Chapter 7: Cousin-in-Law, Don’t Be Like This (7)
Meanwhile, in the Prime Deity Space.
In a world of pure white, golden rays of light occasionally descended like rain while others rebounded into the distance. The vast interplay of rising and falling light resembled a luxurious and grand fireworks display.
Among the countless golden lights, one was responsible for Hua Baihe.
The moment it landed within the space, a gentle female voice spoke: “Welcome back to the Prime Deity Space, 1000286.”
The Relationship Mediation System was a new department developed by the Prime Deity in recent years, produced in the same batch as a series of new systems like the Cannon Fodder Survival System, the Villain’s Rebirth and Revenge System, and the Green Hat System. As such, its serial number was quite high.
It nodded and materialized on the spot as a handsome young man.
He had soft, neat black hair and wore a deep blue suit. As he walked forward, a thin golden thread separated from his temple and flew towards the endless pure white expanse above. “Data error in Tutorial World No. 3928. Log file uploaded. Requesting main system intervention for a ruling.”
The female voice remained unfailingly gentle. “File received. Main system download successful. Please wait.”
He had no choice but to halt his steps towards the Prime Deity’s office and wait from a distance. From time to time, other systems would pass by. An acquaintance paused to ask, “Yo, you’re back so soon? The newcomers that Little Cannon is handling are a handful, and while the one Greeny has is experienced, that mission isn’t even finished yet.”
Not wanting his capabilities to be questioned by his peers, he responded to this sort of concern with a single expression: a smile, without a word.
At the same time.
Where the main system resided, a mechanical voice sounded: “File from 1000286 has been downloaded. Confirmed anomaly in Child of Destiny’s fluctuation data in Tutorial World No. 3928. Requesting scan of said world.”
Nearby, a man was resting with his hand on his forehead, his eyes closed. Hearing this, his expression didn’t change as he moved only his lips. “Approved.”
A moment later, the main system spoke again: “World operation is normal.”
Only then did the man slowly lift his eyelids, muttering to himself, “Tutorial World No. 3928… hmm?”
A vortex of countless swirling data appeared deep in his pupils, spinning ceaselessly. Then, he drew out a soft hum. “What a coincidence—”
“Request data analysis for this world?” the main system asked.
“No need. Tell 1000286 the data is correct. Have it complete the mission as originally planned.”

Back in the real world.
Luo Sheng had just left Hua Baihe’s room when she received a video call request from Chen Wenxian.
The moment she saw his face, Luo Sheng was reminded of Chen Keyin’s defiant, unyielding expression for this man’s sake, and she hung up.
But the person on the other end was persistent, calling again and again until Luo Sheng finally lost her patience and called him back.
“Whatever it is, make it quick. I’m going to rest.”
Her icy voice traveled through the receiver to Chen Wenxian’s ear, making him feel even more aggrieved after having endured an entire evening of his mother’s loving lecture.
“Sheng Sheng, don’t be like this.”
He said, “After you told me last time that you weren’t considering marriage, I haven’t pressured you again. I didn’t bring it up in front of Mom and Dad tonight, and I’ve been trying to schedule our dates around your time. How long are you going to be angry?”
Luo Sheng stood by the study window, staring out at the pitch-black night, and answered with a wooden expression.
“If I recall correctly, what I said last time was: I am not considering marrying you, nor do I intend to continue this relationship.”
“To be honest, I was very surprised to receive your parents’ invitation tonight, but I have already made my intentions clear to Auntie Chen.”
After a pause, she added quickly, “If my phrasing has been too subtle, then I don’t mind translating it for you more directly—Chen Wenxian, I have already broken up with you.”
And it had happened three days ago.
Chen Wenxian expressed his complete confusion. “Why? Haven’t we always been fine? We were about to get married and you’re telling me you want to break up? Sheng Sheng, stop joking.”
His tone dropped on the last sentence, laced with a pleading note.
Luo Sheng took a deep breath. Her patience was limited, and she had no intention of continuing a conversation with someone playing dumb. Just as she was about to hang up, she heard Chen Wenxian say one more thing:
“Are you women always this baffling? You suddenly break up with me, and tonight Mom suddenly tells me to stay away from Keyin. What’s wrong with you all?”
Hearing him mention that name, and the reluctance in his tone about keeping his distance from Chen Keyin, the unholy fire that had just been extinguished in her heart flared up again.
“Baffling? I’ve been with you for so long. Whether I love you or not, don’t you have any idea?”
Without giving Chen Wenxian a chance to pick up the shattered pieces of his dignity, she added in an annoyed tone, “As for Keyin, I also suggest you stay away from her.”
“Because I hate it when other people touch my things—”
“—And my person.”
**
Chen Wenxian experienced the most absurd night of his life.
But whether it was his mother, his cousin, or his former lover, none of them had the time to help him pick up the pieces of his fragile glass heart.
Liu Fang was busy being angry, Hua Baihe was busy uninstalling the delivery app to destroy the evidence, and Luo Sheng…
She had originally planned to sleep in the study for the night, to ignore the stubborn little thing who was defying her.
But whenever she closed her eyes, all she could see was Chen Keyin’s stubborn yet desperate expression. The image tormented her, making it impossible to sleep. She even found herself unconsciously wondering:
She’s never missed a meal in her life. Will her stomach hurt after being empty all night?
The mere thought of Chen Keyin frowning and clutching her stomach in pain sent waves of ache through Luo Sheng’s own heart.
Finally, after sitting in the study with her head in her hands for a long time, surrounded by silence, she slowly made a decision.
By now, fifteen minutes had passed since Hua Baihe had ordered her food delivery.
**
With a click, the bedroom door was unlocked.
Hua Baihe nearly jumped out of her skin. She hastily shoved her phone under the pillow and stiffened her neck, adopting the posture of a stubborn donkey that seemed to say, ‘Go on, starve me to death if you dare.’
The moment Luo Sheng entered, she was greeted by the sight of the other woman with her eyes squeezed shut, like a martyr about to meet a noble end, displaying her final pride.
The scene was a bit jarring. The two of them didn’t have to reach a point of mutual hatred like this.
Luo Sheng walked to the bedside and saw Hua Baihe’s hand still cuffed to the headboard. A faint red mark had already formed on her pale wrist, despite the soft towel cushioning it.
—It was clear how fiercely she had struggled after she’d left.
A dull ache started in Luo Sheng’s left chest again. She sat on the edge of the bed, intending to smooth the hair by Hua Baihe’s ear, but instead felt a palmful of cold sweat. She couldn’t help but ask with concern:
“What’s wrong? Is your stomach upset from hunger?”
Hua Baihe kept her eyes closed, cursing silently in her heart: You barge in without knocking, of course I’m scared!
But Luo Sheng couldn’t hear her internal complaints. Seeing her like this only solidified her earlier decision. She sighed and said, “Keyin, I’ll let you go home. Stop being angry with me, alright?”
Hearing this, Hua Baihe’s eyes flew open. She looked at her in disbelief—
I just ordered delivery and uninstalled the app, without even remembering the restaurant or the driver’s number. Now there’s no way to cancel, and Luo Sheng is kicking me out???
How could such a cruel and heartless woman exist in this world!
Seeing the astonishment in Hua Baihe’s eyes, Luo Sheng knew she didn’t believe her. She took a key from her pocket and raised her hand to unlock Hua Baihe’s wrist.
But she heard her shout, “Wait!”
Luo Sheng stopped as requested, looking down at her in confusion.
Hua Baihe knew she had misspoken and tried to backtrack. Meeting her gaze, even as she showed an expression of mistrust, her voice subconsciously softened. “You’re not tricking me, are you? You won’t just trick me back to your house later and then…”
And then play hard to get before pulling me into another round of moans and groans.
That would be way too embarrassing for me!
Luo Sheng saw her timidity and remembered her former sunny and cheerful self. A sense of guilt, as if she had personally extinguished that light, washed over her. Her words became even gentler.
“I won’t. If you don’t like it, I won’t touch you again, okay?”
Hua Baihe: “…!!!”
How is that okay!
The door to a new world has just been opened, and you’re willing to slam it shut just like that???
We still have so many positions we haven’t tried!
Right now, Hua Baihe felt like a teacher watching a student who was satisfied with a passing grade and had no ambition to improve further.
She listened in despair as Luo Sheng unlocked the restraints on her wrist. With a soft click—
—that was the sound of her sexual bliss bidding her farewell.
Luo Sheng looked like she wanted to kiss her again, but in the end, she resisted the urge. She just tenderly rubbed her wrist and said in a low voice, “I’ll pick you up from work tomorrow.”
She knew how important this job was to Hua Baihe, so she was certain she wouldn’t suddenly quit, even if she had no one to rely on after leaving this city.
Hua Baihe wore an expression of utter desolation.
She was mourning her lost life of bliss.
Just as Luo Sheng was about to say something to comfort her—
Hua Baihe suddenly sat up, pushed her away, and without even bothering to put on her slippers, bolted out of the room as if escaping a den of demons.
I have to stop the delivery guy! He might be starting to climb the wall by now!
Luo Sheng watched her fleeing back, her eyes darkening. She could only say to herself:
It’s fine. We… have… a long… future… ahead of us.
