Chapter 32 Part 1

The next day, when she woke up, Wei Shuyu was in Jin Yizhu’s room.

Although she had drunk a little alcohol, she still remembered what happened yesterday. After watching the fireworks at Tokyo Disneyland, Jin Yizhu kept her promise and let her drive them home.

She fell asleep as soon as she got in the car—not because of the alcohol, but because she truly didn’t know what to do.

Escaping was shameful but effective. Since Jin Yizhu had no intention of giving her an explanation, sitting in the passenger seat, the most reasonable thing for her to do besides feeding her strawberries and oolong tea was to sleep.

Jin Yizhu probably didn’t want to talk to her at all…

After all, the way she looked at her was full of evasion.

Was that reasonable? Was it? She was the one who kissed her first! She hadn’t done anything to the straight girl; it was the straight girl who kissed her first!

So what exactly was Jin Yizhu evading… Wei Shuyu couldn’t be bothered to figure it out, let alone ask. She simply lay down and slept soundly in the passenger seat.

So what if she was a Canary? Jin Yizhu had kissed her—did she still only see her as a Canary?

Wei Shuyu slept openly and boldly. Jin Yizhu didn’t blame her; instead, she felt a sense of relief.

Was this her understanding nature too?

Jin Yizhu couldn’t help but think to herself that after she inexplicably crossed the line, Wei Shuyu didn’t blame her or press her for answers. Instead, she gave her an out by sleeping soundly beside her. It had to be said that this was a kind of gentleness.

Why had she kissed Wei Shuyu?

Even after several hours had passed, lying on her own bed at home, Jin Yizhu still hadn’t figured it out.

Was it just because the fireworks at Tokyo Disneyland were too beautiful…

Or because the Wei Shuyu beside her was too beautiful… Those eyes sparkled as they watched the fireworks, and that refined face was full of longing for the dreamlike fairy tale. She couldn’t see her, nor could she see anything around her.

But wasn’t that normal? At Tokyo Disneyland, wasn’t that normal? Seeing only the fireworks, the castle, and the princess—wasn’t that normal?

But why did she feel burning with anger? Why did she have to make Wei Shuyu notice her, even going so far as to turn her face toward her and kiss her lips?

Jin Yizhu couldn’t sleep. She often suffered from insomnia, but never had it left her feeling so lost.

To make matters worse, she had made a wrong decision. On the way home, when Wei Shuyu acted spoiled and asked where she should sleep, she said to sleep with her.

That momentary softness and reluctance had now all turned into blades stabbing at herself.

Wei Shuyu didn’t sleep honestly. Whether it was a nightmare or something else, she mumbled unclear words, rolled into her arms, and fussed for a hug.

She didn’t move, so Wei Shuyu rubbed against her in a daze.

Even in her sleep, that face was unbelievably beautiful. She had never been able to resist Wei Shuyu’s face—it was so pure, as if she understood nothing, yet when she acted spoiled, it revealed an unbelievably alluring charm.

Did she know it herself? Probably not. If she did, with her personality, she would definitely restrain herself and never show that expression in front of others again. But she didn’t.

In every moment when her mind wandered, Wei Shuyu leaned closer, acted spoiled toward her, and shook her even more.

In the dead of night, when she received a message from Hong Kong, Jin Yizhu’s heart skipped a beat, yet she also felt a sense of relief.

If she didn’t have to rush back to Hong Kong overnight, she really wouldn’t know how to face Wei Shuyu.

The next day, when Wei Shuyu woke up, the spot beside her was already empty.

She stared blankly at the snow-white ceiling for a while before her thoughts slowly gathered.

Oh, yesterday at Tokyo Disneyland, Jin Yizhu had inexplicably kissed her.

It was a very pure kiss—lips pressed to lips, skin touching skin. The embrace was deep and heavy, the kiss deep and heavy, but there were no other movements. It was just that pure kiss. Her mind went blank, not knowing how to react. Jin Yizhu was probably the same.

But running away now was too much.

—Sudden situation, heading back to Hong Kong first.

Wasn’t that running away? What sudden situation required rushing back to Hong Kong overnight?

Wei Shuyu couldn’t figure it out and couldn’t sleep. Seeing that there was still some time before class, she simply called Jin Yizhu.

The number you dialed is unavailable.

Great, she was even blocked.

Wei Shuyu let out a cold laugh. Well played.

She messaged Jin Yizhu: What happened that you had to leave in such a hurry?

The message sent smoothly, so was the phone really unavailable due to bad signal?

Jin Yizhu replied quickly: It’s about my cousin. My dad is giving me trouble over it.

Wei Shuyu was stunned. Indeed, that was an urgent situation.

Far more urgent than their kiss, perhaps she shouldn’t overthink it? She should let Jin Yizhu handle her troubles first. After all, that kind of palace intrigue-like family struggle wasn’t something that could be resolved quickly.

The sky had already brightened. The weather was nice today; the sunlight wasn’t harsh. The curtains were half-drawn, leaving only a layer of sheer fabric. The light in the room was soft—not bright, but not oppressive either.

Wei Shuyu sat on the edge of the bed, dazed for two seconds. She didn’t have the habit of wearing slippers, yet a pair was neatly placed under the bed—probably put there by Ah Jin at Jin Yizhu’s instruction.

“…She’s pretty attentive about things like this.”

The room was very quiet. Besides her own voice, there was only the ticking of the wall clock, clear as day.

“But she doesn’t understand the truly important things at all.”

Jin Yizhu wasn’t here, so saying this was pointless.

But if Jin Yizhu were here, she definitely wouldn’t say it out loud.

Wei Shuyu left the room. Her brushing was leisurely; foam nearly overflowed from her mouth before she remembered to spit it out. She choked a little and coughed twice, her eyes even tearing up slightly.

Perhaps she was more affected than she had imagined…

Wei Shuyu glanced in the mirror, simply ran a comb through her hair, and didn’t bother tying it up. She just let it hang loose as she walked out.

Her phone was on the bedside table and lit up just then—a message from Jin Yizhu.

The content was short: She had arranged for someone to come over to discuss her movie investment.

Wei Shuyu showed no expression as she stared at the screen for a few seconds.

“Have you thought about my conditions? Our project won’t allow anyone else to interfere. I want those clauses written into the contract.”

After sending the message, Jin Yizhu had actually been watching her phone. During this rare break, she wanted to settle yesterday’s matter with Wei Shuyu quickly.

When she received Wei Shuyu’s message, she was slightly stunned and replied on instinct:

“You’re quite businesslike.”

After sending it, she felt it was off.

She was the one who kissed Wei Shuyu first, and she was the one who fled to Hong Kong without even saying goodbye. Talking business now sounded a bit mocking no matter how you looked at it.

“Sorry, I’m a professional in this area.”

Wei Shuyu replied without mercy.

“When the person comes, make sure the clauses are in the contract, or I won’t sign.”

Was she angry? Jin Yizhu wasn’t sure.

She really wanted to see Wei Shuyu’s expression—was her gaze icy, or was she even sneering?

“What are you doing?”

Jin Yizhu’s video call connected the second she initiated it.

“Afraid I’ll back out?”

“Afraid you’re secretly cursing me.”

Jin Yizhu smiled as she spoke. On the phone screen, the person looked like she had just gotten out of bed. Her long hair scattered over her shoulders, covering her small, rounded earlobes. She wore a nightgown; the cool silk draped along her curves, outlining a waist so slender it seemed it could snap easily.

Wei Shuyu lounged on the sofa, eating ice cream, looking like a lazy little cat.

“You’re eating ice cream the moment I leave? Too much.”

“You can eat it too if you want,” Wei Shuyu said innocently. “I’m not stopping you.”

“I mean you shouldn’t eat so much cold stuff.”

Jin Yizhu wasn’t one to be easily fooled. She glanced at her watch and said:

“I’m about to head into a meeting. Hurry and change. The professional manager will come find you soon.”

“What’s the rush? There’s still time,” Wei Shuyu said, looking down at her nightgown. “If you don’t say anything and I don’t say anything, who would know this is a nightgown?”

Indeed, her nightgown was well-cut and not much different from a regular slip dress on the market. If Wei Shuyu wanted, she could totally wear it out as regular clothing.

“It’s exactly because I know…” that’s why I don’t want you wearing it.

As Jin Yizhu hesitated whether to say it, Wei Shuyu decisively hung up the video, leaving her with one sentence:

“Go to your meeting, Eldest Miss.”

She softened her tone, her voice rising slightly at the end, making even “Eldest Miss” sound soft and sweet.

Jin Yizhu’s ears tingled for a moment. She really hadn’t expected Wei Shuyu to suddenly call her that.

She had heard countless people call her that way, but why did it feel so strangely different when Wei Shuyu said it?

“Director Jin, the meeting is about to start. Shall we head over now?” Her assistant appeared at the lounge door, asking hesitantly. “I’ve put the materials there for you.”

“Coming right away.”

Jin Yizhu nodded and picked up the folder on the table.

Her dad was President Jin, so she could only be Director Jin. But…

That position would be hers one day.

After ending the video, Wei Shuyu set her phone on the table and poured herself a glass of water.

The cold water slid down her throat, sending a shiver up her spine and cooling even her brain.

The professional manager Jin Yizhu had arranged hadn’t arrived yet. Wei Shuyu thought for a moment and decided to change into some clothes in the bedroom.

For business talks, it was better to dress formally.

After killing some time, the doorbell finally rang.

Wei Shuyu didn’t rush to open the door. She straightened her collar once before going to answer it.

“Hello, Miss Wei. I’m Tang Su.”

The woman at the door was tall and sharp, dressed in a well-fitted deep navy suit with crisp tailoring. Her hair was not long, just past her shoulders, trimmed neatly without stray strands, making her facial lines clear and giving her a spirited look.

She wore fine high heels that made almost no sound on the corridor floor and stood perfectly straight.

“Miss Jin entrusted me to discuss the investment contract with you.”

“Hello,” Wei Shuyu smiled. “I’m Wei Shuyu.”

“Pleased to meet you,” Tang Su handed her a business card. “I hope we have a pleasant collaboration.”

Wei Shuyu stepped aside to let Tang Su in.

Tang Su gave a slight nod. She seemed accustomed to controlling the pace—her movements neither rushed nor slow, yet not dragging either.

“Miss Wei, you and Miss Jin are close, and both sides are interested in collaborating, so let’s skip the pleasantries.”

Tang Su got straight to the point. She sat on the sofa, set down her bag, and pulled out the documents, spreading them page by page.

“This is the contract. We’ve added the clauses you requested. Please review them.”

She sat very straight, her gaze fixed on the materials on the coffee table, barely moving.

When she turned the pages, her movements were extremely light, yet her presence wasn’t weak. Even the air in the living room grew quiet.

Tang Su explained the contract terms to Wei Shuyu while flipping through the documents.

Wei Shuyu nodded slightly. This wasn’t her first time signing such a contract. From the explanations alone, there were no traps in the one Tang Su brought.

But would Jin Yizhu put traps in a contract for her?

Wei Shuyu gave a self-mocking smile. Sure enough, she was still too suspicious.

After Tang Su finished explaining the contract in detail, she asked, “Miss Wei, is there anything else you’d like to know?”

“No, that’s all. Leave the contract here for now.”

In the third year of becoming her canary, I fell in love with her. My boss was exquisite and beautiful, gentle and considerate, a graduate of a top prestigious school. Her office overlooked the Victoria night view. She was the quintessential Minato Ward eldest miss. But she had a fiancé. - The day Jin Yizhu announced the broken engagement, the Mid-Levels was shaken. "You match him perfectly in status and grew up together from childhood. Now you just call it off?!" Her father could no longer maintain decorum. He slammed the table and roared, "I don't care if you keep a little girl outside, but this kind of nonsense won't do!" Jin Yizhu's brows and eyes remained cold. She merely swept her gaze over them, and the table full of finely dressed men and women fell silent. "It's just a marriage alliance. There were no feelings to begin with, so why can't I call it off?" - The day I prepared to leave, Hong Kong was deluged by a torrential downpour. Jin Yizhu, who had gone out to a banquet, rushed back. Even her hair strands dripped with water. She held me, her voice hoarse, almost pleading: "Wei Shuyu, can you not leave?" I did not soften. I merely wiped her hair dry for her: "Jin Yizhu, we agreed. The day you get married, that's the day I leave." "But I broke off the engagement," Jin Yizhu replied. "You can never leave now." - Eldest Miss Jin had grown addicted to keeping her canary. She even broke off her engagement for her. Yet no one had ever seen what this rumored canary looked like. Until the new year's film exhibition, when Jin Yizhu attended alone. Someone with ill intentions asked her: "Miss Jin, have you grown tired of your canary?" Jin Yizhu lifted her chin slightly, a gentle smile directed at the stage as she said: "You mean my wife? She's receiving her award."
