Green Lolita looked at Bai, a faint smile on her face. “It’s strange, to hear you call me ‘senior’…”
“…Was it really me you saw, all those years ago?” Bai asked, her voice low.
Green Lolita shook her head. “I don’t know. Perhaps it was, perhaps it wasn’t.”
Her consciousness was fading, her voice a whisper.
Eleanor was unharmed because Green Lolita had taken the blow for her.
She had already been burning through her own life force, and now, with this final, heavy blow, she was at her end.
Bai knew there was nothing she could do.
She had died in ancient times, her consciousness a lingering ember, hidden in Eleanor’s soul, a stowaway through time.
And now, after a brief, brilliant flash of light, she was fading away.
“Is there anything I can do for you?” Bai asked, her voice soft, her emotions a whirlwind. But the battle outside was still raging, and she couldn’t let her feelings interfere.
They were speaking in the soul vision, where a single moment in the real world could stretch into an eternity.
“I hope…” Green Lolita smiled. “That Eleanor forgets you.”
Bai was silent for a moment. “I understand.”
“You don’t ask why?” Green Lolita blinked, a hint of Eleanor’s playful nature in her eyes.
In ancient times, before the great calamity, before she had shouldered the fate of the Fairy race, when she had first met the little fox, she had been just as… cheerful.
Eleanor was her daughter, her heir, a reflection of her own strengths and weaknesses.
The Eleanor of today was the her of yesterday, a carefree spirit.
“Because I am a disaster. It’s better for her to forget me,” Bai said, her voice low.
“You’re still the same, little fox… nothing has changed…”
Green Lolita closed her eyes, and in her final moments, she saw a vision of a nine-tailed figure, disappearing into the forest.
All traces of Green Lolita were now gone, her true name erased from history.
But in that moment, she was finally at peace.
Far away, at the Wild God Altar, Nimora knelt, a silent tribute to her old rival, her lifelong friend.
“Farewell.”
Tears of blood streamed down her face, splashing onto the ground.
And around her, the bodies of the fallen beastkin soldiers lay in neat rows, their blood flowing like a river.
The Sharp Assault Knight unit had met no resistance. Nimora had already cleared the way.
And in the Wild God Altar, Eleanor’s aura weakened, her power dropping from high-level Calamity Class to high-level Destruction Class, the forest of vines withering away.
“M-mother?”
She felt something leave her, a part of her soul now gone, and she looked down at the bracelet on her wrist, its green light now faded.
“She’s gone,” Bai said, patting her shoulder, then, her blood-red sword in hand, she walked past her, towards Queen Arachne.
“Gone…”
Eleanor understood. She clutched the bracelet, a look of bewilderment on her face.
A love she had never known, a connection she had just begun to feel, now gone, like a dream…
“Leave this place. It’s not safe for you here,” Isabelle’s voice came from behind her.
Eleanor was now too weak. A single stray blow from the battle could kill her.
It wasn’t that Isabelle cared for her. But if she died, it would be difficult to explain to Bai.
And besides, though she would never admit it, she had been touched by the bond between Eleanor and Green Lolita, a love that had transcended time and death.
Even demons could feel, could cry, could grieve.
Queen Arachne’s attention was now focused on Bai. She didn’t notice Isabelle or Eleanor.
Isabelle took Eleanor’s hand, and Eleanor, dazed, followed her into the Dark Sky, and they fled, towards the regrouping Sharp Assault Knight unit.
“Such a sweet scent. You must taste delicious, little fo… no, perhaps I should call you—Bai, is that right?”
The Queen crouched down, a triumphant smile on her face.
The attacking Sharp Assault Knight unit had been repelled, and Green Lolita, to protect Eleanor, had taken a direct hit from the Queen.
And with all the bloodlust in the Wild God Altar now consumed, Isabelle had lost her last advantage.
Now, only Bai remained.
She looked up at the Queen, her gaze as calm as ever.
“That look, so annoying. I want to gouge your eyes out…” the Queen said, her spider leg hovering over Bai’s head, aiming for her eyes.
But Bai didn’t flinch.
“This has been… a long journey,” she said, her voice a soft, melodious chant.
The blood-red sword vanished, and her tails and hair faded from crimson to pink.
Her scarlet eyes, fixed on the Queen, also turned pink, and the world around them began to shift.
“And at the end of the journey, is the end of fate.”
She saw it.
In Green Lolita’s final moments, she had seen a vision of a figure in the forest, and Bai, in her soul vision, had seen it too.
And she had recognized it.
Green Lolita hadn’t known if the little fox she had met in the past was Bai.
But Bai knew. It was her, at the end of her journey, a little fox lost in a dream.
Far away, in the Magnificent Illusion, Zi, lying on a patch of grass, opened her eyes, her gaze fixed on the Wild God Altar.
“The little one… has awakened that ability. Only ‘Pink,’ who was on my level, could do that…”
“No, wait, this little one’s bloodline… it comes from ‘Pink,’ doesn’t it?”
Her expression turned serious, then sad.
“After all these years, even with the Promised Land destroyed, even with the Dream and Illusion Foxes extinct… you never gave up, did you?”
