Chapter 16
She took a deep breath, her face betraying no emotion, and smiled dismissively. “Why should I forgive you?”
“We…”
Lin Huaijia’s words were cut off before they even left her mouth. Xu Qingtang nonchalantly fiddled with her hair. “Oh, you want to say it’s because we were together for a long time? You didn’t actually take it seriously, did you?”
Lin Huaijia was momentarily speechless.
“I don’t have a habit of going back to my exes,” Xu Qingtang’s gaze swept over her from head to toe, a careless smile playing on her lips. “Besides, after trying it with other little sisters, I’ve discovered that you’re very… average.”
With that, she turned her back on Lin Huaijia and walked away.
It wasn’t until she was out of sight that a hint of gloom appeared on Xu Qingtang’s face.
Although their feelings weren’t that deep, Xu Qingtang had genuinely liked Lin Huaijia. She thought about her own opinion of Su Mengyu’s existence and found it incredibly ironic and ridiculous.
In the evening, Xu Qingtang received a call from Tang Gui, asking her to go to the same bar as last time.
Tang Gui had been busy with work recently, and the two of them rarely got together. Xu Qingtang was feeling down, so they hit it off immediately.
The bar wasn’t crowded tonight. The two of them sat down at the bar. Tang Gui seemed even more sullen tonight. After the drinks arrived, Xu Qingtang swirled her glass and asked, “Work not going well?”
A few days ago, Tang Gui had mentioned that she was participating in a new project, a show that Zhishang was preparing to hold in City C.
Tang Gui shook her head. “It’s alright.”
After two drinks, Xu Qingtang was listening to the resident singer on stage when she heard Tang Gui call out in a low voice. She turned her head and saw Tang Gui hugging her glass, murmuring, “Qingtang, she’s back…”
She?
Xu Qingtang was puzzled for a few seconds, then quickly realized.
Tang Gui had a first love in high school. The two of them had grown up together, and she had been turned gay by her first love. But in their third year of high school, her first love broke up with her and quickly went abroad. Tang Gui had never forgotten her all these years.
Xu Qingtang had never seen what that first love looked like.
But she could guess it was probably the one she had accidentally bumped into last time.
Her gaze shifted to the corner, where a woman in a light gray sweater was sitting. She was holding a glass of wine, her chin propped on her hand, and she was staring straight in their direction.
Xu Qingtang could clearly feel that she wasn’t looking at her.
“That one?” Xu Qingtang turned her head and asked Tang Gui.
Tang Gui followed her line of sight. When she saw the other person’s face clearly, she choked on her drink. After a violent cough, a blush appeared on her face, and she said, “No, she…”
Tang Gui trailed off.
Xu Qingtang had a faint guess.
Sure enough, Tang Gui took another sip of wine and sighed. “Didn’t I ask you last time what to do after a one-night stand? Actually, I… with her… slept together.”
Tang Gui didn’t explain the specifics, just said, “Fortunately, she doesn’t mind, and she has no feelings for me. Otherwise… otherwise, I really don’t know what I would have done.”
Xu Qingtang was surprised. “Doesn’t mind?”
“Yeah.”
Tang Gui remembered that day vividly. When she woke up in the morning and saw a woman lying by the window, she was completely stunned. But the other person had calmly gotten dressed, shot her a flirtatious look, and said, “Don’t worry about it.”
Tang Gui averted her gaze, feeling a little uncomfortable. “She said we could be friends in the future if possible.”
Xu Qingtang didn’t quite know what to say. In fact, she felt that the way the other person was looking at her friend was not innocent at all, completely lacking the “carefree” attitude her friend had described.
As the drinks went down one by one, Xu Qingtang could clearly feel the alcohol kicking in. The world was spinning, and she felt a little cold. As she held onto the edge of the bar, the woman from the corner slowly walked towards them. Tang Gui introduced her as Jiang Wan, the owner of this bar.
“Hello.”
“Hello.”
With a third person joining them, Xu Qingtang didn’t drink as freely. Soon, a customer had lost something and Jiang Wan needed to deal with it. She ordered a drink for each of them and said with a smile, “I’ll be right back.”
Then she gently took Tang Gui’s wrist. “Wait for me.”
After Jiang Wan left, Xu Qingtang asked suspiciously, “She really has no feelings for you?”
“Really,” Tang Gui’s eyes were unfocused, clearly drunk. “She said… she has many little sisters, not just me.”
Xu Qingtang: …
At the mention of this, Tang Gui felt a little like crying, her tone wistful. “Little sisters are good. Little sisters are so good. Why be with a man… She thinks I don’t know, but I know everything! I waited for her for so long, but she’s with…”
Xu Qingtang took a sip of cold liquor, her throat feeling both spicy and cool. She sighed. “Little sisters aren’t necessarily good.”
Lin Huaijia was half a month younger than her, so she could also be considered a little sister. They had known each other and been together for so long, but in the end, the love she received was fake, and she didn’t even get the most basic loyalty.
From beginning to end, it was like a joke.
When Tang Gui learned what had happened at the hospital today, she took out her phone, called Lin Huaijia, and cursed her out. After she had vented her anger, she wrapped her left arm around Xu Qingtang’s shoulder and raised her glass with her right hand. “To hell with all the bitchy women!”
Xu Qingtang clinked glasses with her. “To hell with all the bitchy women.”
Tang Gui: “To hell with all the bitchy women!!!”
Two swaying figures were slumped over the bar, with several empty bottles beside them—this was the scene Jiang Wan saw when she returned. Not only that, but the two of them were also muttering something to themselves. When she got closer, she heard “to hell with the bitchy women” rising and falling like a mantra, in stereo.
Jiang Wan first looked at Tang Gui, then turned to Xu Qingtang and asked, “Qingtang? Xu Qingtang? Can you hear me? Where do you live? I’ll take you home.”
Home?
Go home?
In a daze, Xu Qingtang caught these words. She was bewildered for a few seconds, then remembered that she had moved, to Gu Yizhi’s apartment.
Xu Qingtang tried hard to open her eyes and murmured, “Home… Gu… Gu Yizhi…”
*
Gu Yizhi had just returned home from a social engagement. She glanced at her watch: three minutes past ten.
She took off her jacket, hung it neatly on the coat rack, and as she bent down to change her shoes, her gaze swept over a pair of dark gray slippers in the corner.
These were the ones Xu Qingtang had worn the first time she came over.
She had been dead drunk then, her high heels kicked off in different directions. Gu Yizhi had always disliked messiness, but she had only found her cute.
Her phone rang.
“Jiang Wan?”
“Are you coming tonight?” Jiang Wan’s voice was a little noisy, clearly in a bar.
Gu Yizhi: “No, I have something to do tomorrow.”
Jiang Wan: “Aren’t you going to deal with your own romantic debts?”
Gu Yizhi frowned. “Romantic debts?”
Jiang Wan hummed in agreement, busy steadying the swaying hands of the two people in front of her. “There’s a little sister here who’s drunk and calling your name.”
Gu Yizhi was completely unconcerned. “What does that have to do with me?”
“Are you sure?” Jiang Wan began to doubt if she had misheard. “Tangtang’s friend, you really don’t know her?”
Gu Yizhi: “Tangtang?”
Jiang Wan: “Tang Gui.”
Gu Yizhi: “Not familiar.”
“Not her,” Jiang Wan said. “Xu Qingtang, do you know her?”
“I’ll be there in a bit.”
Jiang Wan: “…”
Twenty minutes later, Ephemeral Bar.
Gu Yizhi saw Xu Qingtang at the bar at a glance. She propped herself up, struggled to her feet, and then staggered towards her. Jiang Wan wanted to support her from behind, but she also had to take care of Tang Gui.
Fortunately, Xu Qingtang swayed all the way but didn’t fall.
Her head was dizzy, as if stuffed with cotton, and the gaps were filled with the deafening music. She noticed Gu Yizhi approaching.
“Why did you drink so much?”
Xu Qingtang didn’t respond to her words. Her gaze slowly moved from Gu Yizhi’s forehead to her lips. The beautifully shaped, moist red lips shone, making one want to kiss them. But what she was thinking about was what Lin Huaijia had said that afternoon.
Is making love that good?
So good that you can cast aside both your face and your morals.
Their gazes slowly met. The dim lighting and environment added a touch of ambiguity. Xu Qingtang’s lips moved, her breath carrying the scent of alcohol.
Gu Yizhi asked, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Xu Qingtang swayed. When Gu Yizhi tried to support her, she was very uncooperative, perfectly embodying the image of a drunkard. When she accidentally twisted her ankle, she even said aggrievedly, “You hurt me…”
“Okay, okay,” Gu Yizhi said helplessly. “I won’t touch you. Don’t move.”
Xu Qingtang finally stopped moving, her gaze still glued to Gu Yizhi. This time, she finally spoke.
Xu Qingtang asked, “What does making love feel like?”
Xu Qingtang asked again, “Can I do it with you once?”

In real life, everyone, please don’t get drunk outside. Usually, there’s no Jiang Wan and no Gu Yizhi. You must protect yourselves!!
