Chapter 73: The Answer
Shu Yao was once again suffering because of the special ability she possessed.
If she were still just an ordinary person, or if she were like when her abilities had just mutated on the cruise ship, with extremely poor physical fitness and a very bad mental state, she could have easily lost consciousness in these excessive sensory stimulations.
But now it was different—
Her body, which had been trained by the special department and had engaged in various close-range and long-range battles with the [Parasites] she had encountered during countless field missions, was both strong and flexible, and her mental threshold had also been greatly increased.
In short.
She really wanted to faint.
But she was more awake than ever before.
More clearly than any time before, she felt how those tentacles, with their one by one suckers, aroused her shame and passion. On the surface of her skin, not a single inch was without their scent.
The dangerous suckers and the tips of the tentacles even reached the edge of her earlobe, and like a human finger, they bent and stroked the cartilage of her ear. The small suckers explored the soft flesh inside, giving her a fear of being drilled into her head by the cool sensation.
She began to tremble uncontrollably.
Tears unconsciously seeped out, and a very suppressed whimper came from her blocked throat, but she no longer tried to use mental communication to stop the other party.
Lin Ran’s palm touched the tears seeping from the corner of her eye. She didn’t know why she had suddenly become so stubborn, but her original intention was not to make her feel afraid.
When dealing with a tightly closed clam, if one were to use brute force, not only would it be impossible to pry open the clam’s mouth, but it would also cause both the knife and the clam’s hard shell to be damaged.
She sighed and did not let the tentacles go any further, saying, “Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you.”
And just as she had said.
The tentacle that had coiled around her ear, hanging delicately like a thin vine, and brushing against Shu Yao’s earlobe like a small brush or a feather, also did not explore any further, but only lingered on the edge of giving her sensory stimulation.
It was enough to make her heart race out of control.
But it did not make her feel afraid.
…
Shu Yao suddenly remembered the ending of that cruise trip. Her girlfriend had turned into a giant octopus, large enough to break and sink the cruise ship.
In the center of her black eyes were rectangular silver pupils. Although they were the pupils of a cold-blooded animal that could not express much emotion, and had even made her retreat in the nightmare-like illusion.
But in the end.
Until she was lifted into Situ Jin’s helicopter, the tentacles, which were overly terrifying and thick compared to her figure, did not make her feel much pain or discomfort.
And when she had recognized her identity on that island, and had watched her chase and beat the [Styx], the tentacles that had come over intimately, while lifting her up, had actually used their tips as a point of support for her feet, making her almost equivalent to standing in mid-air.
Whether it was her previously disguised ordinary human form, or her original body, which would make anyone who saw it suffer from megalophobia, Shu Yao had indeed never been hurt by her.
And so her tense body gradually relaxed.
She even tried to raise her head to see the other’s appearance clearly at this moment, trying to find a trace of silver in those dark pupils.
And at the same time, she refuted her lie: 【But my jaw is about to be dislocated.】
Lin Ran was very pleased with her focused and serious gaze, and couldn’t help but pull her into her arms again. As the tentacle left, she rubbed her cheek with her fingertips.
She leaned over and licked away the transparent water mark at the corner of her lips.
“I won’t,” Lin Ran coaxed, but couldn’t help but kiss her deeply again, because her girlfriend now didn’t even have the strength to bite her, so her lips and tongue were both hot and soft.
As expected, she wasn’t as stubborn as before.
The consequence of the monster being overjoyed by its girlfriend’s gaze was that its tentacles subconsciously slipped into an even more incredible place.
Shu Yao held onto her shoulders in a fluster, and physiological tears streamed down her face.
It was too much.
She didn’t like this kind of uncontrollable stimulation that was beyond her tolerance. After holding on for less than two seconds, she could only say, 【No.】
“You can,” Lin Ran’s tone was gentle. “It was always okay before, wasn’t it?”
When was it ever okay?
At most, it was the last time on the cruise ship—
Shu Yao’s thoughts came to a halt. She remembered the results of her previous blood test and invisibly knew her answer. She gritted her teeth in some anger, but didn’t insist for long, and instead bit her lip.
Lin Ran used her finger to pry open her teeth, not letting her further ravage her already somewhat red and swollen lips.
Then she suddenly remembered something.
One of her tentacles was forced to submit to her will, and brought over a cup of water from the side. When she saw the cup of water, Shu Yao’s expression changed dramatically.
And Lin Ran, from her provocative words before, vaguely realized the reason why she had invited her to this absurd affair.
The [Monarch Slayer] really didn’t like to think about unimportant things, so in the past, she would only think about things related to food to satisfy herself. And now, there was another girlfriend in her thoughts.
For the people and things she cared about, the monster had an almost keen intuition.
It was like this with Shu Yao on the cruise ship before. When she first started to mutate, she was afraid of becoming a monster, so she stubbornly insisted that it was an illusion, that she was a mental patient. Before she faced the truth, she would indulge herself in such things.
It wasn’t until the options were laid out in front of her that she reluctantly made a choice between the two.
But Lin Ran had only just realized this.
Shu Yao was not only using her to escape the [Lighthouse]’s gaze, but compared to the [Lighthouse], she was more willing to accept being mutated by her influence—
But was this the choice she liked?
It wasn’t.
From her refusal to tell the truth, to her later efforts to hold back from making a sound and her resistance to begging for mercy, Lin Ran understood that she didn’t really want to choose this path either.
Just like, she actually didn’t like her job in the special department either.
…
However, her girlfriend was too stubborn at this moment, almost to the point of being willful, and didn’t seem to be able to listen to any reason. Even when she had first asked “why,” she had been annoyed that she was talking too much.
And so Lin Ran graciously raised her hand and took the cup of water that the tentacle had handed over. As Shu Yao recalled the absurd scene of being surrounded and watched by the [Martyrs], she slowly said:
“Yaoyao seems to like to make a choice between two.”
“Then let’s choose. Should the tentacles remain at their current level, or should you choose this cup of water?”
The monster thoughtfully leaned into her ear and said gently, “It’s okay if you choose the latter. It will be just like last time, and I’ll clean you up.”
Shu Yao shook her head frantically, as if she had seen a ghost.
She didn’t want to choose either.
Whether it was having marks left in the depths of her body that she couldn’t bear, or being in a state of complete loss of control after drinking this cup of water after cup.
【No… I don’t want to!】
As if she were afraid that the sound she made with her mouth was not strong enough, she protested loudly and clearly with her consciousness.
But Lin Ran just raised an eyebrow.
She tapped her finger on the water cup, and after a moment, she nodded happily. “You don’t want to choose? Then I’ll choose for you. How about we try both?”
“You should be able to get the answer you want after this, right?”
The night grew darker.
In a certain top-floor apartment in the Star River community, in the living room covered by curtains, a louder and louder crying sound was heard. At first, it was just sobbing, but later it turned into a completely collapsed cry.
Shu Yao felt as if she were a broken doll.
The cotton stuffing in her stomach was repeatedly hooked out by some instrument, and then pushed back in bit by bit, brought out again, and then pushed back in again. In the end, although the crack was sewn up, the cotton inside had already become broken and soft, and even the place where the cotton stuffing was always pulled out had become empty.
And then this doll kept leaking water.
Her stubborn bones had long since been softened. She clung to her girlfriend’s neck and refused to let go, as if as long as she slipped a little, she would fall into the poisonous hands of those tentacles. She couldn’t think rationally at all, that the reason they were so excessive was because of the command given by the owner she was now holding onto as a life-saving driftwood.
“Have you thought of the answer?”
Lin Ran gently patted her back with her palm, her tone as cold as a bystander’s, as if she were not the other protagonist in this terrible affair.
Shu Yao shook her head vigorously. Finally, she was in the posture of acting spoiled with her girlfriend, rather than bowing down to an enemy from another camp. “I don’t want to… I don’t want any of it… Don’t, I can’t take it. Can you not be like this?”
“Lin Ran, Lin Ran—”
She called out the other’s name again and again, as she had before, trying to arouse the monster’s pity.
Lin Ran smiled a little.
Although she knew that only seventy percent of it was real, and thirty percent was still an act, she was still willing to be deceived by her. She pondered for a moment and replied, “You don’t like either?”
“Then how about we change to a third answer?”
…
For a moment, Shu Yao’s expression was a little blank.
As if she had been scared silly.
She had no idea what the third option could be, which could be compared to these two excessive methods. Her brain had also protectively refused to think.
As if as long as she didn’t think, she wouldn’t have to accept that fact.
Until Lin Ran’s lips kissed her earlobe, held her in her arms, and whispered that sentence in her ear, “Come back to the abyss with me, how about that?”
She didn’t want her beloved to be always forced to wander between choices she didn’t like.
If she didn’t like either choice, then Lin Ran would create a third one for her.
If Shu Yao didn’t want to become a monster, and didn’t want to be controlled by any existence, then she would find a new answer, a path that would allow her to not have to worry about being mutated by her, and not have to become a sacrifice for the [Lighthouse].
Shu Yao didn’t have to be anyone’s sacrifice.
She just had to be her own believer.
