Two people living together meant revealing the most private, true parts of themselves to each other.
Their living habits, eating and sleeping schedules—all had to mesh. Many people couldn’t withstand these trivial daily frictions and ended up breaking up.
But luckily, Gu Xizhou and Su Zhiyi were both very disciplined people who considered each other. Plus, they slept in separate rooms. Their cohabitation life turned out surprisingly harmonious.
Every morning at six, Gu Xizhou would get up early, run two laps around the complex, buy breakfast, and bring it back for Su Zhiyi who had just woken up. They’d wash up and head to the hospital together.
After work in the evening, they would go together to the large supermarket near the hospital to buy what they needed for dinner, then cook together in the kitchen.
After dinner, Gu Xizhou would lead Su Zhiyi in exercising until 8:30 PM. Finally, they’d wash up, work on their theses, and return to their respective rooms to sleep by 11:30 PM.
They lived under one roof like this for over two months. Then Su Zhiyi’s close friend and junior high classmate, Mu Zhiqing, returned from studying abroad.
That day happened to be a Friday. Su Zhiyi had no shift, so she arranged to meet Mu Zhiqing.
They ate at a restaurant. During the meal, Mu Zhiqing asked about Su Zhiyi’s love life, full of gossip: “Your girl might look tiny, but you said she often takes you exercising and weekly does free combat training… Her performance must be pretty good in that area, right?”
Mu Zhiqing was a very open-minded omega. Since differentiating at sixteen, she’d had many partners, an adventurous spirit with few inhibitions.
In her words, with her family background, she might be forced into a business marriage after becoming an adult, so of course she had to play enough before marriage.
Mu Zhiqing had brought this up before, but never as bluntly as today.
Su Zhiyi blushed slightly. She considered her words before answering very euphemistically: “She and I… haven’t done those kinds of things.”
Mu Zhiqing was profoundly shocked, calling it outrageous: “No way! You’ve been dating for two years, and now you’re living together! She has a living, breathing, gorgeous beauty like you, and she feels nothing?”
The restaurant had many people, and Mu Zhiqing’s voice wasn’t exactly quiet. The roots of Su Zhiyi’s ears flushed: “She’s quite traditional, doesn’t really accept… premarital…”
Mu Zhiqing quickly held up a hand to stop her: “Hold it. In this day and age, what alpha is like that? Alphas are beasts swayed by pheromones.”
“Your pheromones smell so good, even I, an omega, can’t resist. How can she do nothing at all?”
“I don’t think it’s conservatism. Maybe there’s a problem somewhere specific.”
Su Zhiyi’s words caught in her throat instantly.
On this topic, Mu Zhiqing began talking animatedly: “She works out year-round, keeps her physical hormones at a certain level… maybe she’s lacking in that department.”
“Zhiyi, let me tell you, it’s not the old days anymore. Omegas aren’t that conservative. If you want to be with an alpha long-term, you must make sure her pheromone levels can help you through your heat. Otherwise, after marriage, you’ll have a really hard time.”
“If you really want to be with her forever, you’d better confirm if you two are compatible in bed. Unless you’re prepared to live in a platonic relationship forever.”
Mu Zhiqing earnestly advised Su Zhiyi not to be blinded by love. For the sake of her future life, she should try things out with Gu Xizhou.
The pure, innocent Su Zhiyi spent the meal listening to all sorts of messy talk. By the time she parted from Mu Zhiqing and returned home, her ears were still burning.
She arrived home at 6 PM. Gu Xizhou had just gotten back from the hospital, carrying several shopping bags, changing her shoes in the foyer.
Seeing Su Zhiyi walk through the door, she looked surprised: “Didn’t you say you’d be out until 9 PM and to have me pick you up? Why are you back at this hour?”
Seeing her caring expression, Su Zhiyi felt her heart relax. She smiled and answered: “The place she wanted to go later… I didn’t really feel like it, so I came back.”
Gu Xizhou’s eyes also showed a smile: “Perfect timing. I bought groceries downstairs. Change your shoes first, I’ll start cooking.”
“Mm.”
Gu Xizhou was very fast. An hour later, two dishes and a soup were on the table. During the meal, Su Zhiyi was a bit absent-minded. Gu Xizhou noticed but said nothing. They quickly finished eating, swiftly washed the dishes, and began their fixed exercise routine.
After exercising for a while, they each retreated to their bathrooms to wash up. Gu Xizhou changed into her pajamas, clipped her dried long hair up with a claw clip, and sat at her computer desk in her room to continue writing her graduation thesis.
Su Zhiyi came out of her own bathroom and saw a small carton of ice cream sitting on the table.
Since it had been out for a while, the outside of the carton was beaded with water droplets, looking like it was about to melt.
Su Zhiyi’s brows arched. She picked up the carton and knocked on Gu Xizhou’s door.
Hearing the knock, Gu Xizhou called out without looking up: “Come in.”
Su Zhiyi pushed the door open. Holding the small carton between her fingers, leaning against the doorframe, she asked with a laugh: “Xizhou… what’s this thing?”
Gu Xizhou lifted her gaze to look at her. She saw the tall, fair-skinned great beauty wearing a purple slip nightgown, her snowy arms bare, standing by the door. Her slightly damp long hair cascaded over her shoulders, perfectly framing her straight collarbones. She looked breathtakingly alluring.
Gu Xizhou only glanced once, not daring to look again. She turned back, continuing to type away at her screen: “Ice cream. You didn’t eat much dinner, I was afraid you’d get hungry, so today you can have dessert.”
“Oh~ So thoughtful, girlfriend.”
Gu Xizhou smiled but didn’t reply, changing the subject: “Why didn’t you dry your hair properly? Dry it before you eat.”
Su Zhiyi looked at her focused profile, her cool expression, the sharp line of her jaw. She found this Gu Xizhou very sexy.
She wasn’t sure why, but recalling what Mu Zhiqing said today, she thought for a moment, holding the ice cream carton, and walked over to Gu Xizhou’s side.
A shadow fell over her. Gu Xizhou tilted her head up slightly to look at Su Zhiyi: “Why aren’t you going?”
Su Zhiyi blinked and said, righteously: “I was waiting for someone who has no sense of timing. Once she’s done with work, could she help me dry my hair?”
Gu Xizhou was taken aback. She lifted her hands from the keyboard, resigned: “Fine. Go sit on the bed, I’ll dry it for you.”
Only then, satisfied, did Su Zhiyi return to her own room and sit on the bed. Holding her carton of ice cream, she ate while letting Gu Xizhou dry her hair.
The hair dryer whirred. Gu Xizhou knelt behind her on the bed, holding the dryer in one hand while running the other through Su Zhiyi’s thick, beautiful hair. She asked with a smile: “Is this brand good?”
Su Zhiyi nodded, answering obediently: “It’s tasty.”
A sweet, clean cherry fragrance emanated from the person before her. Gu Xizhou felt a stir. She switched off the hair dryer, leaned close to Su Zhiyi’s ear, and whispered: “Let me have a taste too.”
Warm breath brushed her ear. Su Zhiyi’s heart trembled slightly, her body heating up.
Somehow, Mu Zhiqing’s words slipped into her mind: “You have to try it out with her…”
Try? How? She needed the right opportunity.
But right now… wasn’t this the perfect opportunity?
Su Zhiyi pursed her lips, tasting the sweet, icy coldness in her mouth. She turned her head to look at Gu Xizhou: “Are you sure?”
Gu Xizhou nodded, kneeling on the bed, answering seriously: “Mm, I’m sure.”
Su Zhiyi thought, You asked for it. Holding the ice cream carton, she turned around, scooped up a spoonful, and brought it to Gu Xizhou’s lips.
Gu Xizhou instinctively opened her mouth to receive it. But the spoonful, just about to enter her mouth, abruptly changed course. With an “om nom,” Su Zhiyi popped it into her own mouth.
Gu Xizhou was instantly stunned. What did that mean? Didn’t she just agree to let her try some?
But before she could regain her wits, Su Zhiyi, holding the ice cream carton with one hand, leaned over and pressed against her.
Gu Xizhou’s eyes closed reflexively. The ice-cold ice cream, mixed with the rich cherry scent, was transferred over to her. The sweet, fresh flavor spread on her tongue, while the sweet cherry smell enveloped her completely.
Gu Xizhou’s mind instantly went fuzzy.
The ice cream was thoroughly mixed in their mouths. Su Zhiyi straddled Gu Xizhou’s lap, holding her from above.
They entangled for a good while. When Gu Xizhou was jolted back to her senses, it was almost like a startled reaction. She forcefully pushed Su Zhiyi away.
Su Zhiyi sat straddling Gu Xizhou’s thighs, her hands resting on Gu Xizhou’s shoulders. Her gaze involuntarily traveled downwards.
Gu Xizhou immediately covered Su Zhiyi’s eyes, her ears red, her voice hoarse: “Don’t tease me. There’s nothing good to see.”
This was too strange. She actually had a reaction. It was utterly bizarre.
Su Zhiyi noticed this subtle change. Her voice trembled slightly: “Xizhou…”
Gu Xizhou pushed her away decisively, hastily jumping off the bed. Like she’d seen a ghost, she began her escape: “I need to use the bathroom first.”
That brief escape turned into over half an hour.
Su Zhiyi sat on the bed, listening to the faint sound of water running from the bathroom outside. Her body couldn’t stop burning.
Her face was red, her ears were red, even the skin of her chest exposed above her neckline was red. Her body felt strange and restless. Uncontrollable, wild thoughts ran through her mind.
Her body spontaneously began replaying that kiss, along with the secret, unspoken sensation. It was truly terrible.
Su Zhiyi couldn’t help but cover her face, burying her cheeks in her palms. Remembering that sensation from earlier, she thought, half-despairingly: What do you mean, she’s lacking? She’s clearly very capable!
