Chapter 7: Forever and Always, Eternally…
A clear, sunny day. The gentle sunlight, the birds soaring through the sky… a peaceful, serene scene.
Then… a bird dropping fell, landing squarely on the head of a skinny mercenary with a pointed chin.
He felt a sudden coolness, reaching up to touch his head, his sensitive nose immediately assaulted by the stench.
“Damn you, bird!” He looked up angrily, but the birds were already gone.
“Just my luck!”
Frustrated, he kicked a nearby stone.
His toe struck a hard edge, and he yelped in pain, his toe throbbing.
“Ow! Ow! Ow! Damn it! This day is cursed!” he cursed, unclear whether he was cursing the birds or the stone.
This was the skinny mercenary from the attempted robbery, the one who had tried to lay his hands on Bai, only to be stopped by his Boss, Sugg.
But for some reason, after their humiliating retreat from Erlya, he couldn’t shake the image of the small girl from his mind.
The more he thought about it, the more agitated he became. He had separated from Sugg and the others, intending to head to the capital to… relieve some tension.
However, instead of relieving tension, he had acquired a bird dropping on his head.
“Such a smooth little girl…” he sighed, looking up at the sky.
With this mess on his head, he couldn’t enter the capital.
But as he lamented his misfortune, a familiar, alluring fragrance drifted towards him, jolting him awake.
“A… woman!”
He looked around frantically, finally spotting a small figure walking slowly in the distance.
From afar, she resembled the girl from the carriage.
“Looks like another smooth little lolita…” He chuckled darkly, approaching her.
As he drew closer, he realized that although she was similar in height and age to the girl from earlier, she wasn’t the same person.
The earlier girl had short black hair; this one had long, wavy, light purple hair that reached her waist.
And instead of a black dress, she wore a classic lolita-style outfit.
Even from behind, he had a feeling this little girl was even more… desirable.
But what was she saying?
He realized she was murmuring something, her voice barely audible, like a child learning to speak.
“Bai… Bai… Bai…”
After listening for a while, he could only make out the word “Bai.”
Well, there was no one else around. He lost his patience, stepping in front of the purple-haired girl.
“Little sister, why are you out here all alone? It’s dangerous. Uncle will take you somewhere nice to eat…” he said with a leering smile, his fingers twitching.
Perhaps his luck wasn’t so bad after all…
The girl stopped, looking up at him slowly.
He finally heard her words clearly, and saw her face.
“Where… is… Bai…?”
His lecherous grin vanished, replaced by a look of bewildered fascination. “So beautiful…”
Although she looked like a seven or eight-year-old girl, her face held an allure beyond her years, a captivating beauty that burned itself into his mind.
He couldn’t even find the words to describe it, lost in a trance-like state.
Her beauty consumed him, leaving no room for any other thought.
“Little sister, let Uncle give you a checkup…”
He reached out, his hands shaking as he moved towards her.
The girl didn’t react, just stared at him, until, just as he was about to touch her, she spoke clearly,
“Have… you… seen… Bai?”
“Bai?” The mercenary paused, his hands hovering in the air, then nodded eagerly. “Yes, yes! I know Bai. We’re good friends…”
“Do… you… know… where… she… is?” The girl’s unwavering gaze was unsettling.
But the mercenary, still entranced, didn’t notice, only finding her even more beautiful.
“Yes, yes, I’ll take you to her later,” he said, reaching for her again, almost lunging. “But first, let’s have some fun—”
“…” His voice cut off abruptly.
Frozen mid-motion, his expression locked in a lecherous grin, but his mind was still racing. He could feel himself trapped, unable to move.
“…What’s happening?”
He tried to speak, to scream, but no sound came out.
Fear, cold and sharp, pierced through his lust-induced haze.
Something was wrong, terribly wrong, with this alluring little girl.
“You… are… lying.”
The girl scrutinized him, her gaze piercing, as if seeing through him.
Just moments ago, he would have found that gaze pleasurable, but now, free from his trance, it felt like torture.
“Bai… has… seen… you.”
“Bai… hates… you.”
“Bai… thinks… you… are… disgusting.”
“Bai… wants… to… kill… you.”
Her words, now clearer, more fluent, were like hammer blows to his heart.
“Hates? Disgusting? Wait, are you talking about… that Bai…?” He suddenly remembered the girl from the carriage, his eyes widening in horror.
Whether from fear or something else, he finally managed to croak,
“How do you know… what Bai thinks…?”
“Because… Bai… and… I… are… one. We… will… always… be… together… forever… and… always…”
The girl smiled suddenly, the earlier melancholic aura vanishing, replaced by something far more chilling.
She looked down at his chest, her sweet, childish voice laced with a chilling undertone.
“Bai… didn’t… kill… you.”
“Now… I… will.”
The mercenary watched helplessly as she raised a hand, psychic energy converging on his heart, a terrifying pressure building.
Thump.
No warning, no sound.
Cracks appeared on his frozen chest, then it shattered, blood and gore splattering everywhere.
But none of it touched the girl.
“Bai… where… are… you…?” she murmured, sensing a faint connection deep within her bloodline, walking towards the capital.
As if nothing had happened, leaving behind only a mangled corpse.
