Chapter 61: Plagiarism p1
The next morning, the sky was gray and overcast. A cold wind blew in gusts, making the manor gate bang loudly.
“It’s not summer yet. It’s still cold in the morning and evening. Put on another layer.” Adele held a thin cloak and walked to Lina. “Don’t catch a cold.”
Lina stood obediently in front of the carriage, letting Adele drape the cloak over her. “I know. You’ve said it three times.”
“Have I?” Adele fastened the cloak and then straightened her collar.
Lina held her hand and asked, “Am I a lot of trouble for you?”
“You are.” Adele looked into her eyes.
Lina’s eyes trembled, and she was about to apologize.
Adele took in all of her cautiousness.
It’s been so long. Why is the rabbit ball still so insecure? Did I neglect something?
She couldn’t find an answer for a moment.
Adele held her hand back and said, “You are my baby. Of course I worry. Who wouldn’t worry about their baby?”
Lina’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and then she buried her face in the crook of Adele’s neck, saying coquettishly, “I’ve discovered that you’re very good at saying sweet things to coax people.”
“I’m telling the truth.” Adele touched her head. “And I’ve only ever said it to one rabbit.”
“Who is that rabbit?” Lina asked, knowing the answer, and wrapped her ears around Adele’s wrist.
Adele smiled lightly and said, “Her? She’s become a little puppy now. She’s always trying to burrow into my arms.”
Lina couldn’t stand to hear the words “little puppy” now.
The wolf master who had dealt with the leak had said “little puppy” ten thousand times while fixing the rabbit. Now, whenever she thought of it, not only did her bottom ache faintly, but her whole body also went weak.
“Teacher, you’ve gone bad,” Lina said, deliberately calling her that.
Adele stiffened.
She wanted to confess to God again.
“Bad rabbit, I learned it from you.” Adele teased her, but her concern was not a bit less. “Don’t take the curse too seriously. I don’t think that imposter can hurt us for the time being.”
Lina nodded and gave a light “mhm.”
“Alright, it’s time to go to the palace.” Adele said, “Tonight, I’ll wait for you to come home and make you muffins.”
The warmest hope is to have a lover waiting at home.
Lina pulled out of her embrace, her gaze softening. The fierce hostility on her body had, at some point, completely disappeared.
She wore a gorgeous palace gown and stepped into the carriage. Her entire being had been completely transformed. From innocent to mature, from emaciated to healthy, from timid to sharp, and now to peaceful, she was no longer the pitiful rabbit who could only hide under the bed and cry secretly.
She was the baby held in Adele’s palm, and also the confidante of the king who held absolute power on the continent of Dezhou.
A high-ranking official, her fame was unparalleled.
Now, no one dared to trample on her at will. Even if she let her rabbit ears show, no one would dare to look down on her or offend her.
Adele looked at her and waved with relief. “Go on. I’ll wait for you to come back.”
Lina nodded.
She had regretted it.
For Adele’s sake, she had given up her future. She had really regretted it.
She was a person who had been bullied from a young age, a common person who just wanted to live with dignity. She was too sensitive, too smart. She was too good at weighing the pros and cons. She knew that choosing power was the safest bet. Only what was in her own hands would not betray her.
But she had still made the most foolish choice.
To be foolish while lucid.
She had not chosen power. She had chosen love, a vague love that might not exist the next second.
Extremely foolish, beyond salvation.
But…
She really only wanted Adele.
If she didn’t have Adele, she wouldn’t live either.
Her great enmity had been avenged. She had no lingering attachment to this world to begin with.
Lina also waved at Adele and said in her heart—
The place where you are is my home. I will definitely come back. No matter how charming power is, I will not indulge in it.
…
Dilys sat in the carriage, holding a huge emerald in her hands. She was afraid of ghosts. Her face had been pale when she fainted yesterday. Now, the moment she saw the treasure, her face immediately turned rosy.
Like a big tomato.
“This is really a top-grade item…” Dilys said with admiration.
Lina looked at her, who wished she could glue her eyes to it, and couldn’t help but laugh. “If you like it, it’s yours.”
Dilys gave a “hehe” smile. “That’s not good…”
As she spoke, she was about to stuff the emerald into her pocket.
Lina smiled and said, “In a bit, when we get to the palace, there are still many treasures to be transported back to the manor for storage. I don’t trust anyone else, that’s why I called you.”
Dilys’s mouth was almost at her temples.
Are there any words in this world more heartwarming than “treasure” and “gold coins”?
The smell of money, just one sniff, and it’s so refreshing!
The carriage gradually accelerated and soon entered the city center.
Adele had been standing at the door. She watched the carriage leave until even the sound could no longer be heard, then turned and walked toward the bedroom.
The cold wind was still blowing. The dark clouds in the sky were getting thicker. The sky at around eight in the morning was almost the same as in the evening.
Bad weather can always easily evoke negative thoughts.
Adele thought of the imposter’s curse again.
“Choose her, and your future will be ruined…”
This voice lingered. Even though she had comforted Lina not to be afraid, she had no confidence in her heart.
The imposter had made trouble several times. She didn’t know when the next time she would make trouble would be, and she couldn’t even catch her…
Damn it!
Another gust of cold wind blew past. The wall lamp in the corridor suddenly went out. Then, when Adele entered the door, she was tripped by the carpet.
A hint of unease arose in her heart. What’s going on?
Today seems… not so peaceful? Will Lina be in danger?
She shook her head, trying to shake off these ominous thoughts, and comforted herself that it was because she hadn’t slept well last night.
Lina has guards with her. In broad daylight, what could happen?
But the next second, she saw the official document on the table.
She clearly remembered Lina saying that she had to bring it to the palace today. How did she miss it?
Adele thought for a moment, grabbed the official document, turned, and ran downstairs.
She had to deliver it to Lina. The official document was a secret. She didn’t trust anyone else to touch it. She could only go herself.
However, just as Adele left, a figure appeared in the room. She was fainter than usual, as if she were about to disappear. But her eyes shot out a blood-red killing intent.
She murmured, “I can’t live… you don’t get to live either… let’s all die together!”

The carriage drove into the royal palace. Dilys looked out the window curiously, her eyes fixed on the palace architecture.
This was her first time in the palace.
The luxurious architecture, the solemn army, and all the new things were an eye-opener for her.
Lina closed the official document, handed a list to her, and said, “This is the detailed list. After you’ve checked it, have someone load the carriage. Someone will pull it back to the manor.”
Dilys quickly took the paper with both hands.
The list was all treasures.
A pair of pure gold candlesticks, a box of deep-sea flame stones, a pair of emerald jade shoes…
Dilys was captivated just by reading the names.
Lina said, “Besides that pearl necklace, if there’s anything you like, you can keep it for yourself.”
Dilys was not surprised.
Lina had always been generous, especially to her.
But to so frankly allow her to choose from such a batch of treasures was a sign of absolute trust.
The feeling of being valued made Dilys’s heart soften, and her eyes grew hot.
She loved money because she was an orphan. From a young age, she had fought tooth and nail for a few coins. Although her life was better now, she still had an obsession with money.
She had never thought that she could receive such a generous reward, let alone that she could become a butler…
A sourness suddenly rushed to her nose. Dilys hastily lowered her head. She held the light piece of paper tightly, but it felt as heavy as a thousand pounds.
A worldly person like her, once again, had the thought of going through fire and water for Lina.
To distract herself, she subconsciously looked out the window.
A group of ragged prisoners were being escorted by soldiers, stumbling toward the square.
The atmosphere was extremely oppressive.
Dilys asked casually, “My lord, those people… where are they being taken?”
Lina’s voice was indifferent, as if she were extremely disgusted with that group of people. “Today is the public execution day. Naturally, they are being dragged to the square to be hanged for all to see.”
Today was the day the first batch of Sacred Cult followers were to be executed.
The carriage drove toward the depths of the royal palace. Neither of them noticed that the distant sky was getting darker, the dark clouds piling up, pressing down on the royal palace like thick ink.
The air also became heavy, as if a storm was about to come.
