Chapter 42: Kill Me
Zhang Can’er was stunned for a moment, then quickly got up and walked over. It wasn’t far, just a few steps.
She squatted down, looked in Xiao Hao’s direction, and asked, “Xiao Hao, I’m here. What do you want to say?”
But Zhang Can’er didn’t hear a response, only Xiao Hao’s suppressed sobs.
Zhang Can’er became anxious. Xiao Hao was not one to cry. She remembered when Xiao Hao was six years old, he was wrongly accused by his own mother of stealing money and was beaten badly, but the child didn’t shed a single tear.
It was only later, after Zhang Can’er argued for him, that Uncle Jiang dealt with the matter. In the end, it was found that his father had stolen the money to buy wine and cigarettes.
When his mother apologized to him, he just smiled and said it was okay. So this child didn’t like to cry. Even if he suffered a great injustice, he would just endure it.
This was the first time he had cried like this.
So Zhang Can’er was anxious. Her heart couldn’t help but clench. She had always treated Xiao Hao and Xiao Hou like her own younger brothers. She would always think of them when there was something fun or delicious.
“Xiao Hao, tell me, what exactly happened? Let’s solve it together, okay?”
Xiao Hao’s hoarse and unpleasant voice came out, tinged with a sob. “Sister Can’er, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I hid it from everyone. I’m sorry…”
“It’s okay, we won’t blame you. Whatever it is, just say it. We’ll all help you solve it,” Xiao Feng said with a worried frown, her tone slightly rushed.
“It can’t be solved, it can’t be solved. I… I… I was… scratched by a Mutant. My time is up. Soon… soon I’ll become one of those things. So I’m begging you, Sister Can’er, kill me, kill me…”
Xiao Hao’s words stunned everyone. They couldn’t believe it, and they didn’t want to believe it was true.
“Xing Hao, this is not the time for jokes. Can you not mess around at a time like this?” Zhang Can’er’s originally stern voice couldn’t be maintained. The last sentence was basically said with a trembling voice.
How could this be? Xiao Hao won’t die. He won’t become that kind of monster. He won’t. It must be Xiao Hao joking.
“Xiao Hao! There’s a limit to joking. Besides, this joke isn’t funny at all…” Xiao Feng said angrily, tears streaming down her face, but the sob in her voice couldn’t be hidden.
Xiao Hou wiped away a tear and was about to help Xiao Hao up, wanting him to go to sleep and not talk nonsense here.
“Hurry up and go to sleep, hurry up and sleep. Don’t say such things to anger Sister Can’er.”
Xiao Hao pushed his hand away, his voice anxious. “Kill me, quick! I can’t hold on any longer. Kill me quickly! Quick…”
Toward the end, Xiao Hao’s voice had become chaotic, turning into a familiar low growl.
No one was willing to do it, nor were they willing to believe it.
But at this moment, laughter suddenly came from behind them. “Hahaha, you’re finished. You brought an infected person into Starshine City. Let’s see how the City Lord deals with you!”
The man’s slightly sharp voice made the group inexplicably angry. Just as Xiao Hou was about to deal with him, the man shouted, “Guards! Guards! Someone has turned into a Mutant! Come quickly!”
After shouting, they heard movement outside. The man laughed sinisterly, his eyes filled with schadenfreude and the satisfaction of revenge.
Zhang Can’er and the others panicked and quickly tried to cover Xiao Hao with a mat. But Xiao Hao pushed them away and stood up shakily. He could no longer speak. His teeth were also falling out and slowly growing into sharp fangs. He could no longer feel any pain, and even his vision had completely darkened.
Although his voice was a low growl, the group could still clearly hear what he was expressing.
“Kill me… kill me…”
The guards quickly came in. Seeing Xiao Hao surrounded in the middle, they walked over and kicked him.
Zhang Can’er and the others quickly came over to stop them. Xiao Feng had even conjured a fireball, but she was stopped by Zhang Can’er. They were held at gunpoint by the soldiers. The group was all captured and taken out of the small room, while one soldier quickly left the group and ran toward the main city.
Xiao Hao was tied up and dragged to a flat ground outside. With a gunshot, Xiao Hao stopped moving. Blood flowed on the ground, spreading into the distance.
Raindrops began to fall from the sky, growing heavier and heavier, as if to wash away all the bloodstains on the ground.
The downpour came as expected. Xiao Hao’s body was dragged away and put into the incinerator next to it for cremation.
The group stood under the eaves, staring blankly at all this, their eyes all red and swollen.
Except for Wan Feng, everyone was sobbing. Zhang Can’er almost couldn’t stand steadily. Her legs were a bit weak, and she couldn’t stand. Her body swayed, as if she were about to fall at any moment.
Wan Feng wrapped her arms around her waist, giving her silent comfort.
She had no feelings for Xiao Hao. Although they had had some contact along the way, it was not deep. So, for Xiao Hao’s death, apart from a little regret, she had no other emotions.
Seeing Zhang Can’er crying so sadly, her own mood was not much better.
After waiting for about ten minutes, a woman in a white shirt walked over. She was also wearing a white suit jacket, a pair of white suit pants, and a pair of white high heels.
This attire made Wan Feng immediately realize who she was. Anyone who had stayed in Starshine City would know that the city’s lord had a preference for white. Even the houses were predominantly white.
If it weren’t for the fact that the red metal material couldn’t be painted, the city walls would probably be white now.
Shen Fanmeng had a serious face, but her expression was very gentle. She looked at the group and asked, “Who is the captain?”
Zhang Can’er was stunned for a moment. She was helped out by Wan Feng. Her face was still covered in tears, but she didn’t want to wipe them. Although it was impolite, she didn’t have a good impression of the people here, so she didn’t care about being polite or not.
After all, they were all the murderers of Xiao Hao.
Shen Fanmeng looked at Zhang Can’er, then at Wan Feng. After a few moments of thought, she looked at Zhang Can’er again. “You brought that infected person in. Concealing it is punishable by expulsion from the city. But now Starshine City is in need of manpower, especially those with skills.”
Zhang Can’er’s eyes sharpened. She looked at Shen Fanmeng with some wariness. She didn’t know what this person wanted, saying such things as soon as she arrived. She didn’t even know her name.
But her rank seemed to be quite high.
“Don’t be so nervous. I am the City Lord of Starshine City, Shen Fanmeng.” With that, she turned to look at the person behind her. That person quickly handed over a paper file bag.
Shen Fanmeng opened the file bag, took out the documents inside, and then handed them to Zhang Can’er.
“This is the contract. I’ll take all your teammates. They will all be under my command. What do you think?”
Zhang Can’er just glanced at it and put the documents down.
She stared at Shen Fanmeng and asked an unrelated question, “Can I have the ashes of the person who was cremated?”
Shen Fanmeng smiled, her voice very gentle. “No. Everything belonging to an infected person could potentially infect others, so those ashes will be disposed of.”
