Chapter 34: Braiding
=======================
He Jingsu was stunned by her own thought.
If she was secretly laughing, why was she secretly laughing?
“Beibei, what are you laughing at?” He Jingsu asked, a little puzzled.
Bei Queting lowered her gaze to meet her dark, shiny eyes and let out a low laugh. “I was just thinking about what you were like when you were learning to fly.”
He Jingsu was speechless.
She arched her body and turned her back to Bei Queting, holding her baby bottle and drinking sullenly. Even her back exuded a sense of being too ashamed to face anyone.
Bei Queting laughed silently. Looking at the panda cub with her back to her, her two small white wings were exposed. She reached out and touched them. Not only was Daidai’s body growing slowly, but even these two small wings were extremely slow. She didn’t know how long it would take for them to grow into large wings like He Ying’s.
He Jingsu didn’t hear her voice anymore, but she still felt extremely awkward. When she was learning to fly, she had lost so much face as a demon!
No matter what, she still had her pride!
He Jingsu silently sipped her milk, the pair of wings on her back trembling slightly, as if recalling some unbearable memories from the past.
Bei Queting saw her like this and didn’t tease her anymore. Her hand gently stroked her, making her comfortable.
The cub wriggled and moved closer to her, touching her leg. The meaning was self-evident.
Bei Queting picked her up and held her in her arms, her expression softening.
That night, she had a good dream as usual.
Time passed quickly, and they welcomed their final exams. The difficulty of the final exams was very easy for them. After the exams, they basically didn’t worry about their grades. And class 16’s grades had improved by a large margin this time. They were all wondering if it was Bei Queting’s contribution.
But after the final exams, one person was not happy.
Hai Yuesheng had to stay at school for remedial classes.
Qiu Si looked at the worried Hai Yuesheng, as if she were seeing her true form, a sea otter who had had all its toys taken away.
“Alright, we’re going to work during the winter break. If you’re free, you can come and visit.”
“Winter break job?!” Hai Yuesheng’s eyes instantly lit up. She nodded repeatedly and said, “Then tell me the address. I’ll come and see you then!”
He Jingsu looked at them, her little face wrinkled, but in the end, she didn’t say much more.
Because both of their grades were still good.
Bei Queting let out a low laugh. After saying goodbye to Qiu Si and the others, she took He Jingsu home. To celebrate their official holiday, He Ying had made a lot of delicious food at home.
The moment He Jingsu returned, it was as if she had come to life, like a bee in a sea of blooming flowers. She was so happy she was almost lost.
“Mom, Mommy, I love you!” He Jingsu’s mouth was incredibly sweet.
Jing Dan looked up at her and waved her over.
He Jingsu obediently walked over to her, her eyes wide and bewildered, not knowing why she had been summoned.
Jing Dan reached out and pinched her face hard, then her face broke into a smile, leaving two red fingerprints. She teleported and disappeared from in front of her.
He Jingsu, whose face had been suddenly pinched, was stunned. Then she reached up and touched her face, her eyebrows drooping completely. She went to find Bei Queting, aggrieved, and buried her face in her arms, complaining, “Mommy is not good at all!”
She just bullied her!
Bei Queting held her and couldn’t help but let out a low laugh, but she didn’t dare to make a sound for He Jingsu to hear. When she had seen Jing Dan wave her over earlier, she had noticed the mischievous smile on her face. She didn’t need to guess to know that He Jingsu was going to suffer.
He Ying looked at Jing Dan, who had teleported to the kitchen, and also reached out and pinched her cheek, chiding, “You just know how to bully the little cub.”
Jing Dan blinked innocently, lowered her gaze to the hand that was pinching her, and huffed softly. “Then you’re bullying me too!”
She pinched the little cub = bullying.
He Ying pinched her, of course, also = bullying!
He Ying was speechless. Did she use any force?
She let go of her hand and kissed the spot she had pinched. Then she saw Jing Dan squint and smile.
She also couldn’t help but laugh.
After all the food was ready, Madam He Yuan also came over. She washed her hands, took a bite of a dish, and after tasting it, said, “Not bad.”
She probably relied on this cooking skill to trick her gluttonous wife back then.
Hearing her mother’s praise, He Ying also wanted to laugh. This person had put on a front in front of her for so many years. Now, even after more than ten years, this front couldn’t be removed in a short time.
“Grandma, it’s very good!” He Jingsu corrected her with a serious expression.
He Yuan glanced at her. How did she not know she was such a chatterbox before? Did anyone treat her as a mute if she didn’t speak?
“Oh.”
He Jingsu blinked. Hearing her obviously perfunctory reply, did she say something wrong?
Bei Queting let out a low laugh and gave her a piece of food to distract her.
He Jingsu ate the food that Bei Queting had given her and, sure enough, no longer dwelled on the previous matter.
After the family finished dinner, they were going to start their winter break job at their grandaunt’s place tomorrow. Of course, they had to have a good night’s sleep tonight!
But although they said they were going to sleep early, He Jingsu was not sleepy when she returned to her room. After she came out of the shower, she transformed into her true form and sat on the bed, a comic book in front of her, reading with great interest.
When Bei Queting came out of the shower, she saw her little rice ball form. Even though she saw this scene often, she was still captivated by her cuteness every time.
She went up and, looking at the tuft of fur on the cub’s head, a thoughtful look appeared in her eyes.
Seeing her get into bed, He Jingsu wriggled over to sit next to her leg, then her paw turned a page and continued to read.
Bei Queting thought of something, opened the bedside table, and took out a small disposable rubber band. Then she sat behind He Jingsu and began to play with her tuft of fur.
Although He Jingsu didn’t know what she was doing, she still let her do as she pleased. When she saw an exciting part of the comic, her eyes lit up.
Bei Queting tried her best to suppress her smile, her hands moving nimbly. Not long after, she tied it with the hair tie she had just taken, and then she could see that He Jingsu’s tuft of fur had been braided into a pigtail.
She pressed her lips together and smiled, took out her phone, and took several pictures, then showed them to He Jingsu.
He Jingsu saw herself on the screen, the tuft of fur on her head tied up, and was stunned.
“Daidai, does it not look good?” Bei Queting asked, holding back her laughter.
He Jingsu looked at it carefully. It was a little strange, but the braid was a little pretty!
In the end, she nodded. “It’s pretty!”
She was never ugly!
Thinking of this, she instantly became proud. She used Bei Queting’s phone to send the picture to the family group chat, then sent a voice message.
“I’m pretty, right!” Her little tone was indescribably proud.
The others in the family group chat saw her picture and were speechless.
The pandas without a tuft of fur were the first to breathe a sigh of relief. It was because of this one that the group chat was now filled with many of their stickers! If they were also braided, they would have no face left!
“Pretty, very cute!” After not having to worry about being braided and photographed themselves, they had a more appreciative look.
Seeing that everyone in the group was praising her, but there was no praise from her mommy, He Jingsu was a little puzzled. She tagged her mommy, Jing Dan: Mommy, is it not pretty? Why aren’t you praising me?
Her little tone was a little disappointed, making others wonder who could be so heartless as to not praise her.
Jing Dan, who had been tagged, was speechless.
She put down her phone and ignored the little cub, looking at He Ying with a wary gaze, her face full of refusal. “Don’t even think about it!”
She would never let her braid her hair!
Seeing that Jing Dan was really unwilling, He Ying sighed and gave up. Braids were so cute. Why hadn’t she thought of it before?
He Jingsu didn’t know that her actions had almost dragged her mommy down with her. At this moment, she was flipping through the pictures that Bei Queting had taken of her, looking very happy.
Bei Queting looked at her, both amused and helpless. She ruffled her head and said, “Aren’t you going to sleep yet?”
“Mmm, I’ll look at it one more time!” He Jingsu’s gaze never left the screen. Even the comic book beside her couldn’t attract her attention. She found that Beibei had taken super cute pictures of her!
Bei Queting really did wait by her side and watched her finish looking at it once. When she was about to flip through it a second time, she reached out, took the phone from under her nose, turned off the screen, and held her up. “It’s time to sleep. Otherwise, you won’t be able to get up tomorrow.”
He Jingsu was speechless. “…Oh.”
A little reluctantly.
Bei Queting turned off the light and raised an eyebrow in the darkness. This cub was so narcissistic that she was willing to sacrifice her sleep time.
The next morning, Bei Queting held the cub and went downstairs. Seeing Jing Dan wave, she handed the cub to her, then went into the kitchen herself to learn how to make breakfast with He Ying.
Now that it was vacation, she could have more time to learn. That way, the things she made should taste better and better, right?
But after breakfast, they were officially going to work at Bei Yuan’s place. When they arrived at Bei Yuan’s coffee shop, Qiu Si and Jing Jiu had also arrived. They were currently changing into the work clothes that Bei Yuan had prepared for them…
Bei Queting looked at the work clothes that Bei Yuan had prepared and strongly suspected that she had done it on purpose.
Deliberately acting cute!
Because the work clothes she had prepared actually had two black panda ears! And the apron was also covered in drawings of panda cubs surrounded by mountains of bamboo shoots and seas of milk! Who wouldn’t feel their heart soften at the sight?
Bei Yuan saw that they had also arrived, and the smile on her face grew even brighter. She had prepared these things just for these little cubs.
He Jingsu held her uniform and looked at the pair of panda ears carefully, then looked at Si Si. “Si Si, do you still need to wear this?”
Si Si already had two such ears! They were especially cute!
Qiu Si looked a little embarrassed. “I still have to wear them. What if someone finds out?”
He Jingsu looked a little regretful. If Si Si showed her ears, she could pinch them and play with them!
“Big sister, hurry up and change. We’re about to open for business,” Jing Jiu said very seriously.
He Jingsu quickly nodded. It was winter, and she was wearing a lot of clothes. She took off one layer and there was still another underneath, so she didn’t go into a separate room and just changed there.
But when she was tying her apron, He Jingsu put her hands behind her back to tie it, and a pair of hands reached over and took the straps from her.
He Jingsu turned to see that it was Bei Queting, and she immediately smiled.
Since Bei Queting had helped her tie it, of course, she had to help her tie it too! He Jingsu’s little face was tense as she seriously helped her tie her apron. After she was done, a proud look appeared on her face.
The one she had tied was the best!
Bei Yuan looked at their close relationship, a motherly smile on her face. She had watched these children grow up and also treated them as her own.
After they went downstairs and opened for business, they followed Bei Yuan’s instructions and began to wipe the tables with a towel, preparing for the official opening.
Early in the morning, few people came for coffee. After they were done, they gathered around the counter, waiting for Bei Yuan’s feeding.
Because of their arrival, Bei Yuan had specially made many of their favorite desserts. Seeing them eat with their eyes curved into crescents, she also laughed happily.
This coffee shop was not opened for profit, but because Bei Yuan wanted to find something to do. Now, with these little cubs to keep her company, she was even happier.
After eating the desserts and having nothing to do, they gathered together to play a game.
With five people, they decided to play “Who is the Spy.” The loser would have a strip of paper stuck on their face.
When it came to games, He Jingsu was an expert.
After a few rounds of the game, apart from herself, everyone else had at least one strip of paper on their face. Only He Jingsu’s little face was clean and arrogant!
“Big sister, let me win~” Jing Jiu whined, her voice drawn out. How could this be! They couldn’t even beat her when they teamed up!
“How can you let someone win in a game!” He Jingsu’s little face was tense as she said with a serious expression.
Jing Jiu fell to the side and into Qiu Si’s arms, crying, “Big sister, you help me get my revenge.”
Qiu Si lifted the strip of paper in front of her and said very seriously, “It’s my fault for being useless, big sister. I can’t get it back.”
Bei Yuan watched the antics of these little cubs and laughed so hard her eyes curved into crescents. Just as she was about to speak, the bell at the door suddenly rang. She quickly stood up, took off the strip of paper on her face, and went to greet the customer.
When the customer came in, they naturally saw what they were doing. They looked at He Jingsu and the others, their gaze lingering on Jing Jiu for a few seconds, then at Bei Yuan, and asked hesitantly, “Boss, they’re not of age, are they? Child labor is illegal.”
Bei Yuan’s eyebrows curved into a smile, and she said proudly, “They’re all our own children. They’re here to play during the holidays and help out a little.”
The customer was relieved to hear this and exclaimed, “Your children are so cute.”
Was everyone in this family so good-looking?
Bei Yuan smiled and took out a menu. “What would you like to drink?”
On the other side, He Jingsu and the others felt it was inconvenient to continue playing with a customer present, so they packed up and pretended to be proper staff.
“By the way, do you have any more of those ears? I’d like to buy a few,” the customer said, her cheeks slightly red, looking rather shy.
Hearing that someone liked them, Bei Yuan, as if she had found a kindred spirit, excitedly went to get a few and said directly, “They’re a gift!”
Bei Queting looked at Bei Yuan’s excited expression and felt she had reason to suspect that Huai Sheng had been able to pursue Bei Yuan because her panda form had contributed a lot.
Around noon, even Madam He came over. The coffee shop was suddenly much livelier than usual.
“Big sister.” Bei Yuan looked at He Yuan with a look of admiration, very close to her.
“Mhm.” He Yuan ruffled her head, then looked at the other little cubs and raised an eyebrow. “You haven’t been bullying your grandaunt, have you?”
He Jingsu’s face was serious. “Grandma, you’re the one bullying Grandaunt now. Look, you’ve messed up her hair!”
He Yuan was speechless.
Bei Yuan was both shy and embarrassed. “Daidai, I like it when big sister ruffles my head.”
Bei Queting found it amusing and pulled He Jingsu over. Looking at the top of her head, she also wanted to ruffle it.
Since it was almost noon, of course, they would eat at Bei Yuan’s place. When she went into the kitchen, she didn’t let anyone else in. The others, with nothing to do, went out for a walk.
It was quite cold in winter, but even in such cold weather, many people came out to set up stalls to sell things for a living.
As He Jingsu passed a three-wheeled truck parked on the side of the road, she couldn’t move, her gaze fixed on the things in the truck.
Bamboo shoots, tender bamboo shoots, all were tender winter bamboo shoots!
