Yu Shan itched with hatred. “You little bitch! Betraying the Eldest Miss and now threatening her—you’re tired of living!”
“Hasn’t the Eldest Miss treated you well?”
“You get a huge salary from her every month. You’ve made a few mistakes, and she never blamed you. Last time you broke her favorite plate, she didn’t hold it against you. And you, you ungrateful wolf! Turning against her, helping outsiders bully the Miss!”
Xia Qing immediately felt guilty.
Her face burned.
Yu Shan was right—the salary at the Yang residence was generous. One month there was worth half a year elsewhere.
In the end, Xia Qing clenched her teeth. “I… Even if you pay me more, I won’t be bought off by you! You even abuse your own dad—you’re not human!”
“Fine, then pack your things and get out. Wages deducted,” Yang Zhao said. She’d originally planned to let her off for Hua Man’s sake, but seeing her so stubborn, she decided to oblige.
“On what grounds do you deduct my wages? I’ve worked diligently and seriously.”
Seeing her still unrepentant, Yang Zhao tsked. “The contract states that betrayal results in a seventy-five percent wage deduction.”
Before Xia Qing could respond, she added, “I suggest you take advantage of my good mood and quit while you’re ahead. Don’t make me unhappy later and pursue liability.”
Yu Shan sneered. “Xia Qing, the Eldest Miss’s things aren’t cheap.”
Xia Qing slowly shut her mouth.
Once Xia Qing was taken away, Yu Shan grumbled unhappily, “One after another, all ungrateful wolves.”
She looked at Yang Zhao. “Eldest Miss, these self-righteous types are the worst wolves. You can’t tame them.”
“What are you trying to say?” Yang Zhao raised her eyes to her.
“I…” Yu Shan hesitated, then bowed her head after a long pause. “I’m just worried you’ll get the short end like Madam did.”
“How could that happen?” Yang Zhao smiled. “Shanshan, I won’t follow my mother’s old path.”
Yu Shan probed, “And if it really is… how would you handle it, Miss?”
“Don’t worry. I won’t go soft.” Yang Zhao lowered her gaze, hiding her emotions.
Yu Shan relaxed.
What she feared most was the Eldest Miss repeating Madam’s mistakes—that would be too unworthy.
If Hua Man turned out to be an untamable wolf, even if the Eldest Miss let her go out of softness, she wouldn’t let her off easily.
Even if it angered the Eldest Miss, she’d make Hua Man pay the price.

After crocheting four carrots, Hua Man could finally make one that anyone could recognize at a glance. The stitching looked much neater too, without the obvious seams from before.
Hua Man decided to give the gift away.
This was her first weekend after starting work, and she planned to head to Yang Zhao’s place.
This week, aside from the first two days, she’d been swamped afterward. Ying Tingting was great at socializing—fitting right in with the colleagues—but her work was full of errors. And since they were paired together…
One wins, both win; one loses, both lose.
With Ying Tingting slacking off, Hua Man had to put in extra effort or they’d both get scolded for mistakes.
She always aimed to do her best and could only yield.
But Ying Tingting was the type to push further the more she gave. The more Hua Man retreated, the more overboard Ying Tingting got.
Lately, she’d been spinning like a top. Though the work was all done by her, she’d had to stay late the past two nights to finish.
She had no idea what Yang Zhao was busy with. She’d just messaged that she missed her, but Yang Zhao hadn’t come over.
If Yang Zhao wouldn’t come to her, she could go to Yang Zhao.
With that thought, she quickly got up.
She had clothes at the Yang residence, so she didn’t need to bring anything.
She messaged Xia Qing:
——Xia Qing, is Yang Zhao home?
After waiting a long time with no reply, Hua Man hesitated for a moment before deciding to head over directly.
“Auntie Liu, I’m heading out soon. No need to leave the door unlocked for me tonight.”
“Alright.”
It wasn’t too early or too late, but she didn’t want to trouble Zhu Shu, so she just called a car for herself.
The Yang Family residence was brightly lit.
She had wanted to surprise Yang Zhao, but as soon as she reached the gate, the security guard immediately notified Yang Zhao.
She was welcomed inside and soon saw Yang Zhao emerging from the hall.
“Manman, why didn’t you tell me you were coming? I could’ve sent someone to pick you up.”
With that, Yang Zhao draped her own jacket over Hua Man’s shoulders. “Look at you—your nose is all red from the cold.”
The days had big temperature swings between day and night, prime time for catching a cold.
“I’m fine.” Hua Man shook her head and looked Yang Zhao over carefully. “I didn’t interrupt you, did I?”
“Pfft—”
Hearing that, Yang Zhao burst out laughing.
“Interrupt me? Manman, do you know what they call showing up at my door like this?”
Hua Man pursed her lips. “What?”
“Sheep entering the tiger’s mouth—get it?”
Yang Zhao laughed again as she said it.
She wrapped an arm around Hua Man and buried her face in the crook of her neck, rubbing against it affectionately. “Baby, how are you so thoughtful? I was just thinking about you, and here you are.”
She wished she could stick to Hua Man every single day.
“Everyone’s watching.”
Hua Man lowered her voice, feeling the weight against her but not having the heart to push Yang Zhao away.
Truth be told, she missed Yang Zhao too.
They’d been like conjoined twins before, stuck together every day—Yang Zhao was the first person she saw when she opened her eyes in the morning and the last before closing them at night. Now they were suddenly living apart, and it had been two days since they’d seen each other. Of course she missed her.
“Who cares about them.”
Yang Zhao said dismissively.
She pulled Hua Man back to her room.
Hua Man handed her the finished gift. “For you.”
“A gift?” Yang Zhao said, delighted.
Hearing it was a gift made Hua Man a bit self-conscious. It was a gift, sure, but compared to what Yang Zhao gave her, it felt pretty shabby.
Still, she replied, “Yeah.”
Yang Zhao took it and immediately started unwrapping it.
When she saw it was a crocheted carrot, her expression stiffened slightly.
Glancing at Hua Man with a touch of guilt, she said, “I’ve been pretty busy lately and forgot to learn how to crochet something for you. But don’t worry—I promised you, and I’ll definitely follow through.”
Seeing the misunderstanding, Hua Man quickly explained, “I’m not reminding you about that.”
She picked up the carrot, gave it a gentle squeeze, then pushed it back into Yang Zhao’s hand. “I’ve already gone and learned it myself. You don’t need to learn anymore.”
“You made this?!” Yang Zhao exclaimed in surprise, her gaze filling with delight as she looked at the carrot.
“Yeah.” Hua Man nodded. “It’s not great, but I did my best.”
“Thank you, baby. I love it.”
Yang Zhao lit up with joy and wanted nothing more than to shower Hua Man with kisses.
In fact, that’s exactly what she did.
She pulled Hua Man onto her lap, cradling her as she tilted her face up for their longest kiss in a while.
The timing and location were perfect.
She had already cleared out all the servants from this floor—no one would come disturb them.
“No work tomorrow, so no need to get up early.”
As she spoke, she gripped Hua Man’s waist.
It had only been a few days without holding her, but why did she feel a little thinner?
“Your hand… won’t it get bumped?” Hua Man hesitated. Her biggest worry right now was accidentally hurting Yang Zhao’s hand again during the act, undoing all the progress.
At that, Yang Zhao nipped at Hua Man’s ear. “If you’re good, it won’t get hurt.”
But unexpectedly, Hua Man looked up at her. “You should be the one behaving.”
Their eyes met, and Yang Zhao blinked. “Fine.”
Doing this was pure bliss for her, no matter who took the lead—she enjoyed it all.
She just hadn’t expected handing full control to Hua Man to be such sweet torture.
Unable to resist, she grabbed Hua Man’s arm and leaned up slightly. “Manman, don’t tease.”
How had it been so long without doing it that the Hua Man in bed now seemed like a different person?
Hua Man: “I’m not teasing.”
Seeing her deny it, Yang Zhao bit her cheek, her teeth grazing the soft flesh as she called her out. “Not teasing? You’re going so slow on purpose, dragging it out to torment me.”
She released Hua Man’s face and pressed their foreheads together. “That’s not naughty, huh?”
Hua Man lowered her eyes, not daring to meet her gaze, and asked hoarsely, “Don’t you like it like this?”
Yang Zhao was stumped.
Even as they talked, Hua Man didn’t stop her movements.
Feeling those slow, steady thrusts, Yang Zhao couldn’t quite deny it.
Fine, she admitted it—this had its own unique flavor, but it was way too torturous.
Compared to this, she preferred it rough and intense.
Unfortunately, as a one-handed fighter now, with Hua Man pinning her down, she couldn’t move at all and had to let Hua Man have her way.
In the end, she was left limp and boneless, feeling like she might melt into a puddle. She sighed, “Fine, some people take advantage of my injured hand to bully me on purpose.”
Hua Man froze.
She stared intently at Yang Zhao for a few seconds, unsure if she was truly upset.
Finally, she explained, “You’re injured. It’s not good to do anything too vigorous.”
