Chapter 8: Confiscation
====================
With Bei Queting’s explanation, He Jingsu finally understood the two problems she had gotten wrong. At the same time, she learned many ways to avoid the traps set by the test makers.
“Go back now. Don’t rush around so much,” Bei Queting said softly. Every time she saw He Jingsu hurry over and then hurry back, she felt an indescribable flutter in her heart at the sight of her running toward her, but also worried that she would be uncomfortable if she sweated from all the running.
“Mhm, mhm!” she replied, but her feet didn’t move. She had spotted the sketchbook on Bei Queting’s desk, which was identical to her own.
“Can I take a look?” He Jingsu asked with pleading eyes.
Bei Queting followed her gaze and remembered the drawing she had made of her that morning. Her ears grew slightly warm, but seeing He Jingsu’s expression, she nodded.
He Jingsu beamed and picked up the sketchbook, flipping through it. Inside were many drawings of scenery that Bei Queting found beautiful, but most of them were of the panda cub with two wings. Seeing the panda cub made He Jingsu even happier. She pointed to the panda’s head and said, “There’s a little fluffy bird missing here. Remember to draw it in next time!”
Hearing this, Bei Queting pressed her lips together, lowered her gaze, and hummed a soft agreement.
The panda cub in front of her never seemed to mind her perching on her head.
When the class bell rang, He Jingsu rushed back to her classroom. Bei Queting watched her retreating figure, her expression softening. It seemed that, all this time, it was always He Jingsu who took care of her more.
Xia Mu watched from the side, growing more and more confused. Even for childhood sweethearts, was it necessary to be this clingy?
Back in her classroom, He Jingsu took out her own sketchbook. It was filled with drawings of Bei Queting, both in her human and true forms. The image of a dazed, cute little fluffy bird would, with the turn of a page, transform into a slender teenage girl.
He Jingsu traced the little fluffy bird in the sketchbook. Although it was smooth paper, she felt as if she could touch its soft, downy feathers. She had felt that texture so many times that it was deeply ingrained in her memory.
She didn’t hide the sketchbook from Qiu Si, who naturally saw the drawings inside. A thoughtful look appeared in her eyes. Maybe I can also record my little sister’s growth through drawing and give it to her when she grows up?
But her drawings weren’t as good as Daidai’s.
From the moment He Jingsu started drawing, she had shown astonishing talent. Her interest in art was also very strong, and she intended to pursue it as a career. He Ying and the others were, of course, supportive.
As long as it wasn’t murder or arson, He Ying and her family would unconditionally support whatever their child liked.
He Jingsu closed the sketchbook before the teacher came in and carefully placed it in her drawer, treasuring it.
The next class was Chinese, a subject that allowed He Jingsu to relax. She loved Chinese class the most. The beauty of the words often constructed vivid images in her mind, sparking a great deal of inspiration.
When class ended for lunch, He Jingsu didn’t rush to leave. She sat quietly, waiting for Bei Queting to come find her. Qiu Si also dawdled, her movements much slower than usual.
The first to arrive was Bei Queting, followed closely by Hai Yuesheng, who had rushed over from another building. Seeing that Qiu Si hadn’t left, she breathed a sigh of relief and broke into a wide smile.
“We’re not going to eat just yet. We have something to take care of,” Bei Queting said to Qiu Si and the others.
Qiu Si was stunned for a moment, then nodded. She was pulled away by a cheerful Hai Yuesheng.
Watching the two of them leave, Bei Queting felt a little helpless. She had originally wanted to invite Qiu Si to go home with them for lunch, but seeing how clingy Hai Yuesheng was, it was unlikely Qiu Si would be able to shake her off.
“Let’s go home,” He Jingsu said, taking Bei Queting’s hand, her eyes full of excitement.
She could finally avoid the cafeteria food!
“Mhm.” Bei Queting smiled gently at her.
The two found a secluded spot and teleported home. The moment they appeared, they were greeted by the appetizing aroma of food. Looking up, they could see two tall women in the kitchen. One was occasionally feeding the other under the guise of taste-testing, creating a beautiful atmosphere.
“Mom, Mommy!” He Jingsu’s voice broke the quiet, intimate mood. She poked her head in, her usually dazed face full of joy, her eyes sparkling as she looked at the beautifully colored ribs in the pot.
He Ying reached out and ruffled her head, then looked at Bei Queting who had walked in behind her. “You’re back so soon. We’ll be eating in a bit,” she said with a light laugh.
When she received their call last night saying they were coming home for lunch, He Ying had found it amusing. It must have been her picky little cub who was craving her cooking.
Jing Dan was still chewing on a rib that He Ying had just fed her. She turned her face and worked her jaw for a moment before spitting out the bone, finally able to speak.
“You don’t get any milk today.”
The simple sentence made He Jingsu freeze completely. She had come back today not only for her mom’s cooking but also for the milk her mom made!
“Why?” He Jingsu’s face fell, looking wronged.
Jing Dan reached out and pinched her little cub’s cheek, tilting her head. “Because a certain demon wasn’t a good student last night.” Then, she looked at Bei Queting, her smile widening. “You don’t get any milk either!”
That way, she could have a double portion!
He Jingsu and Bei Queting were both stunned. So they were in the bamboo forest below us last night?
He Ying, watching from the side, found it amusing. She ushered the two little cubs out of the kitchen. “Go wait outside. The food will be ready soon.”
He Jingsu, pushed out of the kitchen, looked like a salted fish that had lost its dreams. She rested her head on Bei Queting’s collarbone and said in a low voice, “No milk…”
How could this be!
Bei Queting ruffled her head, feeling a little guilty. “It’s all my fault for taking you out.”
He Jingsu quickly shook her head. “No, it’s not! I wanted to go out myself!”
If she didn’t want to go, no one could make her.
She pulled Bei Queting into the living room, away from He Ying and the others’ hearing, and whispered, “Next time we go out, let’s not pick that spot.”
Hearing this, Bei Queting wanted to laugh. She also lowered her voice. “Daidai doesn’t want to be a good student anymore?”
He Jingsu blinked innocently and continued to whisper, “We don’t go out often, and it doesn’t affect our studies!”
Her mommy hadn’t even scolded them, which clearly meant she didn’t think it was a big deal. More logically, she probably felt they knew their limits.
As for her mommy docking their milk, hmph, it was definitely because she wanted to line her own pockets!
Bei Queting pressed her lips together and smiled, not saying anything in opposition.
Later, they got up, washed their hands in the kitchen, and helped bring the dishes to the dining table, setting out the bowls and chopsticks. The table was filled with all their favorite foods.
Strangely enough, the four demons had surprisingly similar tastes. Many of the dishes were favorites they all shared, which saved the cook a lot of trouble.
He Jingsu ate her mom’s cooking with satisfaction. It was a hundred times better than the cafeteria food!
Seeing He Jingsu eat so happily, a thoughtful look appeared in Bei Queting’s eyes.
“By the way, in two months, your grandaunt is getting married. She wants to invite you to be part of the wedding procession. What do you think?” He Ying remembered this and asked for their opinion.
“Grandaunt is finally getting married?!” He Jingsu’s eyes instantly lit up. Her grandaunt and Huai Sheng had been dating for many years!
“Yes,” He Ying nodded. She also felt like laughing. That Huai Sheng had been so slow in pursuing Bei Yuan that even the onlookers wanted to crack a whip to make her hurry up.
“Yes, yes!” He Jingsu quickly agreed. Bei Queting, beside her, also nodded.
Seeing that they both agreed, He Ying smiled softly. That Huai Sheng was full of little tricks. Was she worried Bei Yuan would call off the wedding? Not only had she invited these two little cubs to the wedding procession, but she had also invited the Qiu Si sisters. Bei Yuan adored these children and got along with them very well. Was she counting on Bei Yuan getting dizzy at the sight of these little cubs and just following them along?
“Okay, I’ll ask for leave from your homeroom teachers in advance then.”
Jing Dan looked thoughtful. “So, it looks like Huai Sheng really won’t be in the same generation as me anymore.”
She would suddenly become her elder!
“It’s okay, you still have Hu Tu to keep you company,” He Ying said, comforting herself as well. When she got together with Jing Dan, her own seniority had also plummeted.
“Mmm, that’s true!” Jing Dan nodded in agreement.
“And now she’s the only single one left.”
He Jingsu and the others listened to their mothers’ conversation, not very interested in matters of seniority. Since they were home, they were going to eat their fill!
After the meal, the four of them cleared the table together. He Ying had portioned the food perfectly, so there were almost no leftovers. Putting the dishes in the dishwasher saved them another step.
While Jing Dan was on the sofa watching TV, holding He Jingsu who had transformed back into her true form, Bei Queting walked over to He Ying, bit her lip, and said, “Aunt He, can you teach me how to make the milk that Daidai likes?”
If I learn, I can make it for Daidai at school, right?

Author’s Note:
I’m getting dizzy from all the seniority issues myself, save me (crying with face in hands).
