Even though facing the cameras was second nature to her, Song Lingshu still felt like finding a hole to crawl into at that moment. Thankfully, her extensive professional experience kicked in, and she quickly put on a smiling face.
The camera kept cutting between the two of them, and the small fixed camera by the car window was also moving, but Song Lingshu carried on a perfectly natural conversation with Guan Yue. “Where are we going to shop?”
She hadn’t done anything wrong, so what was there to be afraid of? It was just a little bit of acting cute and asking for a breath blown in her face. What was the big deal? She didn’t believe the audience could hate her to death for that.
Besides, she was already battle-hardened when it came to dealing with trolls.
Seeing that she wasn’t affected, Guan Yue also relaxed. She had been about to remind her about something just now, but before she could even speak, the other woman had asked for a breath blown on her face. She had been momentarily stunned, completely forgetting what she was going to say, and just unconsciously blew on her face as requested.
“Let’s go to a home furnishing store,” Guan Yue said.
“Are you renovating your house?”
“Mm.”
They went to the largest home furnishing store in the city center, three floors in total, with a food and dessert area. But the air conditioning seemed to be running for free—as soon as they stepped inside, they felt a chill. Song Lingshu was wearing a tank top, and as she passed through the front door, she instinctively rubbed her arms.
Seeing this, Guan Yue took a shawl out of her large bag and draped it over her shoulders.
“Wow, Commander Guan, why are you so thoughtful?” Song Lingshu pulled the shawl tighter around herself, froze for a moment, then lifted one corner to her nose and took a deep sniff. Her eyes lit up. “It smells like Begonia blossoms!”
“Maybe it’s because the perfume in my bag rubbed off on it,” Guan Yue said, a little amused by the way she was sniffing it like an addict. Curious, she asked, “Do you like this scent that much?”
“Yeah! I love Begonia flowers more than anything!” Song Lingshu exclaimed.
“Okay, I’ll remember that,” Guan Yue said with a nod.
Song Lingshu glanced at her, a smile curling at the corners of her mouth, and bumped her shoulder. “Remember what? You’re not thinking of only using this perfume from now on, are you?”
Guan Yue froze. Did I really come across that clearly?
“Ahem. I just meant what I said, literally.” Guan Yue hurriedly walked ahead to look at the merchandise.
Song Lingshu laughed and snorted. What a tsundere!
The main focus of their shopping trip was sofas and beds, along with some matching accessories. The salesperson asked Guan Yue about her preferences and decorating style, then recommended a few good sofas. Guan Yue looked at them all, and was about to ask for an opinion when she discovered that the other woman had fallen asleep on a sofa not far away. Her head was resting on the armrest, her shawl wrapped around her, looking completely comfortable and at ease.
Guan Yue walked over to her, bent down, and carefully studied her sleeping face for a moment. She didn’t disturb her, instead telling the salesperson, “Let’s go look at beds first.”
Half an hour later, Song Lingshu sat up with a yawn, glanced around, and saw Guan Yue walking over carrying two cups of coffee.
“You’re awake?” Guan Yue handed her one.
“Mm. I don’t know how I fell asleep. Maybe I woke up too early, or maybe the sofa was just too comfortable.” Song Lingshu took the coffee. It was hot, perfect for the freezing indoor environment.
“Want to rest a little longer?” Guan Yue asked.
“Are you done shopping?”
“Yeah.”
“Then let’s go. It’s too cold in here.” Song Lingshu stood up, stretched comfortably, and then curiously asked, “What did you buy?”
Guan Yue pointed at the bed she had ordered.
“Nice, nice.” Song Lingshu nodded. “What about the sofa?”
Guan Yue’s lips moved, but in the end, she didn’t say anything. She turned and pointed at the sofa Song Lingshu had been sleeping on just moments ago.
Song Lingshu’s eyelashes fluttered, and a hint of amusement glimmered in her eyes. “Great taste. That sofa was so soft and comfortable.”
“Mm.” Guan Yue gave a vague reply, turned her face away, and took a sip of her coffee to hide her embarrassment. Just as she was struggling to figure out how to naturally invite her over to play at her house without it sounding forced, she heard Song Lingshu say cheerfully, “If I ever come to your place, I can just sleep on the sofa.”
Guan Yue’s lips unconsciously twitched upward. With a perfectly serious expression, she said, “Don’t worry. I have plenty of rooms. I won’t make you sleep on the sofa.”
“Then I’m starting to look forward to it.”
After paying and arranging a delivery date, the two of them went out for a meal before heading back home together.
If it hadn’t been for the program team’s afternoon mission, they both would have preferred to just stroll around outside all day.
How to put it? It felt a lot like a date. (/ω\)
In the afternoon, the four female guests were arranged to go for afternoon tea at a uniquely styled dessert shop, where they chatted casually.
The group got along very well. Female guest #4, Jia Fei, also liked Zheng Haonan, often mentioning him in conversation. But she was more tactful than Yu Qin, never interrupting when he and A Ya were being lovey-dovey. It was the kind of pursuit that knew its boundaries.
She noticed that whenever she brought up Zheng Haonan now, Yu Qin didn’t seem to care at all, acting as if he didn’t exist. She just listened with a smile while Jia Fei and A Ya talked, and spent most of her time whispering to Guan Yue, discussing heaven knows what.
Maybe she’s already let him go, Jia Fei thought to herself.
“Why did the program team send us here?” A Ya asked. “They don’t actually want to just listen to us gossip, do they?”
“I’m guessing… maybe a new male guest is coming,” Jia Fei said, winking at them.
Song Lingshu suddenly looked up. Thinking about the current plot development, it was indeed time for a new male guest to appear.
The catfish effect—the idea that a catfish, by stirring up the minnows’ environment, also activates their survival instincts. It was a common tactic in business, and also a standard move in romance reality shows.
In the early stages, the seven guests had already started forming a relatively stable dynamic. Suddenly introducing a new guest could easily change the direction of everyone’s feelings, creating new developments.
Often, the audience would pin high hopes on this guest, wishing they could save a single guest they liked, or at least hoping to see a more exciting jealousy arena.
In the original novel, the three known male guests had all had their sights set on the female lead, A Ya. Perhaps to make the female lead’s universal appeal not too ridiculous, the new fourth male guest, however, liked… Guan Yue.
Just then, a tall, handsome young man pushed open the glass door and walked toward them. With a sunny, energetic smile, he greeted the four of them: “Hello, I’m Wang Dongyue.”
“Hi, are you the new male guest?” A Ya asked.
“Yes.”
“Have a seat first,” A Ya said.
The four women were sitting on both sides, so the man had to sit in the middle, attracting everyone’s attention.
A Ya introduced each of them by name, and then it was time for the man to introduce himself.
“My name is Wang Dongyue. I’m twenty-four years old, and I’m studying at Qingdao University…”
Song Lingshu listened absently. Wang Dongyue, a master’s student at Qingdao University, a total top student. He seemed sunny, athletic, had a sweet tongue, and had two dimples when he smiled. He was the popular type—a younger, cute little puppy.
That was why many people were shipping him with the overbearing female CEO. By the end of the show, he had even confessed to Guan Yue. Though he was rejected, they still hung out privately.
Now, because of her own intervention, many things had already changed without her even realizing it. She wasn’t sure if Guan Yue would still reject his confession this time.
Midway through, she went to the restroom. Guan Yue followed her in. They stood in front of the mirror touching up their lipstick, and Guan Yue asked, “Why are you so distracted? Not feeling well?”
“It’s nothing… What do you think of this little puppy guy?” Song Lingshu asked.
“Little puppy guy?” Guan Yue’s brows furrowed slightly. She hadn’t expected Song Lingshu to already have a nickname for him. Her mood turned a bit strange. “I don’t know. We only just met. I don’t know him yet.”
Song Lingshu heard the sound of her Heartbeat Value dropping by 3!
Oh my god, the little puppy has only just appeared, and my position is already in jeopardy?
No way, no way. I finally got my heart stirred for someone. I can’t let someone else snatch her away so easily.
I need to think of a way to reel her in.
The two left the restroom and walked back to the table. Song Lingshu glanced casually to the side, and her expression changed abruptly. She jumped in fright and clung onto Guan Yue. “Waaah, Commander! There’s a rat over there!”
Guan Yue instinctively caught her and patted her on the back. “It’s okay, it’s okay.”
The other guests and the shop staff were all startled by the commotion. Guan Yue looked over with everyone else…
Well, well. It was a Mickey Mouse.
