15. Sharing a Bed
The expected pain did not arrive. Just as the sword strike was about to hit Zuo Wuyi, the jade pendant hanging on her chest glowed faintly, quickly forming a defensive wall around her. While resisting the attack from cultivator number two, it also sent him flying.
“A spiritual energy shield?” Cultivator number one’s face darkened. He used his full strength to send a sword qi strike towards the shield. When he found that the shield did not move at all, his expression grew even worse.
“Cough, cough, this is not good,” cultivator number two got up from the ground, wiping the blood that had trickled from the corner of his mouth. “Senior Brother, let’s go quickly. I’m worried this little girl’s sect mates are nearby.”
“I know,” cultivator number one swung his sword again, unwilling to give up, but it still did not cause the slightest damage to the shield.
“Let’s go,” cultivator number one’s voice was full of reluctance, but he had no other choice. This shield was not something they, at the Foundation Establishment stage, could break. If they didn’t leave, they would be in trouble when this little girl’s sect mates arrived.
Just as the two cultivators were about to turn and run, another dense fog appeared, followed by a loud rumble. Many black iron fragments flew out from the fog, one of which coincidentally hit cultivator number one, causing him to spit out a mouthful of blood and fly back several meters before collapsing on the ground.
Mo Xiao had been studying the formation for a long time. Just as she had finally figured something out, she sensed that the defensive artifact she had given to Zuo Wuyi had been triggered. She had no time to think. In her urgency, she directly consumed an elixir that temporarily boosted her strength, then used her divine sense to lock onto the location of the defensive artifact.
Fortunately, the distance between them was not very far. Mo Xiao was able to use her half-baked teleportation technique, appearing near Zuo Wuyi at the same time as she violently shattered the black iron gate.
“Wuyi?” Mo Xiao immediately locked onto Zuo Wuyi’s position. Seeing that the shield was still intact, she breathed a sigh of relief. “Are you alright?”
Zuo Wuyi shook her head. “The shield appeared before they could hit me.”
“That’s good.” Mo Xiao waved her hand to dismiss the shield, then turned to look at the two Foundation Establishment cultivators. “These two were planning to attack you?”
“They probably saw that my cultivation was low and wanted to kill me for my treasures,” Zuo Wuyi said, then paused and added, “They know I’m a disciple of the Wen Dao Sect.”
“My fault,” Mo Xiao said, tightening her grip on her sword and walking directly towards the two cultivators.
“Fellow Daoist, this is a misunderstanding, fellow Daoist!” Cultivator number two supported cultivator number one, a look of terror on his face. “We didn’t do anything to your junior sister. We just wanted to ask for directions. This is all a misunderstanding.”
Mo Xiao was unmoved. She knew very well why the shield had been triggered. These two must have had killing intent. Since they had killing intent, she would not show mercy. After all, there was a rule here that cultivators could not actively attack ordinary people, but there was no rule against attacking other cultivators.
“You are cultivators of the Wen Dao Sect, aren’t you? Isn’t the Wen Dao Sect dedicated to eliminating demons and defending the righteous path? Why are you pointing your sharp swords at us ordinary cultivators now!” Seeing Mo Xiao getting closer and closer, cultivator number two began to tremble as he spoke. “Isn’t your Wen Dao Sect known as the leader of the righteous sects? How can you attack us bottom-tier cultivators!”
By this time, Mo Xiao had already walked in front of the two of them, stopping at a distance of about one meter. “You’re not wrong. The Wen Dao Sect is indeed a righteous sect. I don’t have to kill you.”
“Thank you, fellow Daoist, for sparing our lives!” The two cultivators were overjoyed and were about to run, lest Mo Xiao change her mind.
“Wait,” Mo Xiao placed her sword on cultivator number two’s neck, blocking their path. “What I mean is, I don’t have to kill you. I can give you the chance to end your own lives.”
The two cultivators froze in place. Cultivator number two forced a smile. “Fellow Daoist, you must be joking. The fellow Daoists of the Wen Dao Sect have always been benevolent…”
“That’s right, we didn’t do anything to your junior sister. We are willing to give you all our possessions as compensation,” cultivator number one said, coughing twice and spitting out another mouthful of blood.
Mo Xiao said nothing, just moved her sword a little closer to cultivator number two’s neck, drawing a thin line of blood. “If you are unwilling to end your own lives, I can give you a hand.”
“You are bullying us with your power! If you kill us, you will be giving the Wen Dao…” Before cultivator number two could finish, Mo Xiao’s sword had already moved.
Compared to the hard black iron gate, their necks were as fragile as tofu, severed in an instant. As Mo Xiao struck, she cast an illusion spell on them to prevent the bloody scene from leaving any trauma on Zuo Wuyi.
As for Mo Xiao herself, she had lived for so long in her previous life. Although she hadn’t killed many people, it wasn’t as if she had killed none at all. She had long since accepted such bloody scenes.
After all, there were no laws or regulations here against killing, and no cultivator dared to say they had never killed before.
“Alright, let’s go.” Mo Xiao’s sword was not stained with any blood, but she still meticulously took out a clean handkerchief and wiped it several times before slowly returning it to its sheath.
Zuo Wuyi glanced at the sword in Mo Xiao’s hand, then looked up at her face. “Mo Xiao, you seem to have changed a little.”
“Mhm,” Mo Xiao nodded. “If a person lives without ever changing, that would be too boring.”
“That’s true,” The corners of Zuo Wuyi’s mouth slowly lifted, and she opened her arms. “I was scared just now. You carry me.”
Mo Xiao raised an eyebrow, put her sword into her storage space, and then picked Zuo Wuyi up with one arm.
“Which direction did you come from before?” Mo Xiao asked.
“I came from here, and then went this way,” Zuo Wuyi pointed out the direction. “I walked for about an hour. It was all flowers, grass, and trees along the way. I didn’t find anything special.”
“Alright,” Mo Xiao nodded and continued to advance in the direction Zuo Wuyi had pointed. If it was a secret realm within a secret realm, then its size should be limited.
Mo Xiao and Zuo Wuyi’s luck was pretty good. By the time the sky was about to turn dark, a stone gate appeared in their field of vision. Its material and height were the same as when they had entered, and it was surrounded by a mist that obscured their view.
“If we walk in, will we leave this secret realm, or will we enter a secret realm within a secret realm within a secret realm?” Zuo Wuyi said, feeling like she was about to confuse herself.
Mo Xiao did not answer Zuo Wuyi’s question. Instead, she stopped in front of the stone gate, squatted down, and put her down. “You stand here and don’t move. I’ll check the situation first.”
After suffering a loss once, Mo Xiao had become much more cautious. She first tentatively threw two sword qi strikes into the stone gate. Seeing no movement, she directly stood in the middle of the gate, letting half of her body pass through to confirm the situation on the other side.
“The spiritual energy concentration outside is a little lower than here, about the same as when we first came in. It should be the exit,” Mo Xiao sensed the spiritual energy concentration on both sides and came to a conclusion.
And so, in the first two days of entering the secret realm, Mo Xiao’s harvest was a Golden Core stage demonic beast inner core, and her loss was losing Yun He, temporarily losing contact with her.
Fortunately, Yun He was also a Golden Core stage sword cultivator. She might not be able to defeat anyone below the Nascent Soul stage, but she could definitely run away. So, Mo Xiao was not very worried. The worst-case scenario was that they would meet again after eight days when they left the secret realm.
Passing through the stone gate, the two of them indeed returned to the original secret realm. However, the surrounding environment was different. It was all bare mountains, looking a bit desolate, with no suitable place to spend the night.
In order to let Zuo Wuyi rest, Mo Xiao used the wood and demonic beast pelts from her storage space to make a simple tent.
“Mo Xiao, aren’t you going to sleep?” Zuo Wuyi lay obediently on the simple wooden bed.
“Mhm, I can just cultivate here,” Mo Xiao found a flat spot and skillfully sat cross-legged in meditation.
Zuo Wuyi squeezed her pillow. “Mo Xiao, I’m a little cold.”
“Cold?” Mo Xiao turned her head, thought for a moment, and then cast a spiritual energy barrier on Zuo Wuyi’s tent. “This should be able to block the wind. If you’re still cold, then we can add a fire.”
“…” Zuo Wuyi was silent for a moment, then translated her meaning directly. “Mo Xiao, I’m used to hugging something to sleep. I can’t fall asleep alone.”
“You want me to sleep with you?” Mo Xiao tilted her head slightly.
“Yes!” Zuo Wuyi answered with conviction.
Mo Xiao did not answer immediately. Instead, she got up from the ground, spent some time setting up some simple warning devices around them, and only then walked towards Zuo Wuyi.
“You sleep on the inside?” Mo Xiao squatted down and asked.
“No, I want to sleep on the outside,” Zuo Wuyi replied. If she slept on the inside, she might not even know if Mo Xiao left.
“Alright,” Mo Xiao nodded, took off her shoes and socks by the bed, then untied her belt and took off her outer robe, placing it aside. Seeing that Zuo Wuyi had made room, she lay down on the inner side.
Zuo Wuyi habitually wanted to hug Mo Xiao’s waist, but after putting her hand on it, she realized that her short little arms couldn’t wrap around Mo Xiao at all. At most, she could only rest her hand on her waist.
Before Zuo Wuyi could withdraw her hand and change her position, her small waist was encircled by Mo Xiao’s arm. “Sleep. Don’t move.”
Zuo Wuyi blinked in the darkness, hesitating for less than a second before rolling into Mo Xiao’s arms with the momentum.
Ah, that long-lost sense of security, and this relaxing and familiar scent~
What a pity she was still a child now. Otherwise, with such a good atmosphere, something interesting should have happened.
