Chapter 66
A wet hand emerged from the velvet quilt and clasped the young lady’s fair wrist.
Lin Shuxing frantically tried to push her back down.
But Fang Yi looked at her hazy, sparkling eyes, couldn’t help but let out a low laugh, and blocked her broken syllables with her lips.
Lin Shuxing watched as Fang Yi’s face drew closer from the darkness, the rich fragrance also surging up to envelop her. Their breaths mixed together.
All her senses were infinitely magnified at this tense moment. She could clearly feel her warm fingertips wandering, the hand on her waist slowly tightening. The lace skirt had long been pulled out of shape. She pried open her tongue.
“Mmm…!”
Lin Shuxing’s eyes widened. She had never thought that Fang Yi would be so bold. Her heart was beating faster than a drum on a spring wave, yet the feeling was even stronger. She could almost hear the sound of water dripping from her wrist.
Her face was so flushed it was almost bleeding. This feeling soon spread to Fang Yi’s cool cheeks along with their touching skin.
Fang Yi’s hand came up, her long, slender knuckles fair with a hint of red, and she patted her soothingly.
“Don’t be afraid. Don’t cry out,” the woman’s hoarse voice brushed past her earlobe, and she murmured, “I’ve locked the door.”
For safety, she had locked it twice when she had let the cat out just now.
Her suspended heart suddenly fell, accompanied by the slight sound of the tide receding. Lin Shuxing was angry out of shame and pinched Fang Yi’s face. “Why didn’t you say so sooner?!”
Lin Xinyou, outside the door, couldn’t open it. She paused and asked again with concern, “Baby, is it not convenient right now?”
“Say you’re taking a shower,” Fang Yi said, letting her pinch her face out of shape, her lowered voice also becoming muffled. “I’ll help you shower.”
“Mmm… I’m taking a shower.” Lin Shuxing’s empty head could only subconsciously follow her words.
“Alright, baby, don’t rush. Mom will go and make some more nourishing soup for you.”
Lin Xinyou’s voice gradually faded away.
“Annoying… was my voice loud just now? I wonder if she heard.”
Lin Shuxing leaned limply in Fang Yi’s arms, her slender eyebrows knitted together.
Because of her chronic illness, she didn’t have the habit of locking the door. She had just instructed the butler not to let anyone disturb her, but she hadn’t expected… if her mother had seen, it would have been too embarrassing!
“Not loud. It was very nice,” Fang Yi kissed her again and tucked the hair that was stuck to her cheek behind her ear. “Don’t worry. We’re legal.”
“…”
To suddenly bring up “legal” like this, Lin Shuxing was almost amused by Fang Yi’s unique way of thinking.
She even had the heart to praise it as “very nice!” Is that progress?
Lin Shuxing pinched Fang Yi’s face and, in retaliation, bit her sweat-beaded neck. “Let’s do something illegal, Teacher Fang.”
“Continue?” The woman’s obsidian eyes, washed by the water, lit up a little, but were then suppressed by her dull reason. After a cough, her voice regained a little of its reserve. “But Ms. Lin Xinyou…”
“You fool. You don’t even understand this. She said she’s going to make soup. She won’t be back for a few hours.”
“Then…” The woman was still a little hesitant.
“Fang Yi!” Lin Shuxing was a little angry. “Are you not capable?”
The woman’s lips touched and then pursed.
The next second, the young lady let out a small cry of surprise. Fang Yi had actually picked her up by the waist.
First the soldier, then the courtesy. The woman began to pretend to be noble and ask for instructions. “Let’s go to the pool. I’m worried you won’t be able to take it. It will be better with water.”
This time, she was unprepared. She had to be very restrained, for fear of hurting her.
The young lady’s waist had completely gone limp. The little strength she had left was only enough to wrap her arms around Fang Yi’s neck.
Her young lady’s temper hadn’t subsided at all. She kicked Fang Yi with her toes and said in a muffled voice, “You’re the one. Don’t let me look down on you.”
Fang Yi laughed and didn’t answer with words.
It took a little time to fill a pool of water. Lin Shuxing leaned against the begonia white porcelain tiles and watched as Fang Yi first took a shower. The steam covered her fine figure, but one could still see that heart-stirring, undulating curve.
Fang Yi did not take off the red hair tie on her wrist. It had long been wet. At this moment, she was rubbing it between her fingers, lathering it up, and carefully washing it clean.
The bow that the young lady had casually tied in the morning had not completely come undone.
It was just the most ordinary, bright red hair tie, yet the woman was carefully holding it in her palm, folding it in two, her thumb and index finger alternating, deep and shallow, rubbing out a pure white foam.
Her fingertips flicked lightly, and a crystal-clear bubble flew out from the closed outline, refracting a little rainbow halo, and floated to hit the glass.
Pop.
The bubble burst, leaving only a faint white water stain. Soon, a long, slender arm reached out from inside, scooped up a handful of water, and washed it clean.
Lin Shuxing was not ashamed of love. Just now, it had just been a moment of panic. But staring at Fang Yi’s long, slender knuckles as she washed the hair tie, her face suddenly turned red, even more exaggerated than before.
The tide rose and fell. The out-of-control young girl’s feelings were like the chaotic gravity of the moon.
She crossed her legs gracefully and suddenly felt that the bathroom was unbearably hot and humid.
When Fang Yi stepped out of the shower, she saw the young lady’s pearly teeth biting her swollen red lips, tears welling up in her upturned eyes, her chest rising and falling slightly. She didn’t move, just opened her arms, and her fluctuating tone scooped up a small silver spoonful from a honey pot, pulling out a lingering, sweet sugar thread.
“Hold—”
This sugar thread was sprinkled in the air and finally landed between Fang Yi’s lips and teeth.
She didn’t like sweets that much, but the honey brewed by the young lady was always different.
It covered her lips, wrapped around her heart, and finally drilled into her spinal cord. Even her hoarse voice couldn’t help but turn into a crispy candy, breaking apart.
“Alright.”
In this bathroom, Lin Shuxing had once bitten Fang Yi’s shoulder and trembled and cried.
In the moment when different clocks overlapped, she had cried again, but it was no longer because of sadness.
The tears were also sweet. They fell into the rippling water, and the little yellow duck that had fallen from the wall was pushed far away.
The young lady’s soft fingertips then caressed the winding scar on the back of Fang Yi’s waist and asked softly, “Does it hurt?”
“I don’t feel anything,” Fang Yi replied, guiding the young lady’s shifted gaze. “Don’t look. It’s not pretty.”
“What, are you afraid I’ll dislike you?” Lin Shuxing raised an eyebrow at her.
“…Yes.”
This belated “yes” made Lin Shuxing a little dazed. Fang Yi’s suddenly revealed vulnerability pressed heavily on her heart.
“How could I dislike you? I only regret not finding you sooner,” her other hand raised, and like a butterfly, it gently landed on the woman’s dark, lingering eyelashes, her voice muffled. “I didn’t protect you well.”
“No matter who bullied you, I won’t let a single one of them go.” A damp killing intent floated under the young lady’s gentle voice, but it soon fell again and disappeared into the water vapor.
“Then what if I bully others?” A hint of a smile appeared in Fang Yi’s voice.
The young lady whimpered and said decisively, “With your personality, you would bully others? Then it must be his fault in the first place. That’s not called bullying, that’s called carrying out justice for heaven.”
The smile on Fang Yi’s lips deepened, and she gently held her righteous indignation.
…
The red rope was soaked again. It floated on the surface of the water. After washing the young lady, Fang Yi washed this pitiful silk ribbon again.
Lin Shuxing was wrapped in a large bathrobe, her eyes half-closed, and she lazily commanded, “Press the second button on the wall. Let them come and change the sheets.”
“Otherwise, I’ll do it…”
After the high-intensity exercise, Fang Yi was still so energetic, which really surprised the young lady a little.
But her waist was sore and weak. She really couldn’t say any provocative words and could only raise an eyebrow. “Little consort, it’s not good to snatch someone else’s job.”
Fang Yi nodded in understanding, but she still simply dealt with it before calling a servant.
The butler personally appeared at the door. Her all-knowing expression made Fang Yi want to say something, and she explained, trying to cover it up, “The cat knocked over the water.”
The butler bowed and confirmed patiently, “You’re saying the cat knocked over the water, ran to my place, and after more than two hours, you reported it, is that right?”
“…”
Fang Yi glanced through the glass of the long corridor. The sky was already dark.
Fortunately, the butler didn’t really want her to answer. She smiled slightly and went to work diligently.
Fang Yi looked back and saw that the newly made bed had an extra layer of blanket. The young lady was buried in a pile of fluff, holding a little bear doll, her eyes lowered, looking exhausted, as if she were about to fall asleep.
During the time they had locked the door, Lin Lan had originally had someone prepare a guest room and had invited Lin Xinyou to stay as well.
She had held this family banquet to coax Lin Shuxing back. If Lin Xinyou stayed here, she thought Lin Shuxing would be happy.
But Lin Xinyou had declined, saying that she had already troubled the Lin family a lot. If she stayed any longer, she would be embarrassed. Besides, this place was too remote, and it was not convenient to go to the hospital to visit He Zhuang.
Everyone was a shrewd person. Lin Xinyou could also see that Lin Lan was slightly relieved after she had refused.
As long as it was love, no one would like to share it with others.
They were mature adults and should show their calm side.
Lin Lan was actually very similar to Lin Xinyou’s lover, calm, strong, and awkward. If she were still alive… she would also be proud of her daughter, right?
Lin Xinyou sighed softly and finally prayed that she could spend the last night with Lin Shuxing in the Lin family’s house.
Lin Lan readily agreed.
When Lin Shuxing was awakened by a special fragrance, she vaguely saw a shadow.
She rubbed her sore waist and, thinking it was a servant, said faintly:
“Just put it there. I’m not hungry yet.”
The woman nodded and obediently took a few steps back, quietly accompanying her.
The fragrance around her was intermittent. When she opened her eyes, half-asleep, she finally saw a familiar and warm silhouette.
“Mom…?”
“Baby, Mom is here.” Lin Xinyou replied gently. “Do you want to eat something?”
Lin Shuxing blinked and was completely awake.
Lin Xinyou had not left. She helped the young lady up, draped a coat over her, and brought the tray over.
On it were all of Lin Shuxing’s favorite dishes, a good balance of meat and vegetables, even more to Lin Shuxing’s taste than the special dishes prepared by the Lin family’s nutritionist.
Lin Shuxing swallowed, and Lin Xinyou understood. She scooped up a spoonful of her favorite dish, blew on it to cool it, and brought it to her lips.
It was like a dream.
Lin Shuxing called out uncertainly, “Mom.”
Lin Xinyou smiled and replied, “Baby.”
The food was steaming with white mist. It had been heated who knows how many times, just waiting for the young lady’s dream that might not wake up in the middle of the night.
The last night of companionship that Lin Xinyou had prayed for was originally planned for a heart-to-heart talk, but in fact, just looking at Lin Shuxing’s sleeping face made her feel satisfied from the bottom of her heart.
She couldn’t bear to wake her up.
Lin Shuxing’s appetite was not large, but under her mother’s expectant gaze, she still ate a little more than half a bowl.
Her stomach was warm, and happiness slid from her throat to her stomach, and her heart also warmed.
After eating, Lin Shuxing lay down again, and the woman wiped her mouth with a handkerchief.
“Do you like little bears?” Lin Xinyou smiled and picked one up, using her hand to make it dance around Lin Shuxing. “So cute.”
Lin Shuxing’s face turned red, and she nodded her chin.
Lin Xinyou sat on the edge of the bed and chatted with Lin Shuxing about many things in life. Finally, she changed the subject and asked softly if she was having a fight with Lin Lan.
Under the warm yellow light, the woman’s face was exceptionally gentle, and her eyes, looking at Lin Shuxing, were almost dripping with water.
She had seen all the small details at the dining table. Lin Shuxing was her daughter. Of course, she could sense her abnormality.
“People’s hearts are very complicated. Many people don’t express their love, but that doesn’t mean they don’t love.”
Lin Xinyou tucked Lin Shuxing in, looked at the young lady buried in the blanket, and her voice also became very soft.
“I can see that she also cares about you a lot. People all make mistakes. Sometimes, the higher a person stands, the more they dare not express their true emotions.”
“When a child grows up, the mother is also growing up. It may take a long time to find the most comfortable way for each other to get along.”
“After living together for so many years, this kind of family affection has long been imperceptibly engraved in all aspects. It is not just blood that connects people.”
She paused, coughed, and continued:
“When Xiao Wan had just left, I would always cry when I called her. I told her how much I missed her, because at that time, I thought that this would make her feel a little better.”
“But later I found out that I was crying on this side, and after I hung up, Xiao Wan would cry on that side.”
“At that time, she had just arrived in a strange environment, and I was still crying like that. The pressure on her at that time must have been great. She even had to comfort me in return.”
“People always mess up many things with their own wishful thinking.”
“We can’t all do our best. Looking back, we can’t change it. We can only hope for the future.”
Lin Xinyou’s rough hand slowly caressed Lin Shuxing’s cheek, her voice very soft. “Mom also makes mistakes.”
“But Mom is changing. Forgive Mom, okay?”
It was a double entendre. The “Mom” she was talking about referred to both herself and Lin Lan.
Fang Yi, who had come to deliver medicine outside the door, froze. She waved her raised hand twice, but in the end, she did not knock.
Her tall and slender figure stood in the corridor for a long time. Finally, with a heavy sigh, she took the medicine back to her own room.
Lin Xinyou was a smart person. Fang Yi had originally wanted to bring Lin Shuxing’s medicine in and let her notice what Lin Shuxing usually ate.
The Wen family’s genetic disease was not common. If Lin Xinyou had the heart to inquire, she should be able to easily find that there was something fishy.
But what could she do?
It would only add to the pain.
Fang Yi had a little insomnia. She simply took out her laptop and reorganized the project blueprint again, and sent it to Zong Heng.
It was already four in the morning. Zong Heng hadn’t replied, but the file showed that it had been received.
Seeing that she was still awake, Fang Yi was inexplicably relieved. She drank a glass of hot milk and lay down peacefully.
What Fang Yi didn’t know was that after her shadow had left the master bedroom, Lin Xinyou had suddenly mentioned her name to Lin Shuxing.
The two words “Fang Yi” were bitten between a mother’s teeth, her cold tone completely different from her gentle eyes.
The chaos in the room had long been cleaned up, and there was no trace of ambiguity. But as a mother, she could still smell that subtle scent that did not belong to her child.
But it was only for a moment. Before the young lady could look up, Lin Xinyou had already hidden her complex emotions in her eyes.
“Baby, Mom hopes you will be happy.”
