Chapter 31 Part 1

Wei Shuyu let out a dumbfounded laugh. “You still remember.”

Previously, when Jin Yizhu had been in Hong Kong, she had video called with Jin Yizhu and agreed to go to Tokyo Disneyland together.

Unfortunately, they had gotten too busy recently and delayed it.

“You’re only coming for two days this time. I thought you weren’t going.”

Wei Shuyu glanced at her watch and asked:

“Go now?”

“Right now.” Jin Yizhu lifted her chin, revealing a bit of coquettish demeanor. “I want to go to Disneyland to celebrate.”

She shook the brochure in her hand. Wei Shuyu watched her movement, and her heart softened by more than half.

“Okay, then let’s go now.”

She hoped so much that things would go just as she envisioned: smoothly start filming, become famous in one fell swoop, and gain renown.

Before leaving, Wei Shuyu looked at the exhibition hall one more time and sincerely prayed.

Tokyo Disneyland was different from Tokyo Disneyland. It was far from central Tokyo, already at the Chiba seaside, and it took about an hour to drive there.

Wei Shuyu drove while Jin Yizhu sat in the passenger seat. She acted like she was going on a spring outing and had bought a pile of snacks at the convenience store. As soon as they hit the highway, she began feeding Wei Shuyu.

“Want some chips?” Jin Yizhu asked her with a beaming smile. “Cheese onion flavor—really tasty.”

“Just one bite… I don’t really like snacks.”

Wei Shuyu kept her eyes forward. Amid the slightly reduced speed, Jin Yizhu stuffed a chip into her mouth. The salty, fragrant taste spread, and it was indeed delicious.

“But I want to drink some water.”

“Water? Sure, sure!”

It was rare for her to make a request, so Jin Yizhu fumbled hurriedly through the convenience store plastic bag, pulled out a bottle of mineral water, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to Wei Shuyu.

“Is mineral water okay? Want milk or cola?”

Wei Shuyu handed the water back to her, sensing something off.

Wasn’t Jin Yizhu… a bit too excited?

“Jin Yizhu, this isn’t your first time driving out for fun, is it?” she asked suspiciously.

“No, not at all. Back in school, I often went on road trips with classmates. We even planned to drive all the way to Canada.” Jin Yizhu spoke excitedly, but her face showed no nostalgia. Instead, her voice trailed off, and she looked a bit embarrassed. “But coming out to play like this with a friend—this is my first time.”

A friend she had chosen herself.

Not a childhood sweetheart with family entanglements, not a classmate or colleague with benefit entanglements, not a paid companion with money entanglements.

A true friend.

Even though she had forced it a little…

But Wei Shuyu seemed pretty happy too.

“I see. No wonder you’re so excited.”

Wei Shuyu smiled as she spoke, her tone sounding genuinely happy. But for some reason, Jin Yizhu felt like she was sighing.

“Don’t worry. We’ll go out and play like this often in the future.”

Wei Shuyu assured her:

“If we have time, we can drive all the way to Hokkaido—see the snow in Sapporo and the stars in Hakodate.”

In her brief description, Jin Yizhu’s heart stirred, and she dazed off for an instant.

She wanted so badly to just keep going like this with Wei Shuyu, along the endless highway, all the way to the end of the world.

The tip of the Dream Castle gradually came into view. Disneyland was right ahead.

Moments later, Wei Shuyu parked the car. Disney music played in the parking lot, and just listening to it improved the mood.

Jin Yizhu felt a bit excited. It wasn’t her first time at Tokyo Disneyland—for her, Disneyland felt even more familiar than home. The characters and atmosphere in the park always relaxed her.

But coming with Wei Shuyu made it feel different every time.

“The weather is so nice today.” Jin Yizhu looked at the sky. “Better than last time at Tokyo Disneyland.”

“Yeah. If we leave the park early, we can go to the sea.” Wei Shuyu smiled at her. “But we probably won’t leave early.”

“We definitely have to watch the parade before we go!” Jin Yizhu said enthusiastically. “Wouldn’t it be too late to go to the sea after the parade?”

“Not too late… I think watching the sea at midnight sounds romantic too.” Wei Shuyu laughed. “But if we do the parade then the sea, you’ll have to drive.”

“Are you tired?” Jin Yizhu asked. “Then I’ll drive back.”

She took hold of Wei Shuyu’s hand, naturally interlocking their fingers.

Wei Shuyu paused for a moment. Holding hands just like that—you’re a bit too natural, aren’t you? She welcomed it and naturally didn’t correct her.

“Okay, you drive back then.” Wei Shuyu softened her tone, sounding almost coquettish. “I just don’t want to drive that far.”

Would other canaries talk like this? She didn’t know, but she could tell Jin Yizhu fell for it completely.

Jin Yizhu nodded and took the umbrella from her hand, nodding seriously. “Then I’ll drive back. You can rest.”

“I’ll feed you fruit. Didn’t you buy strawberries?”

Wei Shuyu tilted her head and gave her a charming smile.

“Why didn’t you give me any just now?”

Jin Yizhu’s mind went blank for an instant. There was no blame in Wei Shuyu’s words, but… a person who usually showed no expressions or emotions looking at her like this, asking why she hadn’t given her strawberries…

She only wanted to ask why she hadn’t thought of it earlier. Forget strawberries—if Wei Shuyu wanted the moon from the sky, she’d want to pluck it down for her.

In that instant, Jin Yizhu understood ancient tyrants perfectly.

With beauty right there before her, what was lighting beacon fires just to amuse a consort? She wasn’t even a man, yet she wanted to conquer heaven and earth, hand over everything—just to see this person smile at her more.

Tokyo Disneyland bustled as lively as ever. As soon as they entered Main Street, the background music filled their ears.

The shop windows lining the street featured all new seasonal displays. The colors were so bright that their eyes, not yet adjusted, got hit full-force with festive cheer.

A crowd piled up at the entrance to Chip ’n Dale’s candy shop. Kids chased balloons while adults snapped photos. A gust of wind brought the sweet, cloying scent of cotton candy.

“Want to check out Pluto first?” Jin Yizhu knew Wei Shuyu’s tastes and spotted the golden little dog first. She asked her. “The new keychains should be out.”

Wei Shuyu walked beside her. Hearing this, her smile grew more sincere. “You still remember I like Pluto.”

Her voice wasn’t loud, but the amusement rang clear, like she spoke to a light rhythm.

Jin Yizhu walked beside her and gently patted her back. “Hey, I gave you a whole pile of Plutos. If I don’t remember, who would?”

“Right, right. You even shipped that pile of little Plutos to Tokyo.” Wei Shuyu said. “Afraid I’d forget.”

The two entered the shop and strolled along, pausing here and there, peering at this and that. Both loved Disney, so they understood each other perfectly—no rushing the other. Every few steps, a window display pulled them in. They’d pick up one item to fiddle with, then spot another and lean in close.

On the busy street where everyone else hurried, they moved like a single slow-motion frame.

The crowd thickened noticeably when they entered the Mickey Center shop.

Shelves displayed rows of ear headbands neatly arranged. The lights made the plush ones shimmer faintly.

Wei Shuyu looked left and right but found nothing worth buying. She had once been a Shanghai Disney regular and owned most of the basics—only limited editions drew her interest now.

Jin Yizhu had the spending power for it and frequented Disneys in various countries, so ordinary items held no appeal.

They had snatched the new keychains right at the entrance; now the basket held them all. Wei Shuyu carried the shopping basket and felt even less excited.

Jin Yizhu scanned the place but wanted nothing. Then she spotted something fun, strode right over, and beckoned Wei Shuyu. Puzzled, Wei Shuyu approached. Jin Yizhu picked out a Marie cat ear headband and placed it on her.

“What are you…”

Before Jin Yizhu could speak, she laughed first. Looking in the mirror, her eyes narrowed, and she softened completely.

“You think it suits me?”

“Yes—beautiful and haughty Marie cat. Perfect for my beautiful and haughty Miss Wei Shuyu.”

Jin Yizhu nodded in satisfaction and appraised the woman before her. Delicate, refined features; eye corners that drooped just slightly, giving an innocently cute kitten look—yet a stubborn glint hid in those eyes.

“Really cute. Don’t take it off.”

“You say don’t, and I won’t?”

Wei Shuyu paid her no mind. The next second, she removed the Marie ears, grabbed a Cheshire Cat headband, and put it on Jin Yizhu’s head. She pushed her toward the mirror.

“Look at you. Perfect for this naughty little cat.”

Wei Shuyu leaned in with a smile, her eyes twinkling mischievously.

“So what?”

Jin Yizhu glanced at her but left it on, tacitly accepting the pairing.

“I was never a good person to begin with.”

Being good only got her hurt—like those past years, when others treated her like a fool and toyed with her.

Now, the last thing she wanted was to play the so-called good person. So what if others spat on her? She would seize back what belonged to her.

Jin Yizhu turned away. At checkout, her ears still twitched with each movement.

“I’ll take this one.” She said. “The Cheshire Cat is cute too.”

“Deceive Alice into that terrifying wonderland?”

Wei Shuyu whispered, but she gripped her hand tighter.

“I do like it, yes.”

In the entire Alice in Wonderland story, she hadn’t liked the pure, kind Alice or the lofty Red Queen. She liked the lying Cheshire Cat.

Perhaps she alone liked someone like that.

But what did it matter? Love was love, after all.

After buying the Disney-exclusive ears, they left the shop with cat ears on their heads, just like the kids around them. In Disney, though, no one found it strange—it seemed perfectly natural.

That was Disney’s magic: everyone could just be themselves.

Wei Shuyu kept glancing at Jin Yizhu’s ears as they walked, occasionally reaching out to touch them. She couldn’t hold back her smile.

“What? You’re that happy?”

Jin Yizhu grabbed her hand. Her words sounded like a complaint, but laughter filled her voice.

“Wei Shuyu?”

“What?” Wei Shuyu didn’t pull away. Instead, she tilted her head to look at her. “You’re cute like this. Can’t I be happy?”

Her eyes shone bright. In that instant, Jin Yizhu thought that if eternity existed in the world, it had to be right then.

That radiance stunned her. She went speechless for a long while.

“Of course.” It was the first time in her life that Jin Yizhu felt shy under a girl’s gaze. She averted her eyes from Wei Shuyu’s. “You really think so?”

“Yes.” Wei Shuyu sounded baffled and even poked her ear. “Super cute. No one ever told you?”

“No one calls me cute.” Jin Yizhu said. “Others say I’m aggressive.”

“That’s true too.” Wei Shuyu answered without hesitation. “But I like aggressive ones.”

Before Jin Yizhu could react, she skipped past the overly flirtatious topic and headed straight ahead.

“Dumbo’s that way.”

She pointed in a direction and ran off without checking if Jin Yizhu followed.

Jin Yizhu walked slowly after her. The headband swayed but stayed on. She watched her running back with a distant look in her eyes.

In the third year of becoming her canary, I fell in love with her. My boss was exquisite and beautiful, gentle and considerate, a graduate of a top prestigious school. Her office overlooked the Victoria night view. She was the quintessential Minato Ward eldest miss. But she had a fiancé. - The day Jin Yizhu announced the broken engagement, the Mid-Levels was shaken. "You match him perfectly in status and grew up together from childhood. Now you just call it off?!" Her father could no longer maintain decorum. He slammed the table and roared, "I don't care if you keep a little girl outside, but this kind of nonsense won't do!" Jin Yizhu's brows and eyes remained cold. She merely swept her gaze over them, and the table full of finely dressed men and women fell silent. "It's just a marriage alliance. There were no feelings to begin with, so why can't I call it off?" - The day I prepared to leave, Hong Kong was deluged by a torrential downpour. Jin Yizhu, who had gone out to a banquet, rushed back. Even her hair strands dripped with water. She held me, her voice hoarse, almost pleading: "Wei Shuyu, can you not leave?" I did not soften. I merely wiped her hair dry for her: "Jin Yizhu, we agreed. The day you get married, that's the day I leave." "But I broke off the engagement," Jin Yizhu replied. "You can never leave now." - Eldest Miss Jin had grown addicted to keeping her canary. She even broke off her engagement for her. Yet no one had ever seen what this rumored canary looked like. Until the new year's film exhibition, when Jin Yizhu attended alone. Someone with ill intentions asked her: "Miss Jin, have you grown tired of your canary?" Jin Yizhu lifted her chin slightly, a gentle smile directed at the stage as she said: "You mean my wife? She's receiving her award."
