Chapter 113 p2
The light in the car wasn’t very bright, but Li Wan was still stunned at the sight of it,
if she wasn’t mistaken, this was…
Before she could speak, Shen Yiqiu opened the box, revealing a platinum ring, a simple yet classic design,
“I bought it with my scholarship money, I wanted to surprise Jiejie.” She spoke as if already imagining the proposal scene.
Li Wan’s gaze shifted from the ring, “So, what do you need my help with?”
You’re not asking me to help you propose, are you?
Shen Yiqiu’s expression turned slightly troubled, “I was so happy when I bought it, but then I thought, is it… too simple? Jiejie deserves something better.”
Li Wan smiled and asked, “Then what do you think would be suitable for her?”
Shen Yiqiu’s eyes sparkled, and she said, “Something big and shiny, a dazzling diamond ring.” She gestured with her hands, indicating an exaggerated size, then her expression dimmed slightly, “But for now, this is all I can afford.”
Li Wan didn’t know what to say, Shen Yiqiu buying a ring was unexpected, yet also understandable, as for the size, Qin Qianrou wouldn’t mind,
“You should let your Jiejie tell you herself, but if you’re asking for my opinion, I think this one is beautiful, and it would suit her perfectly.”
Shen Yiqiu’s face brightened, encouraged by her words.
Just as she put the ring back in her bag, a sharp pain shot through her chest,
she instinctively clutched her chest, her body freezing, the familiar sensation,
Li Wan had thought she was about to get out of the car, but seeing her sudden stillness, her pale face, she asked, worried, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell from the alcohol?”
Shen Yiqiu closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, the intense pain in her chest undeniable, something bad was happening again.
She didn’t respond to Li Wan but leaned her head against the headrest, closing her eyes, trying to decipher the blurry images in her mind,
then, she suddenly opened her eyes, her expression a mix of terror and disbelief,
Li Wan was startled by her sudden reaction. “What’s wrong with you?”
Tears streamed down Shen Yiqiu’s face as she exclaimed frantically, “Drive! We have to go find Jiejie!”
Li Wan hadn’t even had a chance to tell her that Qin Qianrou had gone to Yancheng that evening, she had said she would call Shen Yiqiu when she got home,
“Qianrou went to Yancheng, she took the evening flight.”
Shen Yiqiu’s panic intensified, her hands trembling, she couldn’t stay in the car a moment longer.
“Then… then I have to go to the airport, I have to find her.”
Her frantic demeanor, her obvious distress, made Li Wan feel incredibly uneasy, and she grabbed Shen Yiqiu’s wrist, “Tell me what happened, what did you see?”
Shen Yiqiu, her breath coming in ragged gasps, looked at her, her voice trembling, “I saw… the car Jiejie was in, hit by a rockslide.”
**
Wen Yirong, after Qin Qianrou’s decision to go to Yancheng, had used her connections to arrange for a private jet. And as she was disembarking, she received a call from Shen Yiqiu.
“Are you sure?” Wen Yirong wasn’t familiar with Shen Yiqiu’s abilities, Qin Qianrou hadn’t mentioned them in detail,
but recalling the investigation into their initial encounter, she didn’t doubt Shen Yiqiu’s words.
“I’ll have Shao Ze go over immediately, you and Xiao Wan be careful on your way.”
It had rained heavily for two days, the mountains unstable, even the old road was affected,
Yuan Qi, during his previous visit, had taken the new road, this time, however, they were told a section of the road was under construction, and they had to take the old, less maintained road.
The rain had stopped, but the dangers remained. They rented an SUV and a local driver and set off towards the resort.
However, the road conditions worsened, and even the driver couldn’t help but comment, “It’s been years since I last came this way, all the tourism development funds went to the new road, this one has been completely neglected.”
The accident happened quickly, without any warning, a violent jolt, then darkness, and Qin Qianrou’s last thought before losing consciousness was of Shen Yiqiu.
She thought, I haven’t even had a chance to talk to her properly.
After receiving the news, rescue teams were immediately dispatched, but unfortunately, the weather worsened, a heavy downpour, the wind and the rain reducing visibility even further.
The rescue efforts continued, but their hopes dwindled, Wen Yirong bit her lip hard, her body trembling as she leaned against Wen Shao Ze, Li Wan frantically sought updates, the heels of her shoes covered in mud, she almost twisted her ankle, and she simply broke them off.
Shen Yiqiu, hearing the latest update, that the driver’s body had been found, mangled beyond recognition, the rescue workers asking Wen Yirong to be prepared, she heard someone sobbing softly in the distance.
Shen Yiqiu clutched her chest, but she couldn’t sense anything, she wouldn’t accept this, since she had sensed the danger, Jiejie must still be alive.
“No, Jiejie wouldn’t leave me,” Shen Yiqiu mumbled, wanting to go to where the rescue efforts were concentrated.
Li Wan grabbed her arm, the heavy rain plastering their raincoats to their bodies,
“Don’t go over there, it’s dangerous!”
Li Wan’s voice was hoarse, her face wet with rain and tears, her throat aching, every word a struggle.
Shen Yiqiu pulled away and ran towards the site with all her might. No one had expected her sudden appearance, and by the time they reacted, she was already there.
Ignoring everyone else, she started frantically searching through the rubble, no tools, no protection, not even a helmet, just her bare hands,
the rescue workers tried to pull her away, but understanding her desperation, they said,
“Please wait for us, we’ll find her as soon as possible, it’s not safe here, please cooperate with us.”
Shen Yiqiu, however, wouldn’t leave, she didn’t have the energy to explain, she just wanted to find Jiejie, she picked up a sharp rock and, without hesitation, cut her palm, a cross-shaped wound, the blood mingling with the rainwater,
the darkness concealing the bright red, her last hope,
ignoring the pain, she continued her desperate search, smearing her blood on every crevice, hoping to sense Jiejie’s presence,
“You promised you wouldn’t leave me, you can’t break your promise,”
Shen Yiqiu’s vision blurred, the rain obscuring everything, but she couldn’t stop, Jiejie was waiting for her.
Wen Yirong, startled by Shen Yiqiu’s actions, struggling to maintain her composure, said to Wen Shao Ze, “Go bring that child back, if anything happens to her, I… how can I face Xiao Rou?”
If her daughter was truly… gone, then Wen Yirong had to take care of Shen Yiqiu for her.
Wen Shao Ze, although worried, didn’t move, and Wen Yirong, her heart breaking, pushed him,
“Let’s trust Shen Yiqiu, just this once.”
Both Li Wan and Wen Shao Ze knew about the Xinting Hotel incident, and they now placed all their hope on Shen Yiqiu, hoping for another miracle.
Wen Yirong closed her eyes, her heart aching, unable to do anything but watch, along with everyone else, as Shen Yiqiu continued her search, her hand bleeding, her determination unwavering.
Shen Yiqiu searched desperately, the blood flowing, the fear of losing Jiejie, the painful memories of her past loss, overwhelming her, she didn’t want to experience this again, if she lost Qin Qianrou, she didn’t know how she would go on.
“Jiejie, you have to wait for me, I still have so much to tell you,” Shen Yiqiu murmured, her determination fueled by this belief.
She didn’t know how much time had passed, until the rain gradually stopped, her body numb, her hand almost losing all feeling, someone approached, trying to help her up,
she pushed them away, collapsing onto the rubble, unwilling to leave, her heart aching, her breath catching in her throat, she thought, Perhaps this past year wasn’t rebirth, but a beautiful dream, a gift from the heavens, to ease my suffering.
And if this time was truly a gift, then Qin Qianrou was undoubtedly the most precious gift of all.
Shen Yiqiu closed her eyes, a faint smile on her lips, trying to recall her time with Qin Qianrou, when suddenly, a sharp, intense pain shot through her chest, making her double over, the blood loss causing her vision to blur, and Qin Qianrou’s face appeared before her,
“Jiejie is still alive! She’s still alive!” Shen Yiqiu sat up abruptly, grabbing the arm of a nearby rescue worker.
After so many hours, many had already given up hope, although no one had said it out loud.
“You’re not in good condition, please rest for a bit, we’ll continue searching, don’t worry.”
Shen Yiqiu, unable to contain her excitement, stood up unsteadily, returning to where she had been searching before, continuing in the faint light of dawn,
Wen Yirong’s heart ached, not just for her daughter, but also for Shen Yiqiu,
she hadn’t realized Shen Yiqiu loved Qin Qianrou so deeply.
Shen Yiqiu’s persistence was finally rewarded. A faint sound from a narrow crevice, and she cried out joyfully, her ear pressed against it, waving frantically for the others to come over,
the rescue workers, drawn by her sudden excitement, gathered around, and Wen Yirong, who had been standing in the distance, her heart broken and her hope fading, felt a flicker of hope rekindled, she had been through this cycle of hope and despair countless times during the past few hours,
but this time, her prayers were finally answered.
The crowd parted, and Qin Qianrou, on a stretcher, didn’t seem to be seriously injured. Shen Yiqiu walked beside her, towards them,
“She still has vital signs, get her to the hospital immediately,”
an ambulance had been waiting nearby, and everyone felt it was a miracle.
When they were found, they first saw Yuan Qi, his clothes stained with blood,
some from the impact of the rocks, some clearly not his, and only after Qin Qianrou was found, in the space beneath him, did they realize the blood wasn’t hers either,
Shen Yiqiu belatedly realized it must have been hers,
so she had found them last night, but she had missed them,
in the ambulance, as the nurse treated her wounds, Shen Yiqiu, numb to the pain, stared at the unconscious Qin Qianrou,
leaning against the window, the gentle rocking of the ambulance, only one thought in her mind: Thankfully, I didn’t give up.
Jiejie, thank you for not giving up either.
