2. Reina Did It
This was the first child of the Goddess of Light and the Dragon King.
The reason Reina had accepted everything was because she knew the child was healthy, and her method of incubation was not wrong. Originally, many dragon eggs would take three or even five years to begin to hatch, but Reina had incubated the egg almost twenty-four hours a day, which, to a certain extent, had sped up the hatching process.
This was also why Reina’s first reaction was that she had done something wrong.
In fact, she had done nothing wrong, and had even exceeded the task.
“What will Celes be like in the future, hehehe…”
Reina finally stopped crying and laughed.
She wrapped herself in the quilt, staring at the gradually hatching dragon egg, as if she were looking forward to Celes’s next move.
It was early in the morning, and seeing that the dragon egg was about to hatch, Calysia had no choice but not to trouble Reina and went to cook. She naturally knew how fanatical Reina would be about the dragon egg.
After eating, Calysia went to the God Slaying Society and then began her work for the day… She worked in the Dragon King’s Palace, and any instructions or reports would be relayed by Azure or Fire. So, time quickly passed until noon.
At noon, Calysia returned to the bedchamber… but found that Reina was still observing the dragon egg in the same posture as in the morning.
Like a kitten waiting in front of a mouse hole, but Reina was even more persistent than a kitten.
“Reina~, the dragon egg will take at least a whole day to hatch. It might still be early,” Calysia kindly reminded her. But she suddenly realized, how could Reina not know this?
“Mmph…”
“Little Celes, be good~”
Reina didn’t seem to hear Calysia’s words, swaying her body and singing, her mind completely immersed in the matter of her daughter hatching.
She wore a nightgown, a light gauze covering her swollen belly, both sexy and cute.
Her tail was wrapped around the bottom of the dragon egg, as if to protect it.
Calysia looked at the tip of the eggshell. The cracks were indeed beginning to extend, and much faster than recorded in the books… Could Reina’s method really be effective?
“Reina, I’ve made you food.”
“What does the dragon egg eat?”
The next second, Reina discovered a flaw in her own words and chuckled awkwardly:
“I’m waiting for her to hatch. What if Celes can’t see me when she hatches? A daughter who doesn’t see her mother won’t feel loved.”
Calysia no longer interfered with Reina.
She brought the food to the bed and fed it directly to Reina.
She fed Reina spoonful by spoonful, and only then did she begin to eat ravenously. But no matter what, she was unwilling to leave the side of the dragon egg. Even if it were the end of the world, she would probably wait until the day Celes successfully hatched.
In the initial stage of hatching, the dragon whelp basically wouldn’t participate in the hatching. And whether it could hatch smoothly, or whether it could hatch ahead of schedule, eighty percent depended on the dragon whelp’s personality. Therefore, in most cases, the mother dragon could even let the dragon whelp stay in the dragon egg for a while longer, which was not a bad thing… In some cases, after all the nutrients in the dragon egg were completely absorbed, the dragon whelp would need to find more nutrients before it would hatch.
After feeding Reina, Calysia sighed and went to the dining room to clear the table.
Reina was a good mother, but she still didn’t believe that the dragon egg could hatch in one day.
She went out to continue her work, attending a banquet of the Four Realms in the north of the God Slaying Society… During this time, it seemed as if it had entered an era of peace. There would always be similar activities, and Calysia also took the opportunity to learn what she needed.
For example, a school.
Reina had wanted to build a school in the central plains last year. The construction had also received the best growth environment, and now, it was almost time to start.
At night.
The first thing Calysia did after returning to the Dragon King’s Palace was to check on Reina, to confirm whether she was still asleep and how the dragon egg was doing. But when she opened the door of the bedchamber, she found that Reina was still staring at the dragon egg with her cute vertical eyes! She had maintained the same gaze all day, without blinking!
And,
Beside the dragon egg, there were several sparkling gems and trinkets, a golden crown, and a pearl necklace, as if she were performing some mysterious ritual. Reina’s tail was still coiled under the dragon egg, radiating warmth.
“Little dragon egg, be good, be good~”
“Eh, Calysia, look! The eggshell has cracked a little more!”
Seeing Calysia, Reina almost showed off, holding up a small piece of eggshell to show her, her eyes filled with hearts.
“What’s wrong with my little vassal?”
“I love Master so much. To be able to give birth to such a cute dragon egg, I’ve actually already thought about it. I’ll definitely raise the little dragon into a giant dragon, hehehe.”
This was probably the so-called maternal instinct, but it felt a little premature. If analyzed with the rational thinking of the Goddess of Light, perhaps it was the expectation of a child, the fruit of love, being able to grow up healthy.
Calysia knew she definitely couldn’t stop Reina. She sat beside Reina and watched the dragon egg with her. When it was time for dinner, it was naturally Calysia who was responsible for cooking and then feeding her. For a moment, Reina also seemed to have become a cute dragon baby.
At night, Calysia had no choice but to watch the dragon egg with Reina.
But she wasn’t as fanatical and persistent, wagging her tail, lying on Reina’s shoulder and occasionally opening her eyes to take a look, and then yawning.
She looked up and saw that it was already 1 AM, and Reina could actually stare at the dragon egg for so long!
“If the dragon egg doesn’t come out, will Reina sleep at night?”
“No.”
Reina said matter-of-factly:
“If Celes finds out I’m slacking off, she’ll be very sad.”
“What a dummy. Ever since you got pregnant…”
“Who said I’m a dummy? I certainly look a little foolish, but this is a mother’s wisdom!”
“Haa, haa…”
Saying that, Calysia had already fallen asleep. Her entire weight was on Reina’s shoulder, and her tail also fell on her thigh, breathing rhythmically.
Seeing this, Reina extinguished the candle, patted Calysia’s hair with one hand, and touched the tailbone on her body with the other.
Another hour passed.
The dragon egg finally began to shake gently… The dragon whelp Celes had decided to break through the eggshell!
Reina gently woke Calysia up, and the two of them stared at the dragon egg on the azure tail without blinking.
“Reina, you really did it…”
“Shh.”
She gave Calysia a gesture.
“Crack, crack…”
This was the sound of dragon claws scratching against the eggshell.
As more and more eggshells broke and fell on the bed, a small opening finally appeared at the top of the dragon egg.
Reina could clearly hear her own heartbeat.
With a silver dragon claw breaking through the shell, came a bell-like sound that was either spoiled or a call.
“Awoo~”
