Volume 2 Chapter 15
We were in a narrow alley flanked by tall buildings, a place where few people passed.
Shadowy figures dotted the rooftops. I had initially thought they were just residents, but now it was clear they weren’t. Nia must have heard the faint scrape of weapons against sheaths to have identified them as hostile.
Whoosh.
The figures vaulted over the railings of the three-story rooftops and leaped down, surrounding the three of us. There were four in front and five behind, all masked with black cloth, holding swords, and dressed in identical black attire. My enhanced vision allowed me to see the tattoos on their hands: a rose falling into a skull.
“To what do I owe the pleasure of a visit from the petty rats of the ‘Death Rose’?” Bonnie asked, completely unfazed. She stood calmly with her rose parasol, questioning the men blocking her path.
“You jest, Your Highness. We’ve simply been asked to invite you to come with us,” said the man at the front. Only his graying eyebrows were visible, indicating he was older. All of them had used 《Levitation》 magic; otherwise, a jump from three stories would have broken anyone’s legs. Judging by their landing, it wasn’t the Fifth Tier spell 《Flight》, which involves a much more dramatic motion. 《Levitation》 was just a steady descent.
The man’s hoarse voice sounded like he had a lump of phlegm stuck in his throat, and it made my ears itch.
“And if I’m not willing?”
“Hehehe. It would be a shame to break any bones. This old man knows the Princess is a formidable opponent, so I had to resort to a little trickery. Please don’t take offense, Your Highness.”
“Oh? Then I’d like to see what kind of trick you have up your… slee… ugh…”
Dizziness washed over her. The strength drained from her limbs, and Bonnie’s vision blurred, the scenery twisting and spinning before her eyes.
The windows of the surrounding buildings had been opened, and something like a long tube was spraying a colorless gas into the alley.
“D… Damn it…”
So the residents’ homes have already been taken over? How fast! I was too careless!
Even if they had been tracking her movements, finding a convenient place to ambush her wouldn’t have been easy, so they couldn’t have had a fixed location. This meant that while Bonnie was talking to us, the residents’ rooms had been occupied by these men.
“This stuff is called ‘Faint-Paralysis Powder.’ It’s a new concoction developed by our organization. Hehe. Please, have a nice nap, Your Highness.”
“Bas…”
Leaning on her parasol for support, Bonnie held her breath, but it was no use.
“Hey, you lot, kill the slaves. And remember, make it quick and clean…”
Alice… Laura… run!
She couldn’t hear anything anymore. Bonnie’s consciousness sank into darkness.
“What a pain…” a cute, loli-like voice muttered, laced with annoyance.

“What! What’s with these two girls!!”
“The Faint-Paralysis Powder didn’t work?”
“Im-Impossible! The Princess passed out!”
“Boss! A black, flame-like shield! I’ve never seen anything like it!! It might be a shield of the Sixth Tier or higher!!”
Oops, I accidentally blew my cover. Defending against a gas is a bit harder than defending against a sword, so I had no choice but to activate the full effect of the black shield.
I used the Seventh Tier spell 《Purify》 to clear the discomfort from my system.
Fortunately, demons have a high resistance to drugs. I was only a little dizzy, and Nia recovered after a brief moment of disorientation. Bonnie, however, wasn’t so lucky.
“Retreat,” the old man ordered decisively.
You think you can just run away after all that? You’ve not only made me waste my mana, but you’ve also dragged me into a kidnapping plot. If you don’t take the blame for this, are you expecting two slaves to?

Here, take your blame!
