Chapter 49: Can’er…
“You’re such a big guy, you can’t even guard a meal?” Zhou Zhong was clearly very angry.
“Where’s Ji Wenqing?” Looking at the other three, who were as quiet as chickens, Uncle Zhou asked sternly.
The three of them looked at each other, none daring to speak.
Zhou Zhong was at a loss with these people. He looked at Wang Yang and said helplessly, “Go, call Ji Wenqing over.”
Hearing this, Wang Yang went out.
Before long, Ji Wenqing was brought over by Wang Yang. He still didn’t know what had happened, but seeing Zhou Zhong’s dark face, he didn’t dare to ask.
Ji Wenqing was reasonably good-looking, just very thin, looking even slimmer than an average girl.
“Did you take extra food today?”
Ji Wenqing didn’t dare to make a sound. He secretly glanced at Zhang Can’er and Wan Feng, and his heart began to pound. So two new people had really come. But how come he hadn’t heard that new people had come to the women’s side?
Just as he was thinking about where the two had come from, Zhou Zhong’s hand slapped him on the head, making him grimace in pain.
“Uncle Zhou…”
“I’m asking you a question. Are you deaf?”
Ji Wenqing pouted, held his head, and said, “I did take two extra boxes of food, but they were snatched away by Yuan Jin and the others. There’s probably nothing left now.”
Hearing the name Yuan Jin, Zhou Zhong clearly paused, his face turning even uglier. But he just sighed.
“I told you to stay away from him, but you just wouldn’t listen. You let him take all the advantages,” Zhou Zhong’s voice was tinged with helplessness.
“Alright, A’Yang, go to the warehouse and get some more vegetables and rice. Make a meal for these two young ladies. They’ve just arrived and don’t know anything. Tell them a few things.”
After nodding, Wang Yang quickly went out.
Ji Wenqing felt that there was no point in staying here. Besides, he still had fields to plant and no time to waste.
“Then, Uncle Zhou, I’ll be leaving?”
Zhou Zhong glanced at him and snorted coldly. “Those two meals are fifty Starshine Coins each. It will be deducted from your personal account.”
Ji Wenqing was so surprised that he looked up, his voice involuntarily rising. “Fifty? Uncle Zhou, are you sure? One meal is at most ten Starshine Coins. Why are you charging me so much?”
“I haven’t even pursued the matter of you secretly taking food that doesn’t belong to you. If it weren’t for your usual diligence, I would have deducted all your Starshine Coins long ago!” Zhou Zhong stared at Ji Wenqing with a serious face, his words tinged with simmering anger.
Ji Wenqing said no more and could only swallow this loss. He didn’t get to eat, and he lost money.
Zhou Zhong waved his hand, telling him to get lost.
Ji Wenqing walked away with his head down. When he reached the door, he turned back to look at Zhang Can’er and Wan Feng. His eyes rolled, and then he showed a smile. This smile was mostly filled with ill intentions.
The two of them had watched a whole show and hadn’t said a word the whole time. But they had also gathered a lot of information. For example, everyone here had an independent account with Starshine Coins in it. And for another, everything borrowed here required Starshine Coins.
Zhang Can’er was a little worried. She and Wan Feng had just arrived and had no money at all. She didn’t know if they were already in debt.
Zhou Zhong turned around, looked at them, and sighed. “You must have heard the conversation just now. The Yuan Qian that Wenqing mentioned is a guy who likes to form cliques. He knows a lot of people in the military camp, so many people are afraid of him and don’t dare to provoke him. Even I am a little wary of him. If you meet him in the future, remember to stay far away.”
Zhang Can’er nodded and smiled. “Okay, thank you, Uncle Zhou.”
After the two had chatted for a while, Wang Yang came in with the things and quickly cooked a meal. There wasn’t much food, just the amount of a regular bento box. For an ability user like Zhang Can’er, it was a bit little.
But something was better than nothing. The two of them took the food and went out. Zhou Zhong didn’t go with them, saying he still had things to do here.
Zhang Can’er carried the food and said slowly, “Uncle Zhou just said that we have money in our accounts. When the account cards are issued, I want to see how much there is. Could it be the money I saved before?”
Wan Feng turned to look at her. The young lady looked even more beautiful under the sunlight. The orange-yellow halo added a natural beauty to her, as if she were a sun god descended to earth.
Involuntarily, Wan Feng looked for a little longer, her eyes becoming incredibly gentle.
Zhang Can’er’s question was not answered, so she turned to look at Wan Feng and then bumped into Wan Feng’s gentle eyes. She immediately stopped, and her heart began to pound wildly.
Wan Feng realized her impoliteness and quickly withdrew her gaze. She moved closer to Zhang Can’er and said with a normal expression, “Why did you stop?”
Zhang Can’er came back to her senses, her expression a bit unnatural. She turned away and pouted. “Nothing. I just didn’t hear your response and wanted to see what you were doing.”
Wan Feng paused, a little annoyed with herself for being attracted by her beauty just now. Why couldn’t she control herself?
“I’m sorry. Can you say it again?” She held Zhang Can’er’s hand and shook it, a hint of coquettishness in it.
Zhang Can’er snorted, shook her hand off, and walked straight ahead.
“Can’er…” As soon as the words came out, she knew she had said the wrong thing.
Usually, she called her Miss Can or Miss Zhang. To suddenly call her like this, she was afraid Zhang Can’er wouldn’t accept it.
She was also too anxious, afraid that Zhang Can’er would be angry. Now, there was another matter of address.
But Zhang Can’er acted as if she hadn’t heard and continued to walk forward. Wan Feng quickly chased after her, opened her mouth, but didn’t know how to explain.
Zhang Can’er had no time to care about her now. That one “Can’er” had made her feel completely numb. She still hadn’t recovered.
Until they reached the small house, neither of them had spoken.
Zhang Can’er put the food on the table, washed her hands, and started eating, not paying any attention to Wan Feng.
She wasn’t angry, but embarrassed. For a moment, she didn’t know how to face this sudden situation of hers. It wasn’t like no one had called her that before, but none of them sounded as good as Wan Feng’s, so good that it made one’s imagination run wild.
And she had to sort out her complicated feelings. Why did she always become unlike herself because of Wan Feng’s actions?
Wan Feng had no appetite at all. She would look at Zhang Can’er from time to time. In the end, she couldn’t stand it anymore, finished her food quickly, and went to wash the dishes.
After Zhang Can’er finished eating, she also simply washed the dishes.
For a moment, the two of them were silent, sitting at the table, looking at each other without a word.
Wan Feng got up and sat down beside her, gently holding one of Zhang Can’er’s hands, her eyes red as she looked at her. “Don’t ignore me, okay?”
Zhang Can’er turned to look at her and sighed. She felt that it would be a bit difficult to sort out her thoughts. Seeing Wan Feng’s wronged expression, her heart ached.
She lifted her hand and rubbed the corners of her eyes, her own eyes full of heartache. “Don’t cry. I’m not angry. It’s my fault. I’m sorry.”
Wan Feng shook her head. “It’s my problem. I shouldn’t have been distracted. I shouldn’t have called you that.”
