Chapter 51: Overnight
Ye Qizhen felt like she was being held in the palm of a hand.
What others couldn’t see, Wen Yu noticed. It had always been like this. Things were a bit tense with Tang Tang tonight, and she was somewhat unhappy deep down, but being held by Wen Yu in this posture, sweetness obviously prevailed.
Wen Yu rested her chin on Ye Qizhen’s shoulder, looking at her. She could perceive Ye Qizhen’s emotions through the trailing notes of a phone call or a smile that wasn’t quite natural for a second. It seemed incredible, but when you care enough about someone, it’s not hard to do.
Ye Qizhen slowly turned around, facing Wen Yu closely. Looking at this pleasing face, she said contentedly, “Being hugged by my girlfriend, I don’t feel wronged at all.”
Wen Yu squeezed Ye Qizhen’s waist again. Hugging was a great comfort; Ye Qizhen had taught her this. She followed Ye Qizhen’s words: “Then your girlfriend will hug you a little longer.”
Ye Qizhen smiled like a flower, wrapping her arms around Wen Yu too. Wen Yu coaxing her made her want to act coquettish very, very much. If Tang Tang saw her like this, her jaw would definitely drop again. The real her was actually clingy and needed coaxing; she had always been good at pretending.
“Happy is happy, unhappy is unhappy; it doesn’t matter in front of me,” Wen Yu said. “Being a little willful is okay too.”
Keeping a smile all the time was exhausting. She hoped every time Ye Qizhen smiled, it was from genuine happiness.
Ye Qizhen should be happy, because she is Ye Qizhen.
Always told to be sensible, hearing that she could be willful for the first time—was this the happiness of being favored? Ye Qizhen bit her lower lip, looking at Wen Yu, her voice unconsciously becoming sweet and soft, “Can I cling to you as much as I want?”
Wen Yu smiled. “As much as you want.”
Granted the privilege, Ye Qizhen raised her head slightly and pressed closer into Wen Yu’s arms with a beaming smile, perfectly interpreting what “pushing one’s luck” meant.
Wen Yu naturally responded to every request. She hoped Ye Qizhen would cling to her and rely on her more, staying like this forever, forever. She didn’t let Ye Qizhen muddle through, pressing on: “What happened tonight? Weren’t you having dinner with Tang Tang?”
When they talked on the phone in the afternoon, Ye Qizhen was still happy.
Ye Qizhen thought for a moment, her tone relaxed: “I told Sweetie about us being together.” She wanted Wen Yu to know she wasn’t that cowardly and wouldn’t evade anything.
Wen Yu paused slightly, asking, “What was her reaction?”
Ye Qizhen grinned mischievously: “Said I have good taste.”
Wen Yu didn’t speak, but wore an expression of “Do you think I believe that?” She probably guessed most of it; she knew very well what kind of person she was in others’ eyes.
Seeing Wen Yu silent, Ye Qizhen answered seriously: “She was just a little surprised. Understandable.”
If it were just surprise, it wouldn’t be this reaction.
Two seconds later.
“Is she worried about you being with me?” Wen Yu asked slowly. Her expression was quite calm, corners of her mouth holding a smile, but a trace of gloom flashed in her eyes. She used to not care about others’ opinions at all, but now, she cared a little, if it was related to Ye Qizhen.
Ye Qizhen happened to catch that trace of gloom. Hearing Wen Yu say this, she felt nothing but heartache. She stroked Wen Yu’s back gently with her palm, her voice and smile gentle: “I’m at ease, what is she worried about? Anyway, I’m sticking to you.”
Wen Yu took a shallow breath. Yes, as long as Ye Qizhen thinks I’m good, that’s enough. She freed a hand to touch Ye Qizhen’s hair, taking the opportunity to rub Ye Qizhen’s head again.
Ye Qizhen let Wen Yu rub, murmuring: “Teasing a puppy?”
Wen Yu stroked her head again: “Mn, puppy.”
Ye Qizhen was defeated, frowning and pursing her lips into a line.
Wen Yu couldn’t help laughing seeing this.
Ye Qizhen’s brow relaxed. She felt her greatest sense of accomplishment was making Wen Yu laugh. As long as Wen Yu smiled, she was happier than doing anything else.
Smiling foolishly at Wen Yu for a while, Ye Qizhen held her breath and suddenly kissed Wen Yu on the lips. Just felt… should kiss her at this moment.
Soft lips brushed past. Wen Yu lowered her eyes, her smile instantly deepening—a sweetness too fast to react to.
Ye Qizhen exchanged a glance with Wen Yu, full of awkward shyness. Her eyes dodged, as if nothing happened just now, changing the subject: “I smell like barbecue, I’ll go shower first!”
After speaking, she slipped away.
Kiss and run? Wen Yu didn’t expect this either. Still wanting more, she stood in place pinching the space between her brows and smiling, as helpless as could be. Although it was their first relationship, wasn’t someone being a bit too innocent?
Staying overnight at Wen Yu’s place was common before. Being able to find her pajamas in Wen Yu’s closet was proof enough.
Ye Qizhen took the pajamas and towel Wen Yu found for her. In a trance, she had the illusion that they had actually been together for a long time.
The weather forecast was accurate. After a few rumbles of muffled thunder, rain poured down instantly.
Ye Qizhen showered first, wearing a loose T-shirt, sitting on the sofa checking her phone. Not having checked WeChat all night, there were many unread messages. She replied to each one carefully.
The sound of splashing water from the bathroom merged with the sound of rain.
Wen Yu stood under the showerhead rinsing off the foam, pulling a towel to wipe the water droplets off her body.
Faintly hearing the rain still falling outside the window.
She quite disliked rainy days. Although her personality wasn’t very sunny, she still wanted to see the sun more; at least, there would be less haze. But…
She had her own little sun now.
An incredibly warm little sun.
Changed into clothes, Wen Yu looked in the mirror. Her skin, just steamed by the heat, still faintly revealed a pale pink. She pumped body lotion twice, rubbing it carefully on her neck, collarbone, and arms. Somehow thinking of Ye Qizhen running away after kissing, she couldn’t help smiling again.
Past nine o’clock, the sound of rain became smaller.
When Wen Yu came out of the bathroom, Ye Qizhen was still focused on replying to WeChat messages.
Actually, not that focused. After glancing at Wen Yu’s figure, her thoughts suddenly became chaotic…
Figure, really good.
Wen Yu walked towards the sofa. The nightdress showed off her figure quite well, chosen somewhat deliberately. She admitted she wasn’t as “innocent” as Ye Qizhen.
“Finished washing.” Ye Qizhen looked up.
Wen Yu’s gaze lowered slightly, landing on Ye Qizhen’s legs resting on the sofa. The hem of the T-shirt just covered her hot pants. At a glance…
Ye Qizhen wasn’t tall, but her proportions were good. Slender and straight legs, translucently white. Exposed like this, they were indeed beautiful.
“Something up?” Wen Yu saw Ye Qizhen seemed to be reading a document on her phone.
“Discussing the summer practice.” Ye Qizhen put down her phone. “Already finished chatting.”
Wen Yu looked at Ye Qizhen and gave an “Mn.” Sitting down next to Ye Qizhen on the sofa, their knees rubbed gently, and the sides of their legs touched seemingly unintentionally.
Looking at each other like this, neither was focused on the serious conversation. Instead, both were quietly playing “hooligan” with their eyes. It was strange; clearly not the first time seeing each other dressed like this, but now it was just very different, completely different.
“Exam the day after tomorrow, want to review more?” Ye Qizhen pursed her lips and spoke first, continuing the serious conversation. She remembered all of Wen Yu’s schedule—which exam on which day, start time, end time—even clearer than the students in the Fine Arts Department.
Summer vacation was coming soon, and they would be separated in a few days. Meeting tonight was hard to come by. Wen Yu raised an eyebrow and asked, “You came just to supervise my review?”
“I…” Ye Qizhen was speechless. She came over brazenly with an excuse today also thinking that she would go out of town in a few days, and they wouldn’t see each other for a long time.
“Read enough, no need to read anymore,” Wen Yu said.
“Oh,” Ye Qizhen responded.
Wen Yu stopped talking, just staring straight at Ye Qizhen with a faint smile, thinking… What to do if girlfriend is too innocent?
Suddenly the atmosphere quieted down. Seeing Wen Yu silent, Ye Qizhen asked with a smile, “Why are you looking at me?”
“Not allowed?” Wen Yu leaned closer, speaking righteously.
Ye Qizhen’s gaze wandered over Wen Yu’s close face, absent-minded. Staring at each like this was silly. As if her brain short-circuited, she popped out an even sillier sentence on a whim: “Want to see who blinks first?”
What a childish ghost. While thinking it was silly, Wen Yu played along with Ye Qizhen with her actions.
Ye Qizhen concentrated, getting competitive.
In the silent gaze, the air became inexplicably sweet. Dating at twenty might not be that mature yet, sweetness mixed with a bit of childishness, but in eyes and heart, truly only having the other person, giving the purest liking to her.
After a while, no one blinked; really competing.
After a while longer, Wen Yu couldn’t sit still. Breaking the distance directly, she rubbed her nose tip against Ye Qizhen’s. Accompanied by hot breath, the close exchange of breath and gaze was enough to stir up ripples.
Caught off guard, Ye Qizhen’s eyelids fluttered.
Still pressing against Ye Qizhen’s nose tip, Wen Yu whispered with a smile, “You blinked.”
At this time, Ye Qizhen couldn’t care less about blinking or not. Her nose was filled with the scent of liking, ticklish, heart even more ticklish. Seeing Wen Yu like this, she couldn’t help humming in a low voice: “Vixen…”
Wen Yu smiled, unable to resist holding Ye Qizhen’s lips and kissing them, then looking at Ye Qizhen, with slightly heavy breath: “Mn, I am a vixen.”
