11. Secret Realm
Because the secret realm had a cultivation restriction, it didn’t attract much attention from the major sects. So, when Mo Xiao arrived with Zuo Wuyi and Yun He, the area around the secret realm was mostly filled with disciples from smaller sects clustered together.
The moment Mo Xiao’s group of three arrived near the secret realm, they immediately attracted many gazes. People recognized the disciple robes of the Wen Dao Sect on them and began to talk in low voices. Before long, someone came over to strike up a conversation.
“Fellow Daoists, are you here to explore the secret realm? I am an elder of the Jin Yu Sect.” The person who came to talk was a middle-aged man at the mid-Golden Core stage. He introduced himself with a very good attitude.
Mo Xiao searched her memory for the name “Jin Yu Sect” and, finding no impression of it, simply nodded in response.
“The secret realm here just opened once three hours ago. The next opening will be in another three hours. We’ve set up a temporary resting place here. Why don’t you fellow Daoists come over and rest for a while?” The Jin Yu Sect elder was not surprised by Mo Xiao’s reaction. After all, they were just an obscure little sect. He would have been surprised if Mo Xiao had been overly enthusiastic.
“Thank you, fellow Daoist, for telling us this information.” Mo Xiao politely refused. “But it’s fine for us to rest here for a moment.”
“Then I won’t disturb you.” The Jin Yu Sect elder didn’t say much more. He had come over just to make an impression on the Wen Dao Sect disciples. That way, if something happened inside the secret realm, he might be able to ask them for some protection.
Once one person did it, others followed. Seeing more and more people eager to approach, Mo Xiao directly led Yun He and Zuo Wuyi away, finding a quiet, shady spot to rest temporarily.
“Senior Sister, let’s go change our clothes in a bit. Wearing the sect’s robes seems a bit too conspicuous,” Yun He said. “You brought other clothes, right, Senior Sister?”
Mo Xiao nodded. “I was inconsiderate this time.”
In her past life, Mo Xiao had basically stayed within the sect to cultivate. Even when she went out, it was usually to places with demonic beasts for combat practice. She rarely went exploring in secret realms like this, so she didn’t know that Wen Dao Sect disciples were such a hot commodity in the eyes of other cultivators.
After Mo Xiao and Yun He had each changed into casual clothes, they saw Zuo Wuyi squatting on the ground alone, poking at an old tree root with her finger in a very aggrieved manner.
“Little Junior Sister, why haven’t you changed your clothes?” Yun He asked with a concerned look. “Did you not prepare any clothes?”
Zuo Wuyi first pouted at Yun He, then looked at Mo Xiao with a pitiful expression. “You two senior sisters can set up a barrier to block the view of outsiders, but I can’t. How am I supposed to change my clothes?”
Mo Xiao raised an eyebrow. “The robes for Qi Refinement disciples are simpler. Little Junior Sister just needs to change her outer robe.”
Zuo Wuyi squatted on the ground without moving. “But both of you senior sisters changed most of your clothes. I want to change all of mine too.”
“Be obedient,” Mo Xiao said. “You promised me this yourself.”
Hearing Mo Xiao’s words, Zuo Wuyi felt even more aggrieved. Master had clearly already agreed to let her come, yet this villain Mo Xiao still took the opportunity to set conditions for her. Wasn’t this clearly digging a pit for her to jump into?
“Zuo Wuyi, get up.” Mo Xiao’s voice became a little heavier.
Zuo Wuyi reluctantly got up from the ground. “Then I want Senior Sister to help me change.” I’m already out here. I don’t believe Mo Xiao will leave me all alone.
“Are you sure?” Mo Xiao asked.
“I’m sure,” Zuo Wuyi nodded. She was certain Mo Xiao wouldn’t do anything to her.
The interaction between Mo Xiao and Zuo Wuyi made Yun He feel that something was off. She quickly spoke up to break the strange atmosphere between them. “Senior Sister, why don’t I help Little Junior Sister change?”
“No need. I can do it,” Mo Xiao chuckled lightly, then squatted down. “Come, give me your clothes.”
“Here.” Zuo Wuyi, not to be outdone, took out her clothes. She didn’t believe Mo Xiao would do anything to her.
Mo Xiao indeed did nothing. She took Zuo Wuyi’s clothes, properly removed her outer robe embroidered with the sect’s emblem, then helped Zuo Wuyi put on the casual outer robe, and finally carefully arranged her belt and collar.
“Alright,” Mo Xiao stood up and casually brushed the dust off the corner of her robe.
“Thank you, Senior Sister,” Zuo Wuyi thanked her obediently.
Yun He stood to the side, looking completely out of the loop. Did something happen between Senior Sister and Little Junior Sister that I don’t know about? How did they become so familiar that they can help each other change clothes?
After a short rest, it was time for the secret realm to open. According to the information from their master, each person could stay inside for a maximum of ten days after entering. Once the time was up, whether you were dead or alive, you would be thrown out by the secret realm.
Upon entering the secret realm, Mo Xiao could clearly feel the concentration of spiritual energy in the surroundings increase. At the same time, she also sensed a dangerous presence approaching and immediately drew her sword, swinging it towards her side.
“Roar—” A huge roar echoed in Mo Xiao’s ears. A black panther, about four meters tall, was knocked back by the sword qi Mo Xiao had unleashed.
“Senior Sister, be careful!” Yun He followed suit, drawing her sword and blocking a black panther charging from another direction. This panther was slightly smaller, about three meters tall.
Mo Xiao gripped her sword and shielded Zuo Wuyi with her body. “Be careful. These two panthers are both Golden Core stage demonic beasts.”
“Mhm.” The expression on Yun He’s face also became solemn. Seeing that the panthers were about to attack again, she charged forward first.
“Stay here and don’t move,” Mo Xiao instructed, then quickly charged forward as well.
Although the two black panthers had the strength of the Golden Core stage, their intelligence was very limited. After fighting for less than the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, they couldn’t hold on any longer and were successively killed by Yun He.
“Phew, to encounter Golden Core stage demonic beasts right after coming in. Is our luck good or bad?” Yun He only breathed a sigh of relief after seeing that both panthers were dead.
“Go and take what’s useful, then we’ll leave this place,” Mo Xiao sheathed her sword and stood by Zuo Wuyi’s side. “Demonic beasts usually don’t travel alone. There should be many more nearby. Once the smell of blood spreads, it won’t be easy to leave.”
“Yes, Senior Sister,” Yun He replied.
With the sword in her hand, Yun He deftly dug out their most valuable inner cores. After cleaning them, she handed the larger one to Mo Xiao. “Senior Sister, this is your share.”
“No need. You can keep them all,” Mo Xiao said.
Yun He shook her head. “That won’t do. If Senior Sister hadn’t helped me block, I wouldn’t have been able to deal with two demonic beasts.”
“Then give me the other one.” Mo Xiao didn’t want to waste words on such a small matter.
“That works too.” Yun He readily handed the other inner core to Mo Xiao. Both inner cores were from Golden Core stage beasts, so the price difference was not significant.
Mo Xiao took the inner core, weighed it in her hand, and then casually handed it to Zuo Wuyi. “Keep it safe.”
“Huh?” Zuo Wuyi took the inner core in a daze. “Why are you giving it to me?”
“Isn’t this what you asked for?” Mo Xiao said, then spoke two sentences to Zuo Wuyi in a voice that was almost inaudible.
“From now on, you are not allowed to accept gifts from others. Even if you do, you must show them to me first.”
“Zuo Wuyi, you haven’t forgotten this, have you?”
