The courtesan wept inwardly. She saw the madwoman point at her again and say, “But it’s fine… cough. This Venerable One… is magnanimous and can forgive you. But… you, Li Jiangying, must promise… that you will never lie to me again. Otherwise… this Venerable One will kill you!”
Hearing this, the courtesan immediately nodded repeatedly, going along with her words: “This slave guarantees she will never lie to you again. She will never dare appear before you again!”
“Tch.” Li Yueying laughed, then suddenly curled her lip disdainfully. “You think that by doing so, This Venerable One will forgive you? Truly naive to the point of absurdity!”
But exactly who was the absurd one here was hard to say.
The courtesan asked sadly, “Then what must I do for you to be willing to forgive this slave?”
Li Yueying fell silent. She grabbed an unopened wine jar, broke the seal, tilted her head back, and drank deeply. She threw the jar aside with a thud, thought for a moment, and said, “Li Jiangying, you haven’t admitted your fault yet. How can This Venerable One possibly forgive you?”
Admit her fault? The courtesan’s eyes lit up and she hurriedly said, “This slave knows she was wrong. She will never dare do it again. Please, Your Magnificence, be merciful and forgive this slave!”
As her words fell, Li Yueying quieted down considerably. She looked at the frighteningly made-up courtesan before her, and a surprisingly gentle expression flickered across her face in a daze. She drew her legs back up again, tilted her head slightly, and chuckled lightly. “Calling yourself ‘this slave’ in front of This Venerable One… what game are you playing now, Li Jiangying? Could it be… you’re trying to seduce This Venerable One?”
This crazy god had an issue with how she addressed herself. The courtesan thought quickly and cleverly changed her wording: “Yes, yes. I, Li Jiangying, am shameless. I wanted to seduce you. It truly is a crime worthy of ten thousand deaths. I, Li Jiangying, know I was wrong. I will never dare do it again. Please, forgive me!”
Li Jiangying: “…”
Li Yueying was finally satisfied. She suddenly raised her hand again and pointed at the courtesan. “Li Jiangying!”
“Aye!”
Li Jiangying’s face darkened. She absolutely could not listen to this drunkard’s ravings any longer. Bending down, she picked up a wine jar, strode over behind Li Yueying, raised it high, and was about to bring it smashing down.
But then she saw Li Yueying crook her finger slightly, lowering her head. Her lips, moistened by wine, gently pursed. Her flushed cheeks and her eyelashes, lowered and trembling faintly, carried a hint of shyness. Her voice suddenly dropped low, trembling like a flower petal shedding a dewdrop in the early morning. “You… you also have to say that you like me. Otherwise, I won’t forgive you.”
Li Jiangying froze, the wine jar held aloft. She slowly lowered it and looked up to meet the courtesan’s astonished gaze.
The courtesan clearly had no idea what this newcomer was up to. But with the crazy god right in front of her, she could only, with great grievance, open her mouth, ready to go along and say I, Li Jiangying, like you.
However, the woman standing behind the madwoman raised a finger to her own lips, signaling for silence.
The courtesan hesitated. Li Yueying was displeased. She raised her hand again, about to wave it, when smack—someone grabbed it.
Li Jiangying held Li Yueying’s wrist and waved her other hand at the courtesan, gesturing for her to get out.
The courtesan glanced at the drunkard. Previously, anyone who tried to interfere with her lunacy had been unceremoniously thrown out. But now, this woman had actually managed to directly grab her wrist.
And on the pretty drunkard’s face, there was a dazed look, but no anger.
Though the courtesan didn’t fully understand, her intuition told her she could leave. So she scrambled up and fled the room as fast as her legs could carry her, even thoughtfully closing the door behind the two of them.
Li Jiangying released Li Yueying’s hand and moved to where the courtesan had just been standing. She kicked the chair aside and stood before Li Yueying. Raising her hand, she removed the mask from her face, revealing her true appearance.
Li Jiangying raised an eyebrow and leaned forward slightly, planting both hands on the tabletop. She looked at Li Yueying, who sat dazedly on the table, slowly blinking, and asked with a grin, “What did you just say?”
Li Yueying blinked sluggishly. The strong liquor made her head swim. This kind of stuff—even an immortal couldn’t resist it. She said slowly, “Li Jiangying… you have to say… you like me.”
Li Jiangying let out a short laugh. “Sorry, I don’t know if Li Jiangying likes you or not.”
Li Yueying froze. Suddenly, she was at a loss for words, not knowing what to do. Her hand rested on the edge of the wine jar, clenching and unclenching, opening and closing, in a picture of utter bewilderment.
Besides the table, the wine, and the passed-out women, there were other things in the room. In the corner stood a full-length silver mirror. From the corner of her eye, Li Jiangying caught a glimpse of her reflection and suddenly understood why she had felt that courtesan looked familiar.
It wasn’t because the makeup on her face resembled the kind she herself had once drawn on Li Yueying. Rather, the courtesan’s brows, eyes, and facial structure unexpectedly bore a slight resemblance to Li Jiangying’s own.
Li Jiangying sighed softly and straightened up. “You don’t need to forgive me either. Let’s go. Let’s go home.”
She turned around, ready to call Li Yueying to leave, when the sound of quiet sobbing came from behind her.
Li Yueying’s eyes were red-rimmed, her mouth pursed in a pitiful expression. “Yingying… are you angry with me?”
Li Jiangying’s heart softened. She turned back to look at the little madwoman and opened her arms. “No. Come here, I’ll carry you.”
The little madwoman wobbled over, stumbling into Li Jiangying’s embrace. Her moist, soft lips brushed against Li Jiangying’s chin, then she buried her face into the crook of her neck, exhaling cold breath.
“Yingying likes you so much.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know.”
“Don’t be mad at me.”
“Fine, fine.” Li Jiangying’s response was rather perfunctory. She felt Li Yueying’s grip on her arm tighten briefly, then loosen, as the woman fell asleep soundly in her arms.
Li Jiangying sighed at the heavens. How could she not be mad at you, you little bastard? The moment you’re sober, you’re calling for my head. Remembering all the messed-up things from yesterday… Dammit! No, the more she thought about it, the angrier she got!
An uncontrollable fire of rage ignited in Li Jiangying’s heart. She flung the soundly sleeping Li Yueying back onto the table and rolled her over.
Gritting her teeth, her face grim and sinister, Li Jiangying hoisted the very chair that had borne the courtesan’s helpless body.
“Li Yueying, I told you… if you’ve got the guts, stay changed forever. Since you changed back… don’t blame me for what’s coming! Hyaaa!”
Crash!
With a leaping attack, she slammed the chair onto the noble rear end of the Moon Shadow Devil Venerable. The chair shattered into pieces.
Li Yueying pouted. In her dreams, she felt a bit of an itch on her bottom and reached back to scratch it.
Li Jiangying stared coldly at the drunkard sleeping soundly and contentedly. In the end, she put her mask back on and picked her up again.
“If only you could stay like this forever,” Li Jiangying murmured, looking down at the woman in her arms. “I don’t know if Li Jiangying likes you. But… I rather do.”
Li Jiangying appeared at the railing, holding Li Yueying, and was met with the reverent stares of everyone present. She walked down the stairs, step by careful step. As she walked, her grip suddenly slipped, and Li Yueying went tumbling down the stairs, bumping and rolling.
“&#%!” Li Jiangying yelped in shock and immediately rushed after her, grabbing hold of her just before she could roll up into a blazing wheel of momentum.
“Oh my god… it’s all her fault! Why is she so damn heavy?!”
Li Jiangying held her lower back and hip with one hand, rubbing her aching arm with the other. She was furious. Just one Li Yueying had managed to make every inch of her body sore.
“Your Highness!” Cui Yu and Li Xiangshui rushed over, their faces pale. “How is the Highness?”
Li Jiangying felt a little guilty. “Nothing, nothing. She’s just drunk.”
Li Xiangshui covertly rolled her eyes at her. “Couldn’t handle it, but still had to show off? Useless!”
Li Jiangying glared back viciously. “You try it if you’re so capable, weakling!”
She had only been cultivating for a short while, and her physical body was still weak and soft. The fact that she’d managed to carry Li Yueying down an entire flight of stairs was already quite an achievement, alright?!
Li Yueying was sprawled on the stairs, her brows tightly furrowed. In a daze, she lifted a hand and touched her own face. She wasn’t sure why, but it somehow felt very sore. But she was too drunk, and soon fell back into a quiet sleep.
Next, the task of transporting Li Yueying fell to Cui Yu. At present, she was the only one capable of this heavy responsibility. When they left, the madam and her people surprisingly didn’t stop them to demand more money.
Feeling quite embarrassed, Li Jiangying apologized profusely to the madam, whose face was stiff and pale. Nestled in the madam’s arms was a tearful beauty who looked somewhat familiar. The way she wept, like a pear blossom bathed in rain, was particularly pitiful.
Her clothes also looked familiar… Wait! Wasn’t this that previous courtesan?!
Li Jiangying gave an awkward laugh and hastily fled.
Cui Yu was carrying Li Yueying on her back as they made their way back. Li Xiangshui flanked them, occasionally reaching out to fiddle with the ends of Li Yueying’s hair or her clothes, and every now and then, seemingly unintentionally, brushing her fingers against her flushed cheeks.
“How’s the feel?” Li Jiangying sidled up beside her, asking in a ghostly whisper.
“Not bad,” Li Xiangshui nodded in satisfaction. “Worthy of the woman This Venerable One has set her sights on.”
“‘Not bad,’ my ass! Get out front and clear the way!” Li Jiangying rapped her on the head with a painful knock.
Li Xiangshui yelped, gritting her teeth. “On what grounds?!”
Li Jiangying: “On the grounds that you’re a pervert… and I’m the master of the pervert.”
Li Xiangshui: “…”
The group rushed back to the Gu Residence, too embarrassed to use the main gate, so they circled around to the back. They were still borrowing someone else’s place, had already caused their host a fair amount of trouble, and figured they should keep a low profile.
After Cui Yu put Li Yueying back in her room, she made an excuse about not daring to offend and promptly slipped away, leaving Li Jiangying and Li Xiangshui to tend to the Moon Shadow Devil Venerable, who was passed out on the bed.
After thinking for a moment, Li Jiangying started ordering Li Xiangshui around, telling her to fetch water, wring out a cloth, and wipe Li Yueying’s face and hands and change her clothes.
Li Xiangshui was in the middle of wringing out a damp cloth when she suddenly realized something was off. She threw the cloth into the basin, her willow-leaf brows arching sharply. “On what grounds do you do nothing, while ordering me to do all this?”
Li Jiangying looked genuinely surprised. “Isn’t she the woman you like? Isn’t taking care of someone you like a very happy thing? As your master, I’m giving this happy task to you. How can you not be grateful, but instead get angry at me?”
Li Xiangshui stood with her hands on her hips and laughed arrogantly. “This Venerable One would never do such menial chores. If I want her, naturally it’s so she can wait on This Venerable One!”
Li Jiangying: “Good point. Back then, you even wanted to take both of us as slaves. Too bad…”
Slam! Li Xiangshui stormed out, slamming the door.
Left with no choice, Li Jiangying had to tend to the drunkard herself. She stripped off Li Yueying’s soiled clothes and used the damp cloth to slowly wipe her body clean. It was a pity she was still too weak; otherwise, she could just cast a Water Tornado spell and give her a full, one-stop magical bath.
There was no denying it, the Moon Shadow Devil Venerable had a rather impressive figure… Li Jiangying’s eyes glazed over. While wiping, she silently chanted Emptiness is form, form is emptiness. After a cursory wipe-down, she dressed her in clean clothes. Li Jiangying tossed the dirty cloth into the basin and got up to leave, but suddenly, someone grabbed her calf.
She looked back. It was Li Yueying, hugging her leg. “Jiangying… don’t go…”
Li Jiangying thought for a moment, then lifted her foot and gave Li Yueying a forceful kick to the face, freeing her calf. With a cold huff, she turned and ducked into Li Xiangshui’s room.
“What are you here for now?”
“To supervise your cultivation.”
Li Xiangshui sneered. “Is that so? Or is it because you’re afraid Yueying will kill you when she wakes up?”
Li Jiangying sat cross-legged. “Why not worry a little more about your own little life, my dear Xiangshui?”
Li Xiangshui: “…”
The next morning.
Li Jiangying woke up early. Passing by the original room, she poked her head in for a look. Her gaze met Li Yueying’s directly. She was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding a mirror, her face full of deep solemnity.
Li Yueying’s eyes darted toward her, her brows knitted tightly, seething with suppressed fury. “Li Jiangying… why, upon waking, does This Venerable One find a footprint on her face?!”
