The Gaokao scores had finally been released. Though the process had been marred by all sorts of human coldness and mutual distrust, nothing could shake the magnificent achievement that Little Zhibai and Guang Yu had forged together.
The Ye family’s celebration banquet went without saying—Ye Qinghe had rushed to arrange it that very evening.
At the largest hotel in the city, he hosted relatives, friends, and all manner of business elites.
Did you think he was doing this to maintain his connections?
No, no, no. His one and only goal this time was to show off his daughters to all the guests!
Jealous? Envious? Tough luck—his two little angels were the Ye family’s cozy little padded jackets. No amount of envy would help you snag ones like them!
Truth be told, Ye Zhibai always got pretty nervous at these kinds of banquets.
She kept worrying: What if they asked her to say a few words onstage? After all, this was a celebration of her and Yun’er’s stellar Gaokao results. By all rights, a quick speech from her would be perfectly normal.
But her ability to string words together was as feeble as a slime’s!
You might as well drag a husky up to the mic and let it howl a couple of times—it might even get more applause than her.
Ye Zhibai’s worries were, of course, entirely unnecessary.
Who was Ye Qinghe? A total daughter-con.
Who was Ye Zhiyun? A hopeless sis-con.
When two weirdos like that stood at the helm of the Ye family, it was no surprise that Ye Zhibai enjoyed protection greater than a giant panda’s back home.
And so, after touring the hotel’s lavish setup and lively atmosphere, the resident giant panda—er, Ye Zhibai—settled into a quiet private room with Yun’er to enjoy their own little Gaokao victory feast, just the two of them.
Guang Yu thought: No issues here. Everyone celebrates in their own way—they handle the cheering, we handle the chow. It doesn’t cramp their victory vibe, so this makes me a reasonable, understanding deity.
Yun’er was in high spirits that night.
She said that in just two months, she could finally attend the same school as her sister.
It was the kind of wonderful scene she only dreamed about when she was asleep.
Walking hand in hand onto campus with her sister… It was enough to make anyone float on air!
“Sister! From now on, if you catch me slacking on studies or club activities, just beat me as punishment!”
A soon-to-be college freshman, and some people never changed their quirks.
Setting aside the quirks…
Ye Zhibai was thrilled too, right?
Thank goodness! The road had been bumpy, but they’d aced it in the end!
She’d half-expected them to end up at the same school two months from now because one of them had to repeat senior year. This outcome was a win for everyone!
Nothing more to say, Guang Yu.
Forget everything else—at the very least, you deserve the lion’s share of credit here.
Here’s another drumstick. I’ll dip it in wasabi for you myself!
Guang Yu was touched. In the Gaokao saga, she and Ye Zhibai had been battle buddies, wagering ten sodas on the line—and they’d reaped a bountiful victory today!
And so, a rare gleam of trust sparkled in Guang Yu’s starry cerulean eyes.
With utmost solemnity, she accepted the wasabi-dipped drumstick from Ye Zhibai’s hand.
The moment Guang Yu, fired up, sank her cherry lips into the drumstick’s surface—her expression twisted grotesquely.
Ye Zhibai glanced down at the dipping sauce.
Oh no.
In her excitement, she’d apparently… mistaken the wasabi for chili sauce.
——Good War Buddy
The next day.
Ye Zhibai’s friends and family dropped by in person to offer their congratulations.
Sorry… her circle of loved ones was maybe a billion times smaller than the crowd at yesterday’s hotel banquet.
Wah, her only close contact was Sister Liang!
Lin Zihan had arrived bright and early around seven to start her maid duties, while Chi Yuliang showed up at the Ye Family Manor at eight sharp.
These days, Chi Yuliang no longer needed to hide her visits. On the surface, she and Little Bai were just regular friends, and friends dropping by to congratulate Little Bai on her Gaokao scores was perfectly normal.
Thus, at the Lake Heart Pavilion in the Ye Family Manor.
The pavilion was little more than a quaint gazebo built on an artificial lake smack in the center of the manor.
The lake was roughly three times the size of a mid-sized swimming pool—not huge, but not small either. Nestled amid the manor’s architecture, it made for excellent feng shui and scenery.
The morning mist over the water had dissipated, but from the end of the thirty-meter boardwalk, the two figures seated face-to-face in the red-lacquered wooden pavilion on the lake’s surface were still too distant to make out clearly.
That’s right—this was the view from Ye Zhiyun, who was crouched low beside a boardwalk piling, peeking furtively toward the pavilion. She wore a casual home T-shirt topped with a little windbreaker.
Yun’er was up to her usual part-time “detective” routine, and this time, her fellow pint-sized sleuth wasn’t alone.
Lin Zihan, now changed into her maid outfit, was hunkered down behind another piling on the opposite side, observing from afar just like her.
“Damn it… this boardwalk is way too long. I can’t see a thing. Is Sister okay?”
“Uh… Zhibai should be fine,” Lin Zihan said with a wry smile and a shrug. She tried to reason it out. “That guest, Chi Yuliang, is just here to congratulate her. She’s not stealing your sister or anything. Why so tense? Though… does Little Bai’er even have friends like that? What does she eat to grow like that? Did you see her chest just now? Tsk tsk, it’s on another level entirely!”
“That’s exactly the problem.”
“The problem? With the congratulations?”
“Her chest is too damn big.”
“?”
It stunned Lin Zihan. She never imagined the root of the issue could be so straightforward!
Ye Zhiyun kept up her surveillance, acting every bit the frontline war correspondent.
Her brows furrowed, her expression darkening.
They were too far away to discern details—just vague silhouettes.
But one feature stood out prominently amid that silhouette!
Chi Yuliang’s chest!
Damn it, the advantages of nature were brutally potent!
Yun’er spun around, ducking back behind the piling. She sat on the grass, gazing at the sky with profound sighs.
“Sigh… Why’d Sister have to befriend someone so outrageous? I hope she doesn’t let those dumplings cloud her judgment. As far as I’m concerned, it’s all useless flab! No real purpose at all! Yeah, just dead weight!”
“Aren’t you thinking of that old fable we heard as kids—the one about the fox who couldn’t reach the grapes and called them sour? Ring any bells, Zhibai?”
“No need for the shade. Just tell me if it’s scary or not.”
“It is scary, but that’s way above my pay grade~”
Lin Zihan glanced down at her own chest.
At best a B-cup—smaller than Ye Zhiyun’s, even. She had zero grounds to compare with that busty alien.
So yeah, out of sight, out of mind. Real talk from the human experience.
Yun’er planned to sit tight right there until her sister finished talking.
She shot Lin Zihan a side-eye.
“If you’re that bored, go clean the house. You pulling maid wages for nothing?”
“But I’m Little Bai’er’s personal maid~ With Little Bai’er occupied, I can’t get close, so of course I’m keeping watch from afar.”
“You…!”
“Kidding! Relax, I already finished cleaning. I’ll hang here a bit, enjoy the breeze. Promise I’ll hustle extra hard in the flower field this afternoon!”
“Whatever.”
Yun’er had no time to bicker with Lin Zihan. She was debating whether to run back to the villa for binoculars!
Lin Zihan decided to keep observing for a while too.
She’d originally planned to head back.
After all, she wasn’t as bored as Ye Zhiyun. The guest was just congratulating Little Bai’er—what was there to worry about?
But… after hearing that this busty powerhouse was Little Bai’er’s “friend”…
Lin Zihan abruptly changed her mind— she’d stick around and watch a little longer.
Because… when Little Bai’er had headed out to meet the busty one earlier, her steps had looked awfully light and bouncy.
Hmm… Maybe this was the first time Lin Zihan truly understood that jealous pang Ye Zhiyun always felt.
