Chapter 20: I Don’t Mind
The group arrived upstairs and fell silent, looking at the main door which had no handle.
Wan Feng glanced at the group. She had certainly expected this situation.
She silently took out a lockpick from her pocket. This was the latest invention of the Starshine Federation, and only assassins of her level had one. After all, for assassins of their level, the missions they carried out were definitely not simple, so it was impossible not to have some equipment.
The lockpick was a small device, the size of a car key. The difference was that there was a screen in the middle, control buttons on both the left and right sides, and a piece of metal at the front, the length of a key.
As Wan Feng inserted it into the keyhole, the entire shape of the inside of the keyhole appeared on the screen, and the metal piece at the front would change into the shape of a key according to the diagram.
The process took no more than ten seconds, and the door was opened.
The group behind her stared with wide eyes. They had basically never seen such a high-tech product.
After entering and closing the door, Xiao Feng and the others couldn’t help but be curious and wanted to see the lockpick in Wan Feng’s hand.
But they were all glared back by Zhang Can’er’s look, each feeling wronged.
Entering the house, they found themselves in a large living room. There was a door in the middle of the living room, which was open. After entering, there were two doors on the left, both of which were open, allowing a clear view of the inside.
The one closer to the living room was a bathroom, and the one next to it was a toilet. On the right were the stairs leading up. Directly opposite the living room entrance was a bedroom, and next to it was another bedroom. This bedroom was close to the stairs leading down.
Wan Feng briefly looked at the layout, then turned and asked, “Where is the garage?”
“I know, just follow me,” Xiao Feng said.
The group followed Xiao Feng down. But just as they reached the bottom, they heard low growls and monster-like panting.
The group’s footsteps paused, and they slowly bent down. Xiao Feng was the first to go, so she voluntarily went down a few steps to investigate the situation. She saw four Mutants standing below, all sniffing at something and heading their way.
Xiao Feng was so scared that she quickly turned back, waving her hands for them to go up quickly.
When they reached the living room, Xiao Feng hurriedly took out a bottle of floral water and frantically sprayed it on everyone.
As she sprayed, she explained, “Those Mutants seem to have smelled us. I just took a glance, and they’re coming this way.”
Hearing what Xiao Feng said, the group was a bit puzzled. They had actually sprayed a lot of floral water before leaving. How could they still smell human?
“I’ll go take a look. You all wait here,” Wan Feng said with a frown.
“Wait, I’ll go. I’ll feel more at ease with you here,” Zhang Can’er said as she took off her backpack.
Wan Feng didn’t argue with her, nodded, said to be careful, and watched her leave the living room.
Zhang Can’er walked down the stairs. At the corner, she squatted down. The Mutants hadn’t come up because Zhang Can’er saw a funny scene.
One Mutant tried to come up, but because its body was too stiff and it couldn’t lift its leg, it fell on the stairs. The others, hearing the sound, also came over, and then they fell one after another.
Zhang Can’er wanted to laugh but didn’t. She didn’t really want to admit that humanity was almost wiped out by such things.
Shaking her head, she threw out a few Fire Chili Seeds. Instantly, flames shot up, but Zhang Can’er didn’t feel any heat wave. Looking at the burning Mutants who still didn’t react, her eyes held an unreadable emotion. How on earth did these stupid things put humanity in its current predicament?
But on second thought, maybe it was because she had skills that she felt these things were stupid. When she first got her skills, she had been besieged by them. She still remembered the feeling of despair at that time. She couldn’t let her guard down. Although these things were stupid, they were still very dangerous to a human who couldn’t even truss a chicken.
Zhang Can’er covered her nose and watched for a while longer. Seeing that it was about done, she turned and went upstairs. Only when she entered the living room did she take her hand away, but the smell here was still very strong.
“I’ve already burned them all. This smell is too foul. Next time, I must burn them outside,” Zhang Can’er said, covering her nose again with the hand she had just taken away.
The group all held strips of cloth torn from their clothes to their noses. Xiao Feng also handed one to Zhang Can’er.
“Let’s go down after the smell has dissipated,” Wan Feng said.
No one had any objections.
Zhang Can’er saw that her backpack was next to Wan Feng. The thought of avoiding her was instantly shattered.
Mustering her courage, she walked to Wan Feng’s side and sat down.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Wan Feng took a sip of water and glanced at Zhang Can’er out of the corner of her eye, seeing her with her head down, lost in thought.
In the end, Zhang Can’er finally mustered enough courage to speak, but her voice was small, as if afraid of being heard.
“Um, about this morning, I’m sorry.”
Wan Feng let out a soft laugh after hearing this and deliberately leaned into Zhang Can’er’s ear to reply, “It’s okay, I don’t mind.”
At first listen, these words seemed harmless, but upon deeper thought, they were quite intriguing. Moreover, Wan Feng had said it right next to her ear, and the hot breath she exhaled was scalding, as if on purpose.
Zhang Can’er’s heart trembled from the scalding heat. She tilted her ear, wanting to escape but also not wanting to leave, feeling very conflicted.
“Oh, then, then you can’t bring this up in the future,” Zhang Can’er said in a low voice. After all, this kind of thing was considered sexual harassment in the Starshine Federation. If Wan Feng wanted to hit her, she would be completely in the right. Before the apocalypse, even if it were reported to the Inspection Team, it would be Zhang Can’er’s own fault.
Wan Feng looked at her bright red ears and smiled. “Mhm, I won’t bring this up.”
After the smell had faded a bit, the group finally went down the stairs. The first floor looked larger than the one above. On the left was the living room, and on the right was a bedroom and a dining room. There was a sliding glass door in the middle of the dining room, which led to the kitchen.
To the left of the kitchen was the garage.
The small door to the garage was not closed. After the group went in, they saw a white SUV.
They also found the car key in the fuse box next to it.
Of course, it was Wan Feng who opened the fuse box.
The main door of the garage was tightly closed. The group was a bit excited. As long as they could get past the Continuous Mountains, they could reach Starshine City.
Using the key to open the main door, they found it was an electric door, and the sound was very small, so they weren’t afraid of attracting Mutants. As for why they didn’t open it from the outside, it was because the garage doors in the Starshine Federation were all from the same company.
The garage doors made by this company couldn’t even be blown open with explosives. One could imagine that it was almost impossible to open them by hand. So, the seven of them tacitly did not suggest opening the garage door from the outside. After all, it was a special product of the Starshine Federation, so the advertising was very aggressive. Almost everyone in Starshine had seen their ads. It was hard not to know.
The group sat excitedly in the car. Just as they were about to start it, they saw a group of people rush in, holding various kinds of knives in their hands. The expressions on their faces were all fierce, and the look in their eyes was like a wolf staring at its prey.
Wan Feng took a quick glance and counted. There were more than twenty people, and they were all men.
This group did not come with good intentions.
