Chapter 118: Starting to Climb Mountains and Cross Ridges
The group walked for three consecutive hours before they saw the river.
The river was a bit wide, and the water looked very deep. Unless they could fly over, it was definitely impossible to swim across, because Ke Yajun and Zhuang Jiayuan were both landlubbers.
Besides, it was already dark. They could tidy up a bit by the river and think of a way to get across tomorrow. It wouldn’t be too late. At worst, one person could drag another across.
After sitting down, Zhang Can’er closed her eyes and entered the Spirit Field. After the food was ready, she came out. It didn’t take much time. Mainly, Ru Xi had helped her prepare the vegetables. She just had to stir-fry them.
After bringing out the hot food, the stomachs of the other three all rumbled.
Zhang Can’er chuckled softly. “Come and eat.”
The food was still the same things. Although there was no meat, to be able to eat a hot meal at any time in the apocalypse, who else had this kind of treatment? Probably not even the Federation Lord.
“Sister Can! You are our god. We are willing to follow you for a lifetime! Hey! My eggplant!”
“Hurry up and eat. If you talk any more, the food will be gone,” Zhang Can’er said with a laugh.
In the end, several large plates of vegetables were all consumed, and there was not much rice left.
After eating and drinking their fill, the group began to set up their tents. They didn’t have to set them up by hand. Ke Yajun studied it for a while and made a small robot.
She said that this thing could do anything, as long as it was given instructions.
Afterward, she made a few more, improved them a little, and the tents were set up in no time.
There was no need for anyone to keep watch at night. The mechanical bird was on standby the whole time, and there were also small robots guarding the surroundings. Unless someone came over deliberately, it would be very difficult to find them.
After all, there was no fire source, no light at all. To find them, one had to first get past the small robots.
A dreamless night. The group all slept okay.
When they woke up in the morning, Ke Yajun was studying something. She even ate a little of her breakfast and then stopped.
By the time the group had finished their breakfast, Ke Yajun’s research had also produced results.
It was a small boat that moved automatically. After the four of them got on, it didn’t seem crowded.
According to Ke Yajun, if there was enough time, she could build a bigger one, and even one that could fly.
This made her extremely smug.
But she did have the capital to be smug. Except for Wan Feng, who was still relatively normal to her, the other two were showering her with rainbow farts, almost blowing Ke Yajun to the sky.
After a while of fooling around, the boat also docked. The few of them went ashore, watching the small boat gradually shrink, and then become only the size of a palm.
It was about the size of a keychain.
“Tsk tsk tsk, our Yajun is going to be amazing. The Federation will probably be looking for you to cooperate every day in the future,” Zhang Can’er said with a slightly teasing tone.
“Then won’t I have money coming in every day? This way, I’ll have money to show my filial piety to Sister Can.”
“I don’t need your filial piety. I’m rich now. I don’t need your money. But it’s okay for you to make me some small things.”
Ke Yajun always felt that “small things” were not normal things. But her intuition had never been very right, so she thought she might be wrong.
After going ashore, the few of them continued to advance according to the map. The place where they had been teleported was very far from the small military base, equivalent to being on the edge of the entire island.
So they needed to pass through the forest, and then enter the plain area. Only then would they be considered to have truly entered the interior of the island.
After about another half an hour, the few of them came to the bottom of a cliff.
Zhang Can’er looked at the almost ninety-degree mountain, and her heart was still a little scared. Although there were chain hooks, there were no safety measures at all. If one accidentally fell halfway, they would be disabled if not dead.
“Yajun, let’s take some protective measures. I’m afraid I’ll fall.”
Ke Yajun nodded, sat on the ground, and opened the creation panel. Speaking of this panel, it was Ke Yajun who had discovered it by accident. If it weren’t for studying the mechanical bird, she might not have been able to discover it.
Ever since she had this thing, as long as she tapped some code and assembled some parts, she could basically achieve technological freedom.
But the only thing was that she couldn’t make offensive weapons, only defensive things.
She didn’t know if it was because of her level, or if this skill was just like this.
It didn’t take long for Ke Yajun to make a floating balloon.
“Tie this to your body. When it senses that you’re falling, it will slow down your falling speed. Don’t ask me why I didn’t make a floating balloon. The answer is that I’m out of materials.”
“So you need materials?”
Zhang Can’er asked with some strangeness.
“Of course I do. Although I can get most of my materials myself, there are still some materials that I need to collect. Otherwise, I can’t make them.”
Zhang Can’er nodded and didn’t ask much. After all, she didn’t understand, and she wouldn’t understand even if she asked.
But looking at the light and fluttering balloon, Zhang Can’er’s heart was still pounding, but she still had to go up.
The first one to go up was Wan Feng. She could go up first to see the situation above. In addition, her movements were light, so she wouldn’t be discovered if she went up first. She could also scout around and, by the way, bring Ke Yajun’s mechanical bird up.
This bird couldn’t fly for long before it had to land and rest, so it was better to let Wan Feng take it up first, so as not to waste the battery.
The others also followed behind. Each of them had two chain hooks, and they used them in turn, slowly going up.
After Wan Feng went up, she first glanced at the surroundings, then released the mechanical bird to scout. The screen didn’t show anything, but with the habit she had developed over the years, she still cautiously went to look around.
The forest here was relatively sparse compared to the one below, so not many people could hide here. After Wan Feng had finished her investigation, Zhang Can’er and the others also came up.
The balloon was used once. The reason was that Zhang Can’er’s palms were too sweaty, which caused her hand to slip and she fell. Fortunately, the balloon was stable enough and landed her safely.
But Wan Feng didn’t know about this, and Zhang Can’er didn’t plan to say it. But when she came up, she saw the red-rimmed eyes of Wan Feng. As soon as she stood firm, she was hugged into her arms.
“Are you uncomfortable anywhere? Are you injured? Were you scared?”
Wan Feng’s series of questions came one after another, her voice tinged with a sob.
“I’m fine. Isn’t there a balloon? I’m not uncomfortable. I’m not injured. I was scared, but it’s nothing,” Zhang Can’er’s gentle voice carefully answered each question.
“Next time, I’ll walk behind you. When I heard Yajun say you fell, my heart almost stopped.”
“It’s okay. I’m here, aren’t I?”
Wan Feng nuzzled in Zhang Can’er’s embrace, then kissed her on the lips, seeking some comfort.
Zhang Can’er also let her be, holding Wan Feng and gently stroking her back, silently comforting her frightened lover.
Ke Yajun, who was on the side, felt a little sour in her teeth. Then she also threw herself into her lover’s arms and nuzzled like a little puppy.
Zhuang Jiayuan was very doting on her. She would basically satisfy all her requests, unless she really couldn’t. So Ke Yajun was also spoiled by her to the point of being a little ‘lawless’.
