129. Power in the Ruins?
Roaring Fire…
Although she was prepared, she hadn’t expected to be plunged into this so-called human “underground organization” so quickly.
Before coming here, Reina had tried to get Calysia to cooperate with her a little… but unexpectedly, she was caught by her by a strange coincidence.
Interestingly, the Pope really treated her as an “ally.” Judging by his posture, he wanted to recruit her into his organization to stir up trouble.
“That person, she didn’t come. Do you need me to pass on a message?”
The fat man rubbed his hands.
“Please do. It’s understandable that she’s not here, after all, circumstances are forcing her,” Paris said. Then, she began to observe Reina with an expression of admiration and faith.
“Oh, right…” the Pope said with a smile. “Welcome to Roaring Fire, Bishop Lei.”
“Welcome, new member. From now on, you are the future Goddess of Light,” White Hammer said with a half-joking smile.
“I have a different opinion. I believe she is the God of Light.”
“Good thing she’s not here. I think you two would start fighting again.”
Short Wind smiled helplessly, as if he always looked haggard.
Paris just sneered:
“Of course, I’m just for humanity. If in the future you are the vermin of humanity, I will definitely not hesitate to cut off your heads.”
“Don’t say such terrible things. What’s that saying, ‘born from the same root, why be so eager to torment each other’!” White Hammer quickly smoothed things over.
“Why didn’t you bring Agnes along?”
“She’s not trustworthy yet,” the Pope said. “She’s too naive, even more naive than Pesa. She’s not one of us.”
“Look at you talking, I’m getting goosebumps.”
“Hehe.” The Pope ignored the chattering White Hammer and also shifted his gaze to Reina.
“Welcome, Bishop Lei. You can think of us as humanity’s last line of defense.”
“Then I’m truly honored,” Reina said half-jokingly.
Suddenly, the man named White Hammer clapped his hands.
“Let’s briefly talk about our achievements first. Otherwise, our Bishop Lei might not trust us enough…”
Saying that, Paris handed Reina a letter containing information.
Reina took it and, opening her eyes completely, looked at the dense data and information on the document.
Then she was a little speechless.
What was recorded on it was probably the current sphere of influence of [Roaring Fire], and what they had achieved so far…
For example, who they had successfully promoted to cleric, how many weapons they had secretly manufactured, how much unexpected funds they had earned without being discovered…
It was like seeing a rat on the side of the road, and the rat started to explain to her how it rummaged through trash cans.
What made Reina even more annoyed was… even if she wasn’t the Goddess of Light but a master of persuasion, it should be these people who relied on her, not her joining them.
She secretly pursed her lips and smiled.
“Forgive me, but I refuse to participate in your coercion.”
Reina smiled gently, her hands clasped together, holy and devout. Paired with her unique cross-shaped eyes, exposed to everyone, she was like the descent of the Goddess of Light herself, showing them a pure smile.
White Hammer and Short Wind looked at each other, speechless at the sight of Reina’s eyes.
“Bishop Lei, my invitation was a bit abrupt and impolite, but we are humanity’s last line of defense… You don’t really believe the God Slaying Society’s one-sided story, do you?”
“You’ve seen it too. If humanity fails, the Dragon King will treat you as a spoil of war. No matter who you are, what awaits you is imprisonment by the dragon race. You should know how amorous a race dragons are. Don’t think that just because you’re pure and resolute, you can resist their temptation.”
Reina laughed, dumbfounded.
Not because the Pope was stating a reality, nor because she was afraid of being exposed.
She felt she was being underestimated.
Who can’t resist Calysia’s temptation?
Don’t tell me you really think I’m Calysia’s spoil of war?
“Ahem…”
White Hammer pretended to cough and analyzed rationally:
“Although I don’t know why the Dragon King is interested in you, whether she wants to treat you as a concubine or covets your power, you have no other choice now!”
Reina glanced at White Hammer, and the latter immediately shut up, clearly more respectful than before.
“Indeed, I wouldn’t have been able to get to this point without your support, Pope,” Reina said with a smile.
“But I have no reason to join Roaring Fire…”
Reina put down the document.
“Everyone, neither your strength nor your sphere of influence is enough to resist the God Slaying Society. And I have no reason to help the weak. Cooperation will only drag me down.”
The Pope’s eyes flickered:
“We will make you humanity’s faith. Even if you are not the Goddess of Light, you will enjoy the supreme power of the Era of Light.”
“At that time, you will be the one standing at the pinnacle of all things. With supreme power, what can’t you get? Why bother with such trivial matters?”
“At least, our goals are the same now, right?” White Hammer added.
“Why should I rely on your power?”
“The ruins, there is residual power of the Goddess of Light inside. We will give that part to you.”
At the very end, the Pope dropped a bombshell.
“The ruins plundered by the orcs?”
She had checked the information on the orcs’ side.
After the beastmen plundered the treasures, the ruins began to move from place to place, appearing and disappearing like ghosts, as if connected to an unknown space.
“Yes,” the Pope nodded:
“Only I know where the power is, and only I have a way to use it.”
“The orcs only took a part of the treasures, at most, the flashy property the Goddess has accumulated until now.”
“We must seize the Goddess’s last legacy before the God Slaying Society occupies the ruins.”
“There are other artifacts. In short, this should be the property of humanity and the Goddess, and the demons are absolutely not allowed to touch it,” Paris’s face was filled with anger.
“But doesn’t the God Slaying Society already know?”
“That’s right, it’s time to change our strategy. We must seize the Goddess’s power under the nose of the God Slaying Society as much as possible,” the Pope said resolutely.
Reina pretended to be deep in thought.
Ironically, the one standing before you is the President of the God Slaying Society, you pitiful humans~
However, she was still very willing to reclaim the God of Light’s power.
Then, she closed her eyes and smiled calmly:
“I agree to cooperate with you.”
“I won’t join Roaring Fire. Before we become companions, we must start by building trust.”
“If, through this opportunity, I recover all my power, then I will consider joining you.”
Directly agreeing to join would seem a bit hypocritical, and besides, as Reina had said, she was now the true leader of humanity.
Just then, White Hammer and Paris nodded respectively, secretly admiring Reina’s composure and decisiveness, as well as her pride as a goddess.
Even the Pope had to re-examine Reina, once again wary of her ambition and mysterious power.
Oooh, I didn’t realize pope didn’t know about Reina being the dragon queen!
