Chapter 155: How Smoothly I Love You
It had been a month since their last passionate kiss. Her body was unprecedentedly agile. Now, in this naked state, she could have continued, but Shen Yiyi had refused.
All of December, Qin Luo had been frequently traveling between Beijing and Xiamen. Her suitcase was almost never empty. She had met with many investors and clients and would return to the hotel late at night every day. If Shen Yiyi was on duty, she would give her a call, and the two would comfort each other on the phone. But just talking was a comfort to Qin Luo.
Perhaps it was because her parents had left the small town when she was a child, and her unfulfilled childhood was left with only herself. This had made Qin Luo not used to relying on others.
In the bustling conference rooms, in the swaying of the flights, in the night view outside the hotel window, as long as she thought of Shen Yiyi waiting for her to come home, when Shen Yiyi’s voice came from the phone’s earpiece, she could always be quiet for a few seconds. The string in her head that had been pulled taut would be recalibrated. Even if Shen Yiyi was busy with work and did not speak, she could feel a sense of peace.
Qin Luo could not describe that feeling: it was as if the lost and empty fragments in her body had been pieced together, and her tired soul was being gently stroked. She finally had no cracks, and her will was no longer weak. Could this be considered having a backup? She had often asked herself this question this month.
Even now that the passionate kiss was over, she could still feel that sense of peace.
“Continue.”
Shen Yiyi’s hand was on the edge of Qin Luo’s waistband. Her trousers were not yet off.
In front of the naughty little cat, Qin Luo could only raise a white flag. Her head could no longer hold a story, only her eyes, her fingers, her bad thoughts, her dissatisfaction, and her somewhat dry lips.
They all had to be eliminated.
Qin Luo did not know what to eliminate, but she always felt that there was a fire in her stomach, a restlessness that no one could put out. She held her in her arms again, pressing her naked skin against her, and kissed her passionately again.
The two were kissing in the cloakroom.
Her lips were wet, and a feeling of being drowned in wine swept over her. Then they stumbled and pushed open the door hidden in the cloakroom.
In the month that Qin Luo had not been at home, Shen Yiyi had been living in the identification center’s dorm. She would find some time on the weekends to clean up. Even if no one was sleeping, she would change the four-piece set, including this guest room.
Her wrist was held and pushed up. Shen Yiyi did not like this surrendering posture, especially since she was ticklish. Qin Luo’s breath swept over her shoulder and neck, as if in the next second, she would be forced to confess without even raising her hand. Just as she was about to speak, her knee was lifted. The natural and skilled movement made Shen Yiyi feel dissatisfied. In the gap between the kisses, she asked, “Why?”
“Hmm?”
Qin Luo was in a daze from the kiss and did not understand. “What?”
“You took them off so quickly.”
So skillfully, she had pushed open the space between her legs. The movement was so light that it was unsuspecting, but it had a strong sense of purpose. She had not even finished taking off her clothes, but her pants had been pulled down to her knees. “Have you practiced?”
She was very dissatisfied. How could Qin Luo be better at taking off a corpse’s clothes than she, a forensic pathologist?
Shen Yiyi was still a little awkward being manipulated. Her lower abdomen was tense and she was hiding backward, but she couldn’t escape the covering warmth. She was like a fish pushed into a warm current. It wasn’t until Qin Luo gently sat on her, pressing against her lower abdomen, that she instinctively opened her legs to welcome the other.
Her movements rose and fell with her breathing, lingering. Shen Yiyi watched her features in the dim light. The strange dreams she had had in her teens were replaying in front of her. Her slow butterfly movements were no longer a fantasy of sexual enlightenment, but a real, sleep-inducing experience. Their movements were slow, but in the intersection and grinding, their heartbeats were tightened and kneaded layer by layer, slowly grinding out a slight tremor.
Shen Yiyi rarely enjoyed her own body.
She had been very keen on physical education in elementary school, liked ball games with high agility, and loved to hear her pulse throbbing behind her ears. Even if she and her playmates bumped and fell to the ground, and wrestled savagely, she was not afraid of getting hurt. But ever since her mother had left, she had rarely engaged in intense activities. One was that she didn’t like to be in contact with people, and the other was that she didn’t want to have an accident. So she was cautious in everything she did, and even her emotional expression was always calm.
She had never believed that there was any inevitability in feelings. All intense fates were like an unwaxed floor, which would make people slip and fall easily.
But now she had to admit that love was good.
Qin Luo was like she had taken her life from her mother’s hands.
Shen Yiyi remembered that on the weekend before her business trip, it had been raining heavily in Shanghai and the temperature had dropped suddenly. She had been curled up on the sofa, watching the news, her feet on Qin Luo’s lap. Qin Luo had been looking down, carefully trimming her nails. Her gaze was only on her feet. Shen Yiyi had not been embarrassed at all and had accepted Qin Luo’s doting as a matter of course.
Sometimes she would wake up in the middle of the night, and Qin Luo would be working overtime and not yet asleep. The originally difficult second half of the night had actually made her a little secretly happy: Qin Luo was still here. She could still sleep for a while longer. She had begun to like the smaller moments, such as the nasal sound of Qin Luo’s voice when she was not yet awake.
“Do you like it?” Qin Luo suddenly asked her.
“I do.”
She had a richer dimension to her liking, which she would temporarily call not wanting to be separated from Qin Luo.
Qin Luo’s words were very dense, and she chattered on, “What do you like?”
“I like being high together.”
She did not like to be passively panicked, especially since Qin Luo always liked to observe her, and would even say a few words out of the blue. But now Qin Luo was moving on her, and she seemed to be enjoying it too. She would also let out a soft hum in the gaps of her speech.
Qin Luo had not originally intended to make such a big fuss. After all, she had been working day and night these past few days, and her stamina was a little lacking. But in the gap after they were done, she had asked Shen Yiyi how she was, and the other had stubbornly said it was okay, which had completely hooked Qin Luo. It was okay to be high together, and it was also okay to be high alone. Qin Luo felt that it was harder for her to get a compliment than to climb to the sky, so she had to muster all her strength. In the bathroom, she had held her waist and hips with one hand to help her arch up, and had used the other hand to work hard, until the shower could not extinguish the fierce fire that had risen from the friction, until Shen Yiyi could not stand the repeated, deep impact, and had held Qin Luo’s neck and had praised her for a long time before it was over.
“I haven’t finished my story yet.”
Shen Yiyi was curled up on her side, her hands on her lower abdomen, her whole body sore and swollen, her consciousness a little delirious. She only heard Qin Luo lying flat on her back, her tone quite energetic. “I’ll finish telling you before you go to sleep.”
“Go ahead.”
Although Shen Yiyi had already walked into a chaotic dream, Qin Luo’s murmurs in the darkness were like a power amplifier placed inside the dream space. The scenes were popping out, and every shot was a mess.
In her dream.
The woman was standing in the break room, observing the man in the conference room through the gap, who was looking at her from the glass window. His gaze was scorching, as if he had already recognized her.
Recognizing her meant recognizing her past, a life hidden in the shadows.
The woman seemed to be used to this kind of gaze, from head to toe, including her organs. Every part of her body would be watched by people of different roles. Now that her identity had been recognized, it was as if a crack had been made in her deepest armor. The woman was clearly embarrassed. She found it difficult to explain her situation to the man, why she had not yet left the vortex, even though she had been so hateful and desperate, and had still stayed in this cage—she had not been responsible for her own misery.
But she had no need to explain.
She knew that unless the man cut off his lower body, and then chiseled a channel in his lower body that was the same as hers, and endured menstrual cramps every month, and felt this gaze day and night, otherwise there would be no empathy between them. Even if he showed one hundred percent understanding, he would never have the same thought as her: to cut off the abdomen that was causing her pain. —And he would only worship his own body.
The more he worshiped, the more he would become a zombie of service. In these past few years, the woman had seen through this in other men.
In her dream.
The woman had made a deal.
What she wanted was freedom, money, and power. For these, even the life in her belly could become a bargaining chip. These were not things she had learned from her parents, her textbooks, or sociology, but from the various men she had seen. These people had taught her that what should determine the survival of a life should not be love, but survival. As long as she cut off her maternal instinct, she could become a person, not a “mother.” Of course, no one could say that she was vicious. After all, she was not the only one who could complete the act of sowing the seeds. She had used a fetus that should not have been born to gain trust, a more perfect trust, and even the trust of multiple people.
Was it that Qin Luo’s narration was too realistic? Shen Yiyi could feel that pain. She frowned in her dream and saw the woman’s world with her own eyes.
Still in her dream.
The woman was on the phone with her partner, saying that the plan was going well, and that she had decided to deal with the child in her belly as soon as possible. As she was talking, she had turned a corner, but when she had turned, she had seen a familiar man’s face.
“This face was very familiar to her.”
“Many of the difficult clients were handled by him. He was best at the black lawsuits and private mediations in the entertainment industry, so they had a lot of contact with each other. She was not sure if the man had heard her conversation with her partner, so she could only proceed with the plan step by step.”
“What she had not expected was that the man had come to her after her miscarriage.”
Shen Yiyi felt that Qin Luo’s voice was getting louder and louder, as if it were right by her ear, making it impossible for her to sleep. But her lower body was sore and numb, and it was very difficult for her to turn over. She slowly opened her eyes.
But just as she had become sober, Qin Luo’s voice had come to an abrupt halt.
Shen Yiyi asked, “Why did you stop?”
“I thought you were asleep.”
Qin Luo turned from lying flat to lying on her side, pressing against Shen Yiyi’s back, her arm holding the soft and warm little cat, and slowly rubbing her face against her back. After a long time, she said, “I want to know the ending.”
Shen Yiyi blinked. She knew what Qin Luo was asking.
“What did Liang Wei say to you?”
Qin Luo had been dawdling for a long time and had only thrown out half a sentence of “she didn’t say anything.”
Shen Yiyi was a little angry. She pushed away Qin Luo’s arm and twisted her body, trying to break free from her embrace. “Then don’t think about it. Go to sleep.”
A very subtle change in tone. Qin Luo could hear the difference in her tone. She held the other’s waist again, her body pressing even closer. “Why are you suddenly angry?”
Slap—
Shen Yiyi slapped Qin Luo’s forearm in the blanket, but she did not say anything.
Qin Luo quickly explained, “I talked to Liang Wei about Logos’s recent situation and told her that Liu Jia’s personal decision does not represent Logos. If she wants to use Shang Yi’s case to affect the company’s development, I can play along.”
At this, Qin Luo’s voice was weak. “Anyway, it can’t get any worse.”
Shen Yiyi: “And then?”
“She seems to have run into some trouble and is preparing to immigrate abroad with her family.” Qin Luo had not asked for details, but she had heard Liang Wei say so. “She asked me if I could wait for the procedures to be completed and have her transfer her shares to me. She wants to cut ties with the country completely.”
This was quite sudden for Qin Luo. A month ago, she had sworn to her that Her Kill would not withdraw its investment, and that Logos would not interfere at all. Now, she wanted to cash out and run. But Qin Luo was not surprised. Business was different every day.
“I want to discuss it with Liu Jia. When she’s a little better, I’ll have her find a way to take over the shares that Liang Wei has. That way, she’ll have more say in the company…”
Shen Yiyi interrupted her. “It’s your and your company’s decision.”
“Isn’t it because I’m afraid you’ll be unhappy?”
Shen Yiyi propped herself up and sat up. “Am I unhappy because of this?”
Qin Luo also sat up and at the same time, raised her hand and turned on the light. “Isn’t it because I’m afraid of making something out of nothing? Besides, you’re a police officer. I’ve told you everything. I… I…”
Halfway through, Qin Luo stammered, “Isn’t it normal for there to be a gap between the police and the public?”
“Hehehe.” Shen Yiyi sneered and kicked Qin Luo through the blanket. “The way you said you loved me in the bathroom was so smooth. This police-public gap seems so ridiculous.”
“I really love you.”
Qin Luo gathered in front of her, held up the two fingers she had used for moxibustion an hour ago, and swore to the light. “But your identity is indeed very awkward.”
Shen Yiyi did not hide her dissatisfaction and pushed Qin Luo away, walking out of the bedroom.
“Where are you going?”
“The story I just told you was really an inspiration. You can’t overthink it.”
“Are you hungry?”
“You shouldn’t eat cold things.”
Qin Luo followed behind her, watching Shen Yiyi take a bowl of cold porridge and stuff it into her mouth. She was so scared she quickly snatched the bowl and chopsticks. “You forgot about your appendectomy? Don’t you want your stomach anymore?”
At two in the middle of the night, the kitchen lights were on. Qin Luo, for some reason, had suddenly put on an apron and had poured the cold porridge back into the pot. When she had looked up, Shen Yiyi was lying on the sofa in a daze. She was holding a knife and was chopping scallions. Suddenly, she only heard the person on the sofa say calmly,
“Although the characters in a meta-novel know what they’ve done, they can never be sure if they have the power to choose. The words are created by the author, and the gaps are full of others’ shadows. It’s the narrator’s guidance, the structure’s calculation. The most subtle thing is not that she decided to do it, but that she happened to be a part of the story. Whether it was out of her own will or by the will of others, in the end, the greed of the executor is indispensable.”
“Deviation is a part of fate.”
“Some deviations can save people.”
Qin Luo poured the chopped scallions into the pot and watched the boiling and bubbling hot porridge. She smiled.
“Liang Wei also told me tonight that You Ning has found a lawyer for Li Peipei.”
“Heh.”
Shen Yiyi snorted coldly again. “I get angry just by talking about her.”
She was full of anger.
Shen Yiyi felt that her stomach was full.
“On what basis did you let me be alone with her?”
