Chapter 127: [Melody]—Shaya’s Advent
“Prophecy, another prophecy! You’re all the same!” Queen Arachne shrieked, her face contorted in a mask of rage. “I don’t believe in fate! You’re the ones who are going to die!”
After all these years of planning, she wasn’t about to be defeated by a weak little fox.
A crimson Blood Spider mark appeared in the sky, a beam of blood-red light descending upon her.
She bathed in the light, her spider body withering, cracking.
“The same forbidden secret technique as Diana,” Bai thought, her eyes narrowed. She could now clearly sense the source of their power.
“A secret technique, built on the foundation of bloodline regression…”
This time, the Queen wasn’t just absorbing a fraction of her kin’s power.
She needed more, much more. She was draining the life force of all the sacrificed beastkin, to fuel her own transformation.
In the Wild God Altar, the captive Blood Spider royals, and even the commoners, cried out in agony.
Their life force was being drained, their blood boiling, their bodies withering, until they were nothing but a pile of bones.
The Queen, however, felt no remorse.
They were just… lesser beings. As long as a few remained, the clan would survive.
To maximize her power in the shortest amount of time, she wasn’t evolving her bloodline, like Diana, but reshaping her body.
The grotesque spider body shattered, revealing a smooth, pale torso.
The new Queen Arachne landed gracefully, her once-gentle face now tinged with a sinister allure.
This was the Queen Arachne of ancient times, the one who had single-handedly fought against three powerful beings. Her previous half-human, half-spider form had been a desperate measure, a fusion with the Wild God’s bloodline to survive.
And even then, she had had to periodically consume one of her own children to prevent the Wild God’s bloodline from completely overwhelming her own.
A cruel, vicious cycle. Every eldest princess was destined to be devoured.
Their power, their prestige, was just a way to fatten them up, to prolong the Queen’s own life.
And the other children, oblivious to this, had vied for the position, a tragic, pointless struggle.
Facing the new Queen Arachne, Bai and Eleanor were on high alert.
Her fated demise was inevitable, but there were countless paths to that end.
And if they weren’t careful, Eleanor would be joining her mother.
Bai knew she was still the same. If she died, she would be reborn.
But she didn’t want to go through that again.
Every time she was reborn, she was one step closer to her final destiny.
“At least, before I face my fate, I have to find Ara!”
She raised her blood-red sword, the Vampire bloodline now fully integrated with her Dream Demon body.
Although this weakened her control over her dreams, it greatly enhanced her direct combat abilities.
“The gap in our strength is now so great that your pathetic little dreams are useless, little fox,” the Queen said, her head held high, a web of white silk swirling around her, forming a beautiful, yet deadly, gown.
The battlefield was now awash in a sea of crimson, and the Wild God, its battle with the forest and the Knights now over, roared, its power surging. The Queen wanted to end this quickly.
She rode the tide of blood, a blur of motion, appearing before Bai, her attack unavoidable.
Even if Bai escaped into a dream, the Queen’s attack, fueled by her own life force, would follow, piercing through the dream, striking at her true form.
At this distance, even Green Lolita couldn’t save her. Her shield of wood and vines hadn’t even fully formed before the Queen’s attack was upon her.
But even in this desperate situation, Bai remained calm, her gaze shifting to the side, a flicker of something in her eyes as a familiar figure appeared.
“Die, little fox!” the Queen sneered, a triumphant smile on her face. “Now, even if Queen Shaya herself were here, I could still fight her!”
“Is that so?”
A cold, arrogant voice echoed from behind her, and the force of her attack was suddenly… gone. Her blow, which should have been fatal, was now a gentle tap.
“Who’s there?!” the Queen cried out, flashing several dozen meters away, a look of shock on her face.
“Weren’t you the one who summoned me?”
Queen Shaya hovered in the air, her arms crossed, a mocking smile on her lips.
“It’s you! Queen Shaya!” the Queen shrieked, and the Wild God, its battle with the forest forgotten, turned to face her.
“Has the Abyssal Demon Realm broken its seal? Is this a full-scale invasion?” she asked, a flicker of fear in her eyes.
She could fight Shaya, but… for how long?
“Relax. You and your little toy are not worthy of my personal attention,” Shaya said with disdain. She was proud.
A being who used her own children as fuel… Shaya despised her.
Even speaking to her was distasteful.
And besides, she couldn’t act now. Her power was too great. A single move could alter the course of the future.
“Long time no see, Bai,” she said, looking down at her, her gaze softening slightly.
“You remember?” Bai asked, her voice low.
“No,” Shaya said. “If I remembered you, I wouldn’t be here.”
A being like her, just remembering Bai’s true identity, had caused a massive fluctuation in the seal.
If she regained her memories of Bai, the Abyssal Lord might awaken.
And then, both Solor and the Abyss would be plunged into a crisis even greater than before.
