Chapter 10: That Delicate Flower (10)

If Song Qi had known that “pretty plating” was code for “terrible food,” she would’ve stopped Gu Si from bringing her here.

She’d eaten all sorts of things on the battlefield, but… she still couldn’t stomach something this awful in a place like this.

After a few bites, she gave up.

Gu Si glanced at Song Qi, looking a little embarrassed. “Why don’t I pay for this meal?”

“No need. Let’s split it.” Song Qi shook her head.

“Then after lunch, let’s get dessert. And after dessert, milk tea.”

Song Qi nodded.

The dessert shop was crowded. The milk tea shop was even worse.

Song Qi wasn’t used to waiting in line and could feel herself on the verge of losing her temper.

She couldn’t understand why anyone would wait two or three hours for a cup of milk tea.

Gu Si kept an eye on Song Qi’s expression. “If you don’t want to wait, we can get something else.”

“You wanted to try it, and we’ve already been waiting an hour.” Song Qi checked the time. “Let’s stick it out.”

While they waited, people came over to ask for her WeChat or to take pictures with her. Song Qi turned them all down.

It was a strange experience. Usually, no one dared ask her for her contact information.

They shuffled forward little by little. Two and a half hours later, they finally emerged with a cup of milk tea each.

It tasted ordinary. Song Qi couldn’t tell one milk tea from another.

But Gu Si looked so excited that Song Qi took another sip. Somehow, it tasted a little better.

“How much homework have you finished?”

“If I spend all of tomorrow on it, I should be done.”

Gu Si looked at Song Qi in disbelief. “I’ve only done half a worksheet.”

The next moment, she turned toward Song Qi, her voice sweet as honey. “Yangnuan, Yangyang, Nuannuan.”

“Do it yourself.” Song Qi ruffled Gu Si’s hair. “Study hard.”

Gu Si: “…”

“Work hard and get into the same school as me.” Song Qi gave her another friendly smile.

Ahhh!

When they got home, Song Qi started on her homework. By the third day of the holiday, she’d finished all of it.

She’d never been one to put things off.

“Host, are you sure you don’t need to check it over?”

“No.” Song Qi lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling.

She rarely had the time to just lie there anymore.

“Nuannuan, take out the trash for me.”

Song Qi sighed and climbed out of bed. “Got it.”

“And pick up some fruit while you’re out. Get whatever you want.”

“Okay.” Song Qi went downstairs with her hands in her pockets.

The October nights were already getting chilly. Song Qi pulled her clothes tighter and planned to get out and back as quickly as she could.

Then she spotted Gu Si in the distance.

Song Qi stopped.

What an oddly familiar plot.

A few punks came swaying over from the other side of the street. They blocked Gu Si’s way and started pulling at her.

Song Qi frowned and ran over.

At the same time, a group of people came out of an internet café nearby.

“Brother Qin, isn’t that your class monitor?”

Qin Xiao looked at Song Qi and frowned.

“Why’s she in such a hurry?”

The next second, the group started yelling.

“Holy shit!”

They watched as Song Qi yanked Gu Si free from the punks, then drove a beautiful flying kick into one of them, sending him sprawling.

Song Qi moved quickly and cleanly. She took on five of them without the slightest trouble.

Qin Xiao remembered how she’d asked him a few days earlier, “Want to fight me?”

What had he said then?

I don’t hit girls.

Now that he thought about it, he probably couldn’t beat her.

The system groaned. This is supposed to be the male lead’s scene.

Gu Si trembled as she looked at Song Qi. “Yangnuan…”

“Are you okay?” Song Qi glanced at the men on the ground, rolled her wrist, and looked at Gu Si.

The punks glared at Song Qi, then turned and ran.

Gu Si shook her head and sniffled. “That scared me to death. Good thing you came along. You’re amazing, Yangnuan.”

“Why were you out so late?”

“Weren’t you out, too?” Gu Si muttered. “I only came out to buy a bottle of soy sauce.”

Song Qi frowned. “Come on. I need to buy fruit anyway.”

“Okay.” Gu Si smiled and nodded.

Song Qi glanced at Qin Xiao, who was standing a little way off. He instinctively took a step back.

Yep. This woman really was a demon.

“Tell your parents what happened tonight. Don’t come out this late again.”

“Okay.” Gu Si looked sideways at Song Qi.

They each bought what they needed. Song Qi walked Gu Si home, then went back to her own place.

“Host, why are you so nice to the villainess?”

“Guess.”

The system: “…”

The National Day holiday was seven days long. It seemed like a lot, but it went by fast—and so did the weight gain. When Song Qi went back to school, she’d put on three pounds.

At school, Song Qi and Qin Xiao settled into a mutual cold war. Neither of them paid the other any attention.

Qin Xiao kept glancing at Song Qi.

“If you have something to say, say it. Don’t worry, I won’t hit you for no reason.” Song Qi flipped through her book.

Qin Xiao: Damn…

She’s way too arrogant.

“Have you trained before?”

“No.” Song Qi glanced at Qin Xiao and smiled. “What, want me to teach you?”

Qin Xiao forced a smile. “You’re getting ahead of yourself.”

“I heard you were pretty good at fighting. When are we going to test that?”

“Never.”

Song Qi smiled. “So what, exactly, are you good at?”

Qin Xiao scowled. “What do you want from me? Why do you keep picking at me? What did I ever do to you?”

“I can’t stand people who waste their lives. It’s a shame the technology isn’t advanced enough yet. Otherwise, I’d transfer your lifespan to me, so I could live a few more years while you spent a few more lying down.” Song Qi sounded perfectly sincere.

“I swear, you’re just looking for a fight.”

“You could at least give me fewer openings to take shots at you.” Song Qi tapped the desk. “But that takes self-respect, and you don’t seem to have any.”

Qin Xiao took a deep breath. “I don’t want to argue with you.”

“We’re not arguing. I’m just making fun of you.” Song Qi smiled at him, bright and cheerful.

“Let’s go ask the teacher to move us to different seats.” Qin Xiao ground his teeth.

“Sure. Go ahead. I’ve been waiting for ages.” Song Qi leaned back against the desk behind her.

After Song Qi was gravely injured and fell into a coma, a plot-driven system forcibly bound itself to her. In every story, she was the delicate white-flower heroine.

Once she completed all the worlds, she could wake up and return to reality.

As the Alliance’s deviless and a killing machine on the battlefield, Song Qi had only one response: “Heh.”

~~~
Every world had a villainess who was part white lotus, part green tea.
She would blithely court disaster, never realizing what she was doing.
Song Qi watched her and smiled in silence.
“If you ‘hate’ me so much, why not stay by my side forever?”
[Host, please don’t derail the plot! Don’t lay a hand on the villainess!]
~~~

Villainess X had been feeling a little on edge lately. The heroine seemed off.

She’d invited her out to dinner and a movie, and kept smiling at her with such tender warmth.

At first, Villainess X thought the heroine had lost her mind. Then she realized the other girl was into women!

Why was the heroine of a straight romance into girls?!

~~~
“My world is nothing but darkness. You’re the one glimmer of light I can’t bear to let go.”
