Chapter 83: She Can’t Fit into Our Team
Tang Ze pointed to Sun Ting and the other two, then said to Xi Meng, “We were from the same complex. We ran to her complex, but there was a riot, so we escaped with them. Sigh, so many people died.”
“Wow, you’re amazing! You actually managed to escape!”
Li Linger was incredulous. Tang Ze, with four women, escaping? It was a miracle. After all, he seemed so gentle and refined.
He held his hands near the fireplace and asked curiously, “Why are you living here alone?”
“I came for a commercial shoot as a guest, and the organizers arranged for me to stay here for a night. Then I got trapped.”
Tang Ze acknowledged and said no more.
Ye Qingyi and Sun Ting exchanged glances. Master is acting a little strange. Is it because he’s met his goddess? Is he afraid to make a move? Should we be the bad guys?
“Where are you all going?”
Li Linger asked, warming her hands.
Xi Meng replied, “We’re going to Yunhai City.”
“Yunhai City? That’s over 400 kilometers away. Are you walking or driving? Oh right, you can’t drive now.”
Tang Ze suddenly stood up, interrupting. “Let’s eat something first.”
“I… I don’t have any food left, really.”
Li Linger thought he was asking her for food and quickly explained.
Seeing her pitiful expression, Tang Ze chuckled. “I’m not asking you for food. I have food. I’ll go get the car.”
He couldn’t just conjure it up. He didn’t know Li Linger well. But he had to keep his promise of a year’s worth of supplies.
Li Linger was surprised. She watched as he put on his hazmat suit and left. A while later, a fierce-looking Maybach appeared.
“Wow.”
She covered her mouth, stunned. The car looked like something out of a sci-fi movie.
Not just her, but people in the surrounding villas were also watching, their eyes filled with surprise and greed. If they could get that car, they wouldn’t be trapped here.
The car was too tall to fit in the garage, so he parked it outside.
“I’ll help.”
Li Linger offered, but An Bai stopped her.
Ye Qingyi smiled. “No need. We girls aren’t strong enough.”
“That’s not right.”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
Sun Ting patted Li Linger’s shoulder. It was rare to find a girl like her these days. She was still so innocent, still living with a pre-apocalyptic mindset. If she had experienced a real hell on earth, she wouldn’t be so naive.
Tang Ze deliberately stayed in the garage for a while, then came inside. “Alright, what should we have for lunch?”
When Li Linger saw the garage, her mouth dropped open. Over forty cases of mineral water were stacked on the side, along with a huge amount of food, from snacks to fresh meat and fruit, even red wine and skincare products!
She rubbed her eyes, unable to believe what she was seeing. Could that car really hold so much?
“What are you waiting for? Come and choose.”
Tang Ze said with a pout. You call me “sweet Master,” but you won’t even let me win a bet? So inconsiderate.
Xi Meng pulled Li Linger over with a smile. “Let’s go together. Take whatever you want.”
“I…”
“Consider it our payment for staying here. Don’t be shy.”
Tang Ze opened a bottle of Coke and chugged it down.
Ah, so refreshing.
After thinking for a moment, Li Linger said seriously, “Then I’ll cook. I can’t just eat your food for free.”
“Alright then.”
Sun Ting said softly, “I’ll help you.”
“No, no, you just rest. Tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll see what I can do.”
Tang Ze teased, “I didn’t know a big star was also a chef.”
“You’re making fun of me, Big Brother. Don’t blame me if it’s not good.”
“I won’t.”
Tang Ze smiled, wanting to see if this abundance of supplies would tempt her. If she showed even a hint of greed, he would have to punish her in the name of justice.
However, his hopes were dashed. She was as honest as they come. She cooked lunch for everyone, transforming into a little chef, even preparing a beautiful fruit platter.
“Brother Tang, sisters, have some fruit.”
Li Linger, wearing an apron, looked a little better, no trace of a celebrity’s arrogance. She was like a servant now, waiting on them.
Xi Meng had been watching her. She hadn’t eaten a single piece of fruit while preparing it.
If it had been her, after starving for so long, she would have secretly eaten some. A girl like this didn’t fit into their team.
At this thought, Xi Meng suddenly understood why Tang Ze had been so quiet. He had been excited when they arrived, discussing which celebrity it might be. But when he found that Li Linger hadn’t been changed by the apocalypse, he had changed his mind.
After all, they had all been selfish and manipulative to some extent, trying to take advantage of Tang Ze. But Li Linger seemed different. Perhaps she didn’t know how chaotic the world had become.
“We eat this all the time. You eat more. It’s full of vitamins.”
Ye Qingyi smiled. To Li Linger, her smile was incredibly gentle, like a caring older sister. She was touched. No one had cared for her like this in a long time.
Tears welled up in her eyes. “Thank you.”
“Don’t be like that. Good people will be rewarded.”
Tang Ze smiled, thinking that the world hadn’t completely fallen apart. There were still good people like Li Linger. But how long could they survive?
Li Linger only took a slice of orange. “I’ll go cook. But there’s no electricity.”
“There are self-heating rice packs in the supplies. Go look.”
Tang Ze said.
“Okay, I will.”
As Li Linger left, the four women all looked at Tang Ze, their expressions strange.
“What are you looking at? Are you having strange thoughts again?”
Tang Ze was about to give them a stern lecture.
Xi Meng leaned closer, her breath warm against his ear. “Master, such a beautiful woman, aren’t you going to take her in to warm your bed?”
“She’s different from you all. Not bad enough. She can’t fit in.”
Ye Qingyi pouted. “I’m not bad either, but you still took me.”
“You’re not bad? I saved you, and you were going to just leave. You can’t have it both ways.”
Xi Meng smiled mischievously. “This time, I’m on Master’s side. I condemn your ingratitude.”
Ye Qingyi gave up. You’re both right, I was wrong.
“So Li Linger got so many supplies. How will she repay you?”
An Bai asked curiously.
Tang Ze tapped her on the forehead. “Silly, she opened the door for us. We’re repaying her. Besides, I said, whoever opens the door without any ill intentions gets supplies.”
“Master, you’re going to knock me silly.”
Sun Ting teased, “Yeah, the more you knock, the sillier she gets.”
“Like a silly, sweet girl.”
Ye Qingyi added, which made An Bai pout.
