Chapter 7: Confession
“You!?”
Adele quickly pulled her into the room. She hadn’t read the earlier plot carefully and didn’t know that on the night of the full moon, the order of the novel’s world would collapse.
She thought Lina was trying to ingratiate herself again. In a fit of anger, her tone grew several shades heavier.
“Lina! Get a grip!”
Lina stared at her for a few seconds, then suddenly flung her hand away as if she had gone mad.
“Don’t come near me.”
She staggered back a few steps and roared with almost all her strength, “Don’t come near me! Don’t get close to me!”
She was so thin that the roar made her entire chest cavity tremble.
Adele froze, both shocked and bewildered. “What’s wrong with you?”
“The moon is about to be full…” Lina had retreated to the window, her entire figure appearing exceptionally gloomy against the blue-toned sky.
On the night of the full moon, everyone would be controlled by the desires deep within their hearts.
Lina remembered again. Three months ago, the arm that had been brutally broken began to ache faintly.
At this moment, she seemed to have torn off her obedient mask. A scorching hatred flowed from her blood-red eyes. “I have no quarrel with any of you, so why do you hit me! Why do you bully me!”
“What on earth did I do wrong!”
Her weak legs could no longer support her teetering body. Lina fell without warning, her bones crashing against the cold floor tiles.
A horrifying thud echoed in the room, but she showed no expression, as if she felt no pain, as if she had truly become a lifeless sacrificial offering.
No matter how fast Adele moved, she couldn’t catch her. She could only say anxiously, “Let me see, did you injure a joint!”
Lina didn’t move, her long hair falling to cover her expression.
“What is wrong with you?” Adele grabbed her shoulders. “Tell me, I’ll help you.”
Lina finally looked up. The gloom and anger in her eyes had vanished completely, replaced by her usual cautiousness.
It was as if the person who had just gone mad wasn’t her.
“Teacher…” Lina was on the verge of tears, her breathing rapid. “I’m begging you, please don’t hit me later, okay?”
She paused, then added, “It really hurts when a bone is broken.”
In Lina’s eyes, Adele had come to her as an instructor, and all who believed in the Sacred Cult were madmen in her eyes.
Although Adele had never hurt her while she was lucid, she didn’t dare to gamble.
Once order collapsed, would Adele still be able to control herself?
“How could I possibly hit you? Have you forgotten the promise I made you?”
Lina’s body was burning up. She was about to be controlled by her own desires.
What were her desires?
To live?
No.
To be cared for, to be cherished, to be protected…
The wounds on her body could be healed by medicine, but the wounds on her soul were constantly festering.
Tears pattered onto the floor. Lina’s spirit became incredibly fragile at this moment, and all her suppressed pain poured out.
She had been bullied all this time. It was so unfair.
And so helpless.
Adele grabbed her arm. She desperately wanted to burrow into that embrace filled with a cool fragrance.
But she didn’t dare.
She was even more afraid that she would lose control. Looking into Adele’s worried eyes, she began to tremble uncontrollably.
If I start talking nonsense later, will she despise me…
The thought of Adele hating her was like a bucket of cold water being poured over her head. She was cold one moment, hot the next. The feeling of her heart being twisted by a knife was the price of resisting desire.
She didn’t dare to open her mouth again, only swallowing all her pain.
She didn’t want Adele to think she was both crazy and greedy.
Adele was so anxious she was about to bristle. She wasn’t from this world and didn’t feel the effects of the collapsing order at all. She thought Lina was having a stress response and said urgently, “I’ll go find a physician for you!”
“It’s useless…” Lina shook her head, crying. “It’s no use…”
Reason briefly returned. She suddenly bit her lip hard, so hard that blood instantly welled up.
I can’t talk nonsense and make Teacher angry.
Teacher won’t like me.
I have to endure it…
Seeing her bite her lip until it bled, Adele was completely at a loss. “Don’t!”
She pinched Lina’s cheeks, forcing her to open her mouth, but in doing so, she accidentally triggered her illusion magic.
In the blink of an eye, the two of them entered an illusion.
Perhaps because her mind was unstable, everything in the illusion was unfamiliar. A large part of it was even beyond Adele’s control.
She was more like someone who had strayed into another world.
This was a monastery.
A night-watch nun squatted in a mold-stained corner. The hinges of the iron gate swung slowly in the night.
The statue of a sufferer was fractured into mottled patches of color by the flickering candlelight. A martyr, face covered in blood, stared with hollow eyes at the confessional, from which came the sound of dripping water.
Drip, drip—
Adele approached the confessional. The moment her hand touched the doorknob, she sensed a black shadow flash past behind her. She spun around abruptly, only to crash right into Lina’s arms.
!
The little rabbit was no longer a young girl.
She was mature, having shed her timidity and cowardice. Her fully developed features were even more stunning than in her youth, with an added touch of assertiveness to her peerless beauty. She wore a nun’s long robe, her entire body covered from head to toe.
But her slender fingers held a half-smoked cigar.
“Teacher, long time no see.”
The dark red tip of the cigar glowed and faded in the dim corridor. Lina smoked extremely slowly, the aggression in her eyes making Adele feel completely out of her depth.
She subconsciously stepped back, but her heel was blocked by the confessional door.
There was no escape.
“How did you learn to smoke… cough!”
Before she could finish, a wisp of gray-white smoke was blown in her face.
The culprit narrowed her eyes slightly. “The moment you see me, you try to hide?”
The cigar was slightly bitter. The scent of caramel wrapped in leather aggressively invaded her nasal cavity, like a silent punishment.
Adele choked. Her throat tightened, and she coughed until her body trembled. Her long, curled eyelashes were wet with physiological tears. She looked up in alarm. “You’ve gone bad.”
The moment the smoke entered her windpipe, Adele frowned slightly. She was a little angry.
Smoking was bad for one’s health. How could the little rabbit do this?
She had already forgotten that this was an illusion.
Because concern had become an instinct.
Lina gave a half-smile. Her blue eyes blinked, and a mischievous look instantly appeared. “Teacher isn’t by my side. There’s no one to teach me what’s right and what’s wrong.”
She braced one hand on the door, trapping Adele firmly in front of her.
Now, they were of equal height. No one was looking up at the other anymore.
The sound of dripping water in the confessional grew louder.
Adele was momentarily speechless.
Lina’s expression suddenly changed. She abruptly raised the cigar in her hand and thrust it straight toward Adele’s face.
Adele’s subconscious reaction was to close her eyes, not to fight back.
The cigar grazed her ear and was extinguished on the oak door.
Lina gritted her teeth. “Teacher, what are you afraid of? Do you think I would hurt you?”
Hiss—
The sound of the cigar being crushed out was right next to her ear, making Adele’s scalp tingle.
The resin of the oak was scorched by the high temperature. The smell of burning wood, intertwined with the bitter aftertaste of the tobacco, held Adele firmly in its grasp.
“No, I’m not afraid of you,” Adele said, shaking her head.
A slight smile touched Lina’s lips, but her eyes looked like they wanted to eat someone. “Alright, I believe you. I remember you said that if I went bad, it was because you didn’t teach me well. In that case, you should be punished too.”
Adele was pressed completely against the confessional door. A wet feeling spread from the soles of her feet. She looked down and saw that what was flowing from the crack in the door was not water at all.
It was blood!
Before she could react, the scene instantly shifted to the classroom.
“Teacher.”
Lina, who had just been pinning her against the door, appeared on the other side of the bookshelf, staring at her through the gaps between the pages.
The next second, the rabbit’s hand was on her shoulder.
“Teacher, I’m right here.”
An obedient voice came from behind, but Adele broke out in a cold sweat.
The blood just now hadn’t scared her, but the omnipresent Lina truly terrified her.
They were clearly sapphire-like eyes, but at this moment, they were more terrifying than a python’s vertical pupils.
She had the feeling of being stalked.
“Teacher, look at me.”
Adele turned around stiffly. Lina had changed back into a young girl.
“What’s wrong with you? Why do you look so pale?”
The rabbit ball was very well-behaved, her eyes full of concern, without a trace of aggression.
Adele breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s nothing, nothing.”
“Teacher, let’s play hide-and-seek,” Lina said, then ran toward the back of the classroom.
Adele didn’t move.
A more mature female voice sounded. “Teacher, be good, okay?”
That cigar felt as if it had been pressed against Adele’s heart. She trembled violently and finally moved her feet.
The classroom was dimly lit. Lina’s figure darted between the bookshelves. Adele was clearly a white wolf skilled at hunting, yet she couldn’t catch the lop-eared rabbit no matter what.
Suddenly, a snow-white headscarf appeared at her feet.
Adele looked up. Lina was standing opposite her, the long hair that had been coiled on top of her head now falling down, spreading out like a waterfall.
“Lina…”
Adele couldn’t help but step forward to chase her.
This time, it was voluntary.
But Lina didn’t wait for her. She just kept running.
Adele kept chasing her. On the corridor, another belt appeared.
…
Finally, it was a sacred robe.
Adele stared at the clothes on the floor and abruptly stopped.
What am I chasing?
Am I crazy!
Adele’s breathing was rapid, her racing heart making the tips of her ears turn red.
The next second, the scene before her began to spin.
Countless scriptures rained down from the sky, hitting her body like God’s punishment for a scoundrel.
Lina’s voice then sounded—
“Teacher, the point we’ve reached today, everything that is happening now, is the result of what you have taught me.”
“Teacher, if you didn’t indulge me, I would never be able to subdue you. My audacity is all your doing.”
“Teacher, did you know? In the past, I always made mistakes on purpose, so that you would spend time disciplining me.”
Adele frantically covered her ears, but her face was stung by the falling scriptures. She covered her face, but Lina’s voice was everywhere.
Help—
The air suddenly fell silent.
The sound of dripping water started again.
Adele peeked open one eye and found herself suspended in the air in the confessional.
And Lina was lying on the floor. Her pure sacred robe had a hole burned in it by a cigar. Her clothes were wrinkled as she gave Adele a wicked smile.
“Teacher, you really should confess properly.”
…
Adele realized what she had done and cried out, pulling herself out of the illusion.
Crazy!
Everyone’s gone crazy!
The illusion shattered like a mirror with a “crack.”
The night rushed in from all directions. The clock on the wall had already gone around three times.
Adele’s face was as pale as paper.
Illusion magic itself was very draining, not to mention the successive shocks.

…
Lina hadn’t woken up yet. She lay on the floor, motionless.
Looking at that innocent young face, Adele really couldn’t connect her with the person in the illusion.
Lina…
Please don’t do anything foolish.
Adele placed Lina on the bed and slipped into the bathroom alone.
She was covered in sweat, and her heart rate wouldn’t come down.
The moment Adele stepped into the bathroom, Lina woke up.
She subconsciously moved her arms and legs.
Good, they weren’t broken.
Lina lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling in thought.
Adele hadn’t hit her, which meant Adele really wasn’t a violent person, nor was she psychologically twisted.
Then what was her desire?
Money? Power?
Lina thought and thought, but couldn’t find an answer.
A rustling sound came from the bathroom. Lina got out of bed and tiptoed closer.
She pressed her ear against the door. Just as she was about to eavesdrop, the door opened.
A wave of heat rushed out, carrying the scent of shower gel.
Lina was startled. Her off-balance body fell into a warm embrace.
Lina didn’t remember the memories from the illusion, but Adele remembered them clearly.
At this moment, the rabbit ball who had just committed a crime had an innocent look on her face, her fluffy tail still wagging shamelessly.
Adele suddenly felt a strong urge to pinch her face.
Bad rabbit.
The frost on Adele’s face melted away, replaced by a crimson blush. Even her voice was soft. “What are you doing?”
Lina was extremely flustered. The moment she was caught, her fur stood on end, and her two ears shot up in surrender again.
She mumbled, unable to form a complete sentence.
“I… I, I just happened to walk over.”
Even though Lina’s behavior in the illusion had been very offensive, there wasn’t a trace of blame in Adele’s eyes.
She just spoiled this rabbit.
Adele helped Lina stand up straight and said, “Then be careful when you walk. It hurts if you scrape your skin.”
Lina nodded obediently. After standing up straight, she glanced down at her feet and said with an innocent face, “Teacher, there’s a lot of water on the floor.”
【?】
【I kind of want to see some insubordination.】
【Insubordination +1】
【I want to see them switch!】
【If this were Jinjiang, Teacher, Master, Stepmother, and Stepsister would all be high-risk identities.】
The bathroom door closed in the blink of an eye, leaving only a confused Lina standing there.
Did she just see Teacher run away?
