Chapter 18:
Ge Yaru had been tailing the top-tier singer and dancer Fu Chuchu’s car all the way to Jinbiao Mingting, but when she arrived, she found that the security at this residential complex was very strict, and outside vehicles were not allowed to enter.
After pulling some strings, she finally managed to get her car into the parking lot.
But by the time she did, she had lost Fu Chuchu. Ge Yaru had no choice but to resignedly search each floor.
Her finger was a little swollen. Qi Sijia got into the elevator and took off her rubber gloves.
But then she realized there was another person in the elevator. The other person stared at her finger for a long time.
Qi Sijia raised an eyebrow slightly and quickly put on her gloves.
“Don’t hide it,” Ge Yaru said. “I’ve already recognized you. What are you doing here, Qi Sijia?”
The woman opposite her was wearing a black sweatshirt with ripped jeans and a black bucket hat. Her hair was very short. If it weren’t for the pink earring in her ear, it would be difficult to tell her gender at a glance.
Qi Sijia was a little taller than her. She lowered her eyes. “I work here.”
“Firefighter?”
Qi Sijia had a gas mask on her face, and her clothes were fully armed. Her voice was muffled by the gas mask and was hard to hear clearly. If it weren’t for the small red mole on her left hand, which Ge Yaru remembered vividly and coveted, she really wouldn’t have recognized Qi Sijia in this outfit.
She just didn’t know why Qi Sijia was wearing a sanitation worker’s uniform.
Ge Yaru saw Qi Sijia shake her head in denial. “No.”
“Disinfector?”
Qi Sijia shook her head again. “Cleaner.”
…
The elevator fell silent for a moment. Although she knew that Qi Sijia lived in a dilapidated building in the development zone and was from a poor family, Ge Yaru had never expected Qi Sijia to be in such a sorry state.
A soft cough landed.
“Don’t you have anything to ask me?”
What is there to ask?
Qi Sijia looked up in confusion. Ge Yaru happened to meet Qi Sijia’s eyes.
“I’ve been doing well these years.”
Qi Sijia said “oh.” “Congratulations.”
The conversation came to a dead end.
…
The elevator stopped at the sixteenth floor and then continued down.
Ge Yaru frowned, calmed herself down, and put the DSLR camera in her backpack before she spoke. “It’s been two years. I know you have a grudge against me. Since we’ve met, I’m sorry for what I said when I broke up with you.”
Qi Sijia actually couldn’t remember how they had broken up. Out of politeness, she said it was okay.
“Do you still remember the vegetable patch behind my house? It’s been developed now.”
Qi Sijia: “Mmm?”
“The Panjia Village area.”
Qi Sijia said “oh.” “Congratulations, Miss Pan.”
The air fell into the same silence.
Ge Yaru couldn’t speak for a long time. She took a deep breath and confirmed that there was no hint of mockery in Qi Sijia’s eyes. Only then did she recover from the embarrassment of being forgotten by her ex.
Fortunately, her temper had improved after years of being a paparazzi. “You’ve forgotten my name, haven’t you?”
Qi Sijia thought for a moment. “Your name is Pan…”
Ge Yaru laughed in anger. If she hadn’t already experienced what kind of person her ex Qi Sijia was, she would have almost thrown a punch.
She no longer beat around the bush and reminisced.
When exes meet, it’s either mutual dislike or lingering resentment. Ge Yaru was the latter. When she was dating Qi Sijia, it was the darkest moment of her life. The first time they met, it was a rainy, muddy day. She had been beaten and was rolling in the mud, with only a sliver of health left. It was Qi Sijia who held an umbrella and looked down to shelter her.
So later, no matter who she met, she would unconsciously look for Qi Sijia’s shadow.
But if this was love, Ge Yaru didn’t think so. Otherwise, after she became famous and even knew where Qi Sijia lived, she had never once looked for her.
Their relationship had lasted ten days. They hadn’t even touched hands. It was less than a relationship.
But after many years, when they met, she had to ask.
“Do you have a partner now?”
In the enclosed space, Ge Yaru leaned closer. She had a strong scent of Dior perfume.
Qi Sijia moved to the corner. “No.”
Hearing this, a smile appeared on Ge Yaru’s face. She took a few steps back towards Qi Sijia, squeezed next to her again, her eyes filled with a sweet and alluring temptation. She stood next to Qi Sijia and said, “Maybe you should consider me. I’ve opened a studio in the Intercontinental Center these past few years, and I’m quite well-known in the industry. Being a cleaner must be hard. Are you interested in coming with me?”
The other person might as well have written “I’ll support you” on her face.
Qi Sijia found it a little amusing. “Not considering it.”
Suddenly, the elevator dinged.
Meng Jiang stood at the elevator entrance. Perhaps she was going downstairs to throw out the trash. She was wearing very warm pajamas and a cotton jacket.
A scarf was wrapped around her three times, covering her mouth and nose, making her face invisible. A pair of sunglasses was perched on her eyes, and her long, curly hair was loose behind her, uncombed, lazy and casual.
Perhaps it was because of her casual stance that her aura and posture surpassed that of a model. Out of professional habit, Ge Yaru looked at her several times.
Qi Sijia walked out of the elevator, blocking Ge Yaru’s view, and turned back to ask Meng Jiang, “Is your stomach better?”
Meng Jiang nodded.
“You know each other?” Ge Yaru interrupted their conversation.
Qi Sijia was noncommittal. She frowned and urged, “Aren’t you going to the first floor?”
Ge Yaru slung the DSLR bag over her right shoulder, her gaze still fixed on Meng Jiang, her stare unpleasant.
Qi Sijia just wanted to get rid of her quickly and asked again.
Only then did Ge Yaru reply, “I’m going up.”
After she finished, she turned to Meng Jiang. “Which floor are you on?” This was directed at Meng Jiang. She made a gesture to politely press the elevator button for Meng Jiang.
Meng Jiang didn’t even lift her eyelids and pressed the down button.
The elevator doors closed in front of them. Meng Jiang turned her head and looked deeply at Qi Sijia. “She and you—”
Qi Sijia pursed her lips, thought seriously about her current relationship with Ge Yaru, and finally squeezed out two words, “Not close.”
“I know her,” Meng Jiang said, her gaze on Qi Sijia profound. After a moment, she said, “This is a famous paparazzi in the entertainment industry.”
“Most of the people she targets have big trouble.”
Qi Sijia was stunned. Her first reaction was that her identity as Miss Q’s first love had been exposed. Thinking about the consequences of being exposed, she immediately regretted talking to Ge Yaru.
Meng Jiang saw her expression and, after a pause, withdrew her sharp gaze, pulling away at just the right moment.
Meng Jiang was wearing pajamas and was not in a hurry to go upstairs. The elevator on the right opened. She did not go in. Instead, she followed behind Qi Sijia.
In the stairwell, only the two of them were left.
Qi Sijia was a little nervous. She asked, “Do you want me to bring you a small stool?”
Meng Jiang thought to herself, It’s not like I have a stomachache all the time.
“No need, you can go about your business.”
So she’s going to accompany me to work? Supervise my work?
But when they actually reached the stairwell, it seemed that she wasn’t there to specifically accompany her to work, but just to stay in the corridor.
Qi Sijia carried the bucket and looked down from above.
The woman happened to take out her phone from her pocket and leaned against the wall. Sunglasses were perched on her nose, making her expression completely unreadable.
But thinking that someone was with her, Qi Sijia held her breath while carrying the bucket, and her ears quietly turned red.
On the other side, Meng Jiang thoughtfully sent a text message to Chen Cheng, asking her to find out why the paparazzi was here.
[Also, help me investigate someone, a new cleaning auntie who reported for duty at Jinbiao Mingting this Monday.]
Chen Cheng gave an “OK” sign and agreed. Then she changed the subject, her tone apologetic. [Has Mrs. Chen come to see you recently…]
[She came three days ago.]
[She didn’t do anything, did she?]
[It’s fine, same old.]
Meng Jiang lightly changed the subject. [Have you controlled the public opinion on the hot search that Ji Liu liked recently?]
[Don’t worry, there are no bad comments to clean up. To be honest, not just the netizens, I also don’t believe that you would be hung up on a player.]
Meng Jiang lowered her eyes, her long eyelashes almost touching the bridge of her nose.
Her mood was not happy. [I didn’t like players before, can’t I like them now?]
Chen Cheng really couldn’t do anything about her. No matter how much she tried to persuade her, it was useless. She happened to be surfing the internet, and instead of typing, she sent a voice message. “Fine, as long as you can tolerate her countless exes appearing one after another, I wish you and her a happy ending.”
Qi Sijia’s hand, which was holding the broom, suddenly paused. Her eyelashes fluttered.
At the same time, she heard Meng Jiang say impatiently to the person on the other end, “Why do you talk so much?”
She did not deny that she had someone she liked.
Chen Cheng: “You’ve been eating gunpowder recently.”
Qi Sijia inexplicably heard Meng Jiang’s voice message on speaker. She said nothing, her eyes lowered, without joy or sorrow.
She had been overthinking again. The top-floor owner had someone she liked. At this point, this secret crush was over.
Before going home, Qi Sijia sent a message to Wealthy Peony: [Honey, you were right. She has someone she likes.]
crineeee meng jiang is cuckholding herself 😭✋🏽
