Chapter 14
A flash of white sword light, and I knew it was too late. The masked man’s strength far exceeded Edmond’s. Even if I went down to help, I would likely just take one hit and end up lying on the ground too.
Recalling the injuries I’ve sustained so far—corrosion and muscle wounds—the most serious cuts didn’t cause much pain. But if I suffer a more severe injury, the outcome is unknown. I even started to doubt if I’m really a vampire. If I suffer a fatal wound while fighting the masked man and die just like that…
The more nervous I get, the more chaotic my thoughts become, always dwelling on nonsense.
On the rooftops, the melee between bandits and militia hadn’t ended. Forced into close combat, the militiamen pulled out short knives to fight against the bandits’ long blades. Beside me, Eiger kicked a bandit off the roof, his bloodshot eyes wide as copper bells, nocking arrows and shooting at the bandits on the roof.
“Bang.”
A dilapidated wooden door not far from us was kicked open. The young man with messy hair walked out, a bandage wrapped around his leg. He looked toward the masked man standing with his sword in the village center.
It’s Sharon!
His pupils dilated. Sharon limped toward the masked man, simultaneously drawing the two swords at his waist.
“It’s you, it’s you! You, you bastard, give me back my, give me back my fiancée!!”
《Sword Skill · Assault》
Dual swords thrust toward the masked man.
“Ha, where did this chicken-nest head come from? Who stole your fiancée?”
The masked man stabbed his sword into the ground and kicked Sharon down. Sharon spat out fresh blood.
“Guh, you, give, my, fiancée, Margaret, back!”
Sharon crawled on the ground, threads of blood from his mouth sticking to the earth.
“Give, back!”
“Oh, oh oh, oh oh oh! So it was that woman I took last time. Her soul was truly incomparable in purity, but she was absorbed by that stinking old man. What a pity, ahahaha…”
The masked man trembled all over with excitement.
“You, you guys, killed her?”
Tears flowed from Sharon’s black eyes.
“That’s right. I recall her corpse was even made into an undead zombie…”
Laughing so hard he bent backward and forward, the masked man pulled up his giant sword.
“I, I, I’m going to kill you…”
“K-kill, you.”
“Clack.”
Sharon grabbed the metal greaves under the masked man’s tattered hooded trench coat.
“Sharon!”
《Bow Skill · Triple Shot》
A hexagonal transparent shield flashed in front of him, and the arrows snapped. The arrowheads fell powerlessly straight down, landing on the ground that had become pitted and scarred.
“Damn it, it’s a Ranged Magic Shield!”
Eiger spat.
The masked man stomped viciously on Sharon.
“Let go! Let go!! I told you to let go!”
“Kill, splurt, you.”
“Kill…”
Blood and foam kept spewing from Sharon’s mouth, staining the gravel red circle by circle, until finally, his head drooped powerlessly.
My chest felt so tight it was about to burst into flames.
No, I can’t take it anymore… I can’t be as indecisive as when I fought the Goblins. Identity doesn’t matter anymore. This masked man in front of me is just a demon wearing human skin. No matter how the villagers judge me later, calling me a heretic or a devil, I can no longer stand by and watch good people fall.
I’m not a qualified Demon Lord.
Spreading my wings, I clenched my fists and flew rapidly toward the masked man.
“Little sister! Come ba… wings?”
Behind me, only Eiger’s confused shout remained.
“Hm?!”
The masked man’s reaction was extremely fast. He kicked Sharon away, raised his giant sword, and swung, severing my left arm. At the same time, my right fist hit the sword. He staggered back a few steps, nearly falling, but managed to stand firm.
Pain, like a scraped knee, transmitted to my brain nerves.
The severed arm turned into black bats and flew back to the limb’s stump, reattaching perfectly. Simultaneously, the gorgeous sleeve was rapidly repaired by dark matter.
“Vampire? Impossible!”
The masked man looked at the sun in the sky. He lowered his body, switching to a two-handed grip on his sword.
Fun fact: vampires were originally not killed by sunlight, at most they were just more active at night. I believe it was Bram Stoker’s dracula the added the weakness.
