Chapter 19: So, I Killed Him for Bai
Creak…
The warehouse door opened, revealing a small figure in a lolita dress.
“Bai… seems to have met all of you…”
The girl stood at the entrance, her long, curly purple hair partially obscuring her face, revealing only pale skin and a delicate frame.
Her bangs swayed slightly as she tilted her head, her large, clear eyes filled with curiosity.
To an outsider, it would have been a charming sight.
But Sugg and his men saw something different.
“B-Boss, it’s that little girl from earlier. Why is she here? I didn’t notice before, but she’s actually quite pretty…”
“And she’s wearing a maid uniform! Does she know I have a thing for those? Much prettier than Boss…”
“Ugh, that look of disgust…”
Sugg clutched his chest, finally able to breathe as his heart started beating again.
“No…” he said, his chest heaving as he looked at the little girl. “It’s not her… something’s not right…”
The dark-gold pupils in his mind faded, replaced by a different image.
He saw the little girl’s eyes shift, becoming terrifying dark-gold vertical slits, a crushing pressure emanating from her gaze, stealing his breath.
If this was what he saw, then what his men had seen… must have been the images that had haunted their minds.
“I can sense it. You all carry Bai’s mark. She must have met you!” The girl’s face lit up with excitement. “Where is she? Tell me! Where’s Bai?”
“Bai? Mark?”
Sugg remembered those indifferent eyes. “So her name is Bai…”
As for the mark, that must be how she had tracked them, some kind of undetectable tracking mark that affected their minds, even seasoned mercenaries like them.
But now that he knew her purpose, it would be easier to deal with her.
Sugg bit his tongue, forcing himself to focus, avoiding the girl’s gaze.
“Don’t look at her!” he barked.
Although slightly entranced, his men, years of experience fighting alongside Sugg, reacted instinctively to his command, averting their gazes.
Only then did they realize their lapse in judgment, a cold sweat breaking out.
If the girl had attacked just then, none of them, except Sugg, who had been wary from the start, would have been able to resist.
She was terrifying…
The girl, seemingly oblivious to their reaction, continued to look at them expectantly.
“Big brothers, can you tell Ara where Bai is?”
“Ara has been looking for her everywhere…”
Her voice, slightly pleading, tugged at their heartstrings, some of them even feeling a pang of sympathy, one of them even tearing up.
Then, the girl noticed the photo on the wall, her face tilting in confusion.
“Huh… you know him?” she asked, pointing at a figure standing beside Sugg in the photo.
Frick.
“Yes… wait, you’ve seen him?” Sugg asked, startled, forgetting his earlier warning, stepping closer to the girl.
The girl nodded seriously, her small face solemn.
“He’s a bad person. Bai hates him.”
“He is a bad person, and Bai did hate him… wait, where did you see him?” Sugg asked, suddenly realizing the implications.
“Outside,” the girl replied, then frowned, looking at Sugg.
“Bai… seems to dislike you too.”
“But… not very much.”
“Dislike me? I don’t care what she thinks… little girl, do you know where this man went?” Sugg asked, pointing at Frick in the photo.
The girl looked away. “He’s dead.”
“Dead? How…?” Sugg’s heart sank. He had just assured his men that Frick wouldn’t die.
Frick knew all the knights above Seventh-Order and wouldn’t provoke them, and those below Seventh-Order couldn’t defeat him.
“Because Bai hates him. Bai thinks he’s disgusting. He reminds her of a… Chimera monster. It makes her sick,” the girl said seriously, her voice still childishly sweet.
“So, I killed him for Bai.”
