Volume 10: Pro and Con
Chapter 28: An Baili the Pimp
When Lu Li woke up, he was met with a pair of watery eyes. Chen Jianing let out a cry of surprise and sat up from the edge of the bed. “Ah… you-you’re awake. I was just about to call you, call you for breakfast…” Lu Li sat up from the bed, shaking his still groggy head. Had Hupo sent him back to bed yesterday? He somewhat understood the “sense of security” Jingyi felt when she was with him; he had actually felt it too when he fell asleep on Hupo’s lap yesterday.
“Have you been waiting by the bed all this time?” Lu Li lifted the blanket. Thankfully, he was still wearing his underclothes.
“I… I just… just got here…” the Little Tiger stammered, fidgeting for a good while before changing her tune. “Actually… I’ve been waiting for a while.” She would never admit that she had been sitting by the bed the whole time, watching Lu Li sleep.
“Last night…” they both said at the same time. Lu Li smiled. “You first.”
“…” The Little Tiger was particularly fidgety today. “Last night… thank you last night…”
Lu Li couldn’t help but laugh. “Thank me for what?”
“I’ve been very sad for the past half month. Thank you for guiding me yesterday. I feel much better…” She glanced at Lu Li and then quickly lowered her head. “It’s just that, what was said yesterday, can’t be taken seriously…”
“Why can’t it be taken seriously?”
“Because… because it was a lying game…” The Little Tiger’s voice grew smaller and smaller, until he couldn’t hear what she was muttering at all.
“But I’ve already taken it seriously,” Lu Li said.
“You already have a girlfriend…” The Little Tiger looked up at her, her eyes brimming with tears. “I was very happy yesterday. I was even smiling in my dreams at night. I’m already very satisfied.”
Lu Li said matter-of-factly, “Then you can be my girlfriend too. It’s not like one more will make a difference.” This statement was so scummy it was earth-shattering. It was only after he had said it that Lu Li realized something was wrong. He quickly tried to remedy it. “What I mean is, Baili and Hupo won’t blame you either.”
The Little Tiger said aggrievedly, “But a relationship that isn’t for the purpose of marriage shouldn’t exist in the first place. And you can only marry one person. Would you choose me? I’m already very satisfied…”
“What if I say that in the future, you can marry many people at once?” Lu Li retorted.
“How is that possible… It’s not like we’re writing a novel.” Chen Jianing just thought Lu Li was trying to coax her again. Last night, she had been bewitched by the man’s sweet words, but now that it was daytime, her IQ was back online.
“Have you seen the recent news? The direction of the New Marriage Law amendment is to allow freedom of marriage.” At times like this, Lu Li once again marveled at Zhu Xi’s brilliant foresight.
“Even, even if that’s the case, what will others think of me…” Chen Jianing said dejectedly. “They already said I was the other woman. Wouldn’t this just confirm it?”
Lu Li flicked her forehead. “Silly tiger, as long as I admit you’re my girlfriend, they will only say I’m a philanderer. You’re the victim.” After thinking about it, he felt the word “victim” was a bit inappropriate, but he didn’t know what word to use instead.
Chen Jianing still shook her head. “It’s not fair to you either… I was clearly willing, so why should you have to bear the rumors?”
Lu Li took the Little Tiger’s soft little hand. This time, she didn’t resist at all, but let Lu Li hold it softly.
“I don’t think there’s anything unfair. I’m already getting the better end of the deal.” If being pointed at behind his back a few times could get him a cute girlfriend, then Lu Li was willing to be pointed at a few more times. Ahem, no, any more and he really wouldn’t have enough time to go around. He had been spending much less time with Baili recently.
“…Is that so?” she looked at Lu Li foolishly, her voice drawn out and soft.
“Then are you willing to be my girlfriend?” Lu Li asked again.
“Mm…” she hummed sweetly. It was rare to hear such a straightforward answer from the Little Tiger. After being conquered, this girl seemed to have changed her face, transforming from a tiger with bared fangs and claws into a little raccoon cat that could be held and kneaded at will.
“Then… then can you kiss me again?” she mustered her courage. “Yesterday, yesterday it was too dark…”
Lu Li didn’t know what being too dark had to do with kissing, but he still sat up straight, held the Little Tiger’s face, and kissed her gently. This time, the kiss was led by Lu Li. He habitually pried open the Little Tiger’s teeth, but just as he was about to “wreak havoc,” the Little Tiger bit his lip, and the pain made him pull back. “Ow, what did you bite me for?”
“Just to bite you, you lecher.” The Little Tiger giggled, turned around, and floated out the door, her features picturesque, like a sprite. “Go brush your teeth first. You stink.”
It seemed that hoping she would be as easy to handle as Jingyi was impossible. Even after being adopted, a little tiger was still a little tiger. Lu Li smiled helplessly, let out a breath. He didn’t have bad breath, so how could he stink?
…
After Lu Li finished washing up and was walking toward the kitchen, he heard Baili and Jianing’s argument.
“Little shorty, you have to remember, from now on, in this house, you have to call me big sister. Jingyi is your second sister. Zou Yameng is your third sister. Wen Hupo is your fourth sister. You are the youngest, the little baby. You have to greet your sisters when you see them!” This was Baili’s voice.
“Pah, who would listen to a village girl?” This was Chen Jianing’s voice.
Lu Li happened to push the door in. His gaze went past the two girls and fell on the breakfast. Hmm, today’s breakfast was rice noodle rolls. Not bad, he liked it.
“Li, she’s bullying me~” An Baili’s face changed in an instant, and she tearfully hugged Lu Li’s arm. “The little shorty is already trying to one-up me as soon as she arrives. Aren’t you going to do something about her?”
Chen Jianing hesitated for a moment, then a little shyly took Lu Li’s other hand. “Lu Li, are you going to help her or me?” She wasn’t used to being so intimate with Lu Li in front of a third person; holding his hand was the limit of what she could do.
Lu Li had a dead weight hanging on each side of him. He actually just wanted to go and get the rice noodle rolls. These two girls had been arguing from their past life until now and had never stopped. The best thing to do was not to help either of them; they would naturally stop when they got tired of arguing. He licked his lips. “Can we go eat breakfast first?”
He looked at the Little Tiger. “Jianing, can you go and wake Hupo up for me? Baili and I will set the table.”
In the end, Chen Jianing wasn’t as willing to lose face as An Baili. She huffed at An Baili, turned around, and ran off. After Chen Jianing left, Lu Li looked at Baili helplessly. “Auntie An, you’re so old, and you’re still arguing with Chen Jianing? Aren’t you ashamed?”
An Baili bit the fleshy part of his hand between his thumb and forefinger. “I’m only eighteen! Don’t call me Auntie again. If you call me that again, I’ll get angry!”
“Don’t, don’t, why do you both love to bite people…” Lu Li hissed. He had been bitten by the Little Tiger when he woke up, and now he was being bitten by Baili again.
After another round of playful roughhousing with Baili, the rice noodle rolls were almost cold.
Lu Li helplessly picked up the rice noodle rolls and soy sauce. “I heard from Hupo that you’re pimping for me again?”
“What do you mean, pimping? That sounds so awful!” An Baili frantically sprinkled chili powder on the Little Tiger’s portion of rice noodle rolls, making Lu Li’s eyebrows twitch. “Li, there’s a senior in the ski club. I heard her family is in the sports equipment business. They got rich in the last few years.”
An Baili took out her phone and showed a photo to Lu Li. “Here, this is her.”
Lu Li took the phone and looked at it. Hmm, she looked like a delicate girl, it was just that the makeup on her face was a bit too garish, and her dress was too flashy. Her aesthetic sense clearly hadn’t caught up with her status. Most female university students of this age actually had this kind of taste.
“Li, go get her!” An Baili said with a straight face. “That way, you won’t have to be so busy every day!”
Lu Li looked at An Baili in a daze. This girl always had some fantastical ideas. Only she could say something like that.
“Go! Lu Li! Use honey trap!”
Said Baili the pokemon trainer
