Chapter 21: Did You Just Kiss Me?

The next day, in the early morning.

The auntie wheeled Lu Nan to the third-floor ward and was about to open the door to tidy up inside.

“Auntie, you can go home and rest. I’ll be fine here.”

The auntie met her determined gaze and nodded.

Lu Nan opened the door.

One window in the ward was open for ventilation, and the breeze occasionally stirred the white curtains, making the potted plants sway gently.

“Were you lying just like this when you had that car accident back then…”

Lu Nan paused, staring at her for a long time until her eyes grew sore.

She slowly wheeled closer to the woman on the bed.

The woman’s pale, bloodless face reflected in her eyes. Lu Nan dipped a cotton swab in water to moisten it, then gently wiped it over her lips.

“Wenwei, are you going to leave me again?” she murmured to herself. “How long will it be this time?”

There was no response. The quiet room was filled only with the hum of the machines.

Lu Nan rested her head on the table, turning to look at her, while her other hand reached for the fruit plate and pulled out an apple.

At some point, the frail woman on the bed opened her eyes in a daze.

Her memory was still frozen at the moment the vehicle burst into flames. Panic and deep-seated fear gripped her until she met Lu Nan’s intense gaze.

In that instant of eye contact, all of Song Wenwei’s fear and unease vanished like smoke.

Lu Nan smiled faintly at her. “Are you hungry?”

Song Wenwei shook her head, staring at her in shock, her eyes full of confusion. “Who are you?”

Lu Nan met her gaze with a sigh, continuing to peel the apple. The peel came off in perfect, continuous curls.

She took a bite of the apple and sighed again.

“You really don’t recognize me?”

Song Wenwei nodded blankly.

“I’m your little wife.” Lu Nan spoke up and stuffed the other half of the apple into Song Wenwei’s mouth.

Song Wenwei took a bite, and the sweet juice burst in her mouth. It was very sweet.

“You’re my lover. We’ve been in love for ten years. A few days ago, we were caught sneaking around by your dad. He got so mad that he sent a massive cannon our way. It hit before we could react, and now here we are—wife and wife, both sent back home.”

Lu Nan thought to herself that eating fruit on an empty stomach wasn’t good, so she handed it back.

She kept making up nonsense. “You got off easy by forgetting everything, leaving me to bear all this hardship alone. Do you know your dad said he was going to kill us both?”

Song Wenwei couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s run for our lives!”

Lu Nan laughed along with her, tossing the apple core precisely into the trash bin.

She had seen from the start that Song Wenwei was playing around, so she played along.

Ding dong.

Lu Nan flipped over her phone. Inside the transparent case was a note—a blue strip of paper with golden ink writing: Safe and smooth sailing.

The four characters pierced her eyes, and Song Wenwei’s breathing quickened.

She pointed at the slightly tattered edge of the paper. Despite six years of wear, it was still intact, only faintly yellowed.

“You’re still wearing it.”

“I never took it off. It got wet in water last year and wrinkled up after drying.” Lu Nan’s gaze was piercing as she said, “I’m very hurt.”

That short sentence instantly unsettled Song Wenwei.

She said she was hurt…

In the past, Lu Nan had never been good at expressing her inner emotions and only knew how to care for others selflessly.

Now, for her to openly say she was hurt made Song Wenwei happy—happy about this change in Lu Nan. At the same time, she greedily wished that Lu Nan would express joy to her instead of sadness. She didn’t want Lu Nan to be unhappy.

Song Wenwei propped herself up and pressed a kiss to her lips.

The breeze brushed past their hair tips, bringing a cool refreshment.

Meeting Lu Nan’s stunned gaze, she said earnestly, “I won’t let you be hurt anymore. Lu Nan won’t be hurt anymore.”

Lu Nan nodded in a daze, her fingertips touching the lips that had just been covered by warmth and then left. It felt like a dream.

What had just happened seemed like a dream. Lu Nan didn’t even dare think about it—like it was real, yet like a fantasy.

“Did you… just kiss me? I think I forgot…”

Song Wenwei chuckled. The dazed Lu Nan was so cute. One more kiss.

She kissed her face again and again.

She said, “That was just now, and this is now too.”

Lu Nan’s face flushed from her cheeks to her neck. She shyly turned her head away.

She was taking the initiative!

Wenwei had proactively kissed her four—no, eight times!

This reaction made even Song Wenwei, who hadn’t thought much of it at first, feel embarrassed.

“Did you… remember?” Lu Nan asked, her face red.

If she hadn’t remembered, how could Wenwei… Lu Nan’s heart raced in panic.

Song Wenwei nodded.

【Little Theater

Lu Nan blushing: Stunned? Got strong-kissed by the wife… Yay, happy! (Inner thought: Think of a way to get the wife to kiss me again.)

Song Wenwei: Cute, one more kiss! Cuddle cuddle!】
