“Art, is this everyone?”
In a dark, damp cave, a hunched old man in a robe, leaning on a cane, looked at the men and women huddled together in bound groups. He spoke with dissatisfaction to the man standing behind him.
The man wore a white mask with flame-like patterns, revealing only holes for his eyes. His facial expression was hidden. He was draped in a tattered black hooded trench coat and carried a giant silver-white sword on his back.
“Yes, Mr. Kaslan. If it’s just corpses you want, I can get you as many as you need.”
“Hmph, this old man needs live ones, live ones! Do you hear me? What use do I have for soulless chunks of meat?”
The hunched old man flicked his sleeve, furious.
“Ha, Mr. Kaslan, this is just how I, a Fallen Demon Hunter, operate. I do things entirely based on my mood. Could you please not use that commanding tone? It makes me unhappy.”

The hard stone floor of the cave gradually cracked open, emitting white smoke and dust as skeletons crawled out one by one.
Holding chipped long blades in their bony hands, red light popped into their eye sockets as they completely surrounded the masked man, Art.
“Heh, Kaslan, you think these rotten bones can stop me?”
The masked man dropped the honorifics for the hunched old man. He stood perfectly still, his tone extremely calm.
The hunched old man turned around, revealing his pale face with heavy bags under his eyes.

I paid you thirty thousand gold coins in advance before hiring you. Yet, in a month, you’ve brought back less than a hundred people intermittently. Even buying slaves would have gotten the job done by now. What exactly are you doing?”
“I thought Mr. Kaslan needed powerful and pure souls, just like the woman I brought last time, not those filthy, injury-ridden slaves.”
“Hmph, that is indeed true, but that cannot be your excuse for stalling. My patience is limited. Tell me the truth, did you go on a killing spree again?”
Art let out a long breath.
“Some ungrateful things dared to attack me with knives, so I killed them on the spot. That shouldn’t be a big problem, right?”
“Sigh, I told you, capture them alive if possible, especially the souls of warriors who know martial arts. They can provide more energy for my Life Orb. Next time, you must capture them alive!”
“Yeah, yeah. How old are you, old geezer, still thinking about living? How pathetic.”
“Hmph, isn’t wanting to live the instinct of all living creatures? When you face death, you will have the same thoughts as this old man, Art.”
“Who knows?”
Art turned nonchalantly and walked toward the cave exit—of course, after smashing the skeleton blocking his way with his shoulder.
“Hmph, an Orichalcum-rank Fallen Demon Hunter is already this unruly. I really wonder what kind of characters those Titanium ranks are.”
The hunched old man turned back to the bound and gagged men and women. He pulled out an orb emitting blue light from his robes.
“Oh, Orb of Life, devour! Your souls shall become my sustenance.”
A ghostly blue light drifted toward the people.
“Mmmph mmmph mmmph!!”
They made muffled whimpering sounds, while something white was constantly being stripped from their bodies.
Eventually, they stopped moving, turning into corpses. Their eyes were wide open in terror, and the tears that flowed out dripped onto the cold rock.
