Chapter 23
The Demon Lord’s Fortress is divided into three floors.
The first floor is the entrance, with a reception room and a great hall.
Numerous crystal chandeliers hang from the high walls in the hall, emitting dazzling light like stars. A red carpet is laid out all the way to the steps, and in the very center is a high throne. Above the throne is a huge inlaid black inverted cross, guarded by a large number of warriors in black armor.
The second floor has a large table set with various luxurious tableware, with many maids bustling in and out.
Honestly, I’ve never seen so many maids in my life. But after careful observation, none of them are pure humans. They are either fallen angels with black wings or demons with various ears on their heads, mostly fox ears to cat ears. Wearing short skirts with large cute ribbons, they walk around swaying their wings and tails, not caring in the slightest about flashing anyone.
Regrettably, even the youngest-looking maid is taller than me… As a result, when some maids bow to me, they have to lower their heads quite a bit, looking rather awkward.
The library was also found on the second floor, but unexpectedly, Oberth, aka Ah Fu, is the librarian.
A profession completely unsuited to his muscles. I think it’s Christine’s bad taste. Fortunately, there are no important books in the library, otherwise Oberth wouldn’t frequently be away from his post without permission. He probably squeezes out time to exercise.
The third floor is the Demon Lord’s residence. Of course, there is also the council chamber, but the so-called council chamber is just a place for tea parties. After all, there are no combat missions and no matters to report.
Also, it seems the third floor doesn’t just have my room. Nia and Bard live on this floor, including the kin Panis who takes care of Little Mio, and the cat-eared maid Daisy who follows me around, who is actually the head maid.
Right now, I am walking toward the kitchen on the second floor.
Yes, I want to eat meat, and normal meat at that.
Yesterday I ate bread, octopus tentacles, crab claws, mushrooms stewed with greens, kelp… all vegetarian.
The reason is simple. What the hell are those purple meats and green meats! Dry and hard meat that could break teeth—is this something humans can eat! Why can’t we eat some normal meat?
Seeing them eating happily, I couldn’t stand it at all—as a human.
The kitchen was overflowing with the aroma of food, but I could clearly smell strange meaty odors mixed in.
Ugh…
I want to go catch some prey to eat, just like the rabbit meat I had last time. How delicious that was! It’s been a day since we parted; I wonder how everyone in Colin Village is doing?
Let’s just look around the outer city. A wild game barbecue would be nice.
“Thud.”
Just as I was concentrating on what kind of game would be good to eat, my vision went black as I bumped into someone.
That flat chest, the white dress ribbons, and the dark but textured skin—I definitely wouldn’t mistake her.
“Lord Demon Lord. Eat.”
Nia always has that blank look. I don’t know what’s going on in her little head, and she never talks much.
“I don’t want to eat here today. I want to go outside for a barbecue.”
“Barbecue? Destruction?”
Nia tilted her head cutely.
“No, no, no. Barbecuing food, not destruction!”
I have to be careful with my words in the future.
“Lord Demon Lord. Nia. Wants to go.”
Nia wants to come too? Hmm… that’s actually a good idea. It can also avoid unnecessary worry from other subordinates.
“Then let’s go together.”
“Lord Demon Lord, are you going out?”
As we walked toward the first floor, we were spotted by the catgirl head maid and stopped.
“Yes. By the way, Little Mio is on my bed. Please take care of her; Panis isn’t free right now.”
“B-but it’s almost mealtime…”
“Tell everyone to eat first. No need to wait for us.”
Waving my small hand in a bye-bye gesture, Nia and I walked down the marble stairs.
