Despite her surprise, the priority was still to get the person home first.
Once the two of them were in the Lin family car, Song Lingshu rummaged around for a while inside the vehicle, found a dry towel, and used it to wipe Lin Wenwen’s wet arms and hair.
At that moment, the partition in front rose up, completely blocking the view from the driver’s seat. Lin Wenwen said, “I’m going to change clothes.”
“Oh…” Song Lingshu watched her take out a spare outfit, then turn around and face her.
“Help me with the zipper.” Lin Wenwen was soaked all over and couldn’t reach the zipper on her back.
“Oh…” Song Lingshu, dazed, grabbed the zipper and yanked it down quickly. Her eyes landed on skin as fair as a work of art, still damp. She instinctively looked away, not daring to stare anymore, listening to the rustling sounds of changing clothes, her thoughts wandering.
Lin Wenwen changed into a loose short-sleeved shirt and used the towel to dry her hair. Noticing how quiet the car had become, she turned her head and asked, “Why aren’t you talking?”
“What am I supposed to say?” Song Lingshu asked.
“I don’t know.” Lin Wenwen finished speaking, tossed the towel to her, then rested her head on Song Lingshu’s knee. “Dry my hair for me.”
Song Lingshu wrapped the towel around the sea-weed like soft hair and gently, carefully began to dry it. “Can you not swim?”
“Mm.” Lin Wenwen lifted her eyes to look at her, asking fiercely, “What, are you going to make fun of me for not knowing how to swim? Yeah, yeah, I’m spoiled rotten, I really can’t swim, so what?”
Song Lingshu burst out laughing. “How could I ever make fun of you?”
Lin Wenwen was satisfied with that, the corners of her mouth twitching, only to hear her say, “I can’t either.”
“You can’t either?” Lin Wenwen was a bit surprised. Swimming, as a basic survival skill and sport, was something ninety percent of people around her knew. She’d been teased about it for a long time as a child. She never thought she’d meet a kindred spirit now. She smiled and comforted generously, “It’s just swimming. So you can’t do it, so what? It’s not a big deal. We’re not embarrassed.”
“Mm.” Song Lingshu smiled and then asked, “Then that huge pool at your place is just for decoration?”
If she hadn’t seen the Lin family’s large pool, she never would have guessed that Lin Wenwen couldn’t swim at all, otherwise she wouldn’t have let her take the risk.
“Oh, that. It came with the house when I bought it. So I just use it to soak my feet—it’s nice and cool in the summer, and in winter you can heat it up and turn it into a hot spring.”
“…” Damn, even a rich family’s foot basin is this big!
The car arrived at the Lin residence. Lin Wenwen’s hair wasn’t dripping anymore, but it was still damp, hanging over her shoulders. She walked briskly ahead, and as she went, she suddenly raised her hand, made a dance gesture, and spun around twice.
“Why are you so happy?” Song Lingshu followed behind, watching her with a smile.
“I don’t know either. I just feel… pretty happy.” Lin Wenwen laughed and ran into the house, took the elevator up to her room. “I’m going to take a shower first. You entertain yourself for a bit.”
“Okay.”
Song Lingshu looked around. In the enormous house, the people who came and went most were the nannies. To not disturb the owner’s rest space, they had already gone back to their quarters, leaving only the butler to attend to her.
“I haven’t seen the young miss laugh like that in a long time.” The butler said to Song Lingshu, uttering the line that was bound to appear in every evil Mary Sue story.
Song Lingshu couldn’t help but laugh. She walked out onto the balcony, her gaze landing on the moonlit pool. The water’s surface shimmered, making it impossible to see the bottom, a bit dizzying.
She turned around, leaning her back against the railing, and asked the butler, “Why can’t Wenwen swim?”
“When she was learning to swim as a child, before she even got the hang of it, she got into a fight with another kid beside her. That kid pushed her into the water. After being rescued, she absolutely refused to learn anymore, and she even shaved that kid’s head bald.” The butler said.
“Why did she fight with that kid?” Song Lingshu asked curiously.
The butler: “Because that kid said her swimsuit wasn’t cute.”
Song Lingshu: “…That’s so her.”
After the butler had attended to her for a while, Song Lingshu let him go rest first. Then she came to the living room to wait for the princess to emerge from her bath.
Taking advantage of the break, she pulled out her phone and went to the forum to check on the situation with the other two sidekicks.
Unsurprisingly, the forum was flooded with posts about tonight’s drowning incident. Everyone was condemning those two troublemakers—sneakily pushing people into the water and then trying to frame Lin Wenwen for it, all in an attempt to drive a wedge between Qin Sheng and Lin Wenwen.
Some speculated that the reason Lin Wenwen and Qin Sheng had a bad relationship before, and all the stupid things she did, were actually orchestrated by those two behind the scenes.
After all, ever since Lin Wenwen broke ties with them, no major incidents had occurred between her, Qin Sheng, and Chu Yin.
The matter had become known throughout the entire school. Seniors and upperclassmen all posted about it. Since the school was full of second-generation rich and powerful kids, practically overnight, the entire upper-class circle knew about this mess.
Lin Wenwen’s parents also found out and called.
Lin Wenwen answered the phone while walking out of the bathroom door: “Mm-hmm, they just pushed me from behind, and then I fell into the water with Chu Yin. I almost died. You two better not let those little snakes off easy… What? You’re coming back?”
Her parents were busy outside every day and rarely came home. She was a little happy inside, but then she turned her head and saw Song Lingshu sitting in the living room downstairs. She thought for a moment and said, “You two come back in a couple of days. I have things to do tonight, and I have a friend over. It would be inconvenient if you came back now.”
“Oh, it’s not my boyfriend, and it’s definitely not Qin Sheng! Qin Sheng has been blinded by lard and has his eye on that poor girl now. With taste like that, he can forget ever stepping foot in the Lin family. I’ll tell you all about it when you get back.”
“I told you, it’s not a guy coming over. It’s Mu Xi. You know Mu Xi, right?”
After ending the call with her mother, Lin Wenwen stood at the corner of the staircase and called out, “Mu Xi, come up.”
“Coming.” Song Lingshu had been looking down at her phone the whole time. She was scrolling through another post. This one wasn’t about the drowning incident; it was livestreaming the dance.
Many people in it had posted photos. It was of the people on the dance floor. At first there were a lot of couples, but later the thread got flooded with pictures of her and Lin Wenwen.

Most of the pictures were candid shots, with the lights and figures a bit blurry. But Song Lingshu could see a hint of a flirtatious, ambiguous atmosphere in so many of them. By the time she realized it, she had already saved all those blurry and clear photos one by one.
“What are you looking at?” Lin Wenwen saw her engrossed in her phone and leaned over from the step to look at her screen. She caught sight of her just saving a photo of the two of them dancing, cheek to cheek.
Song Lingshu was startled and lifted her head abruptly. The two of them stared at each other, eyes wide. After a long moment, they each looked away.
“Where did you get that photo?” Lin Wenwen turned and walked upstairs.
“I saw it on the forum. I thought it was pretty.” Song Lingshu rubbed her nose and followed her up.
“What kind of creepy forum is that, always infringing on my right to my own image!” Lin Wenwen went into her room and pulled out a set of pajamas for her. “Go take a shower.”
“Huh?”
“Don’t ‘huh’ me. You’re staying over tonight.”
“Oh…”
Song Lingshu walked into the bathroom in a daze and started her shower.
Once she heard the sound of water, Lin Wenwen sneakily opened the forum, quickly searched for it, found the post, and saved every single photo. Then she lay down on the bed and scrolled through them one by one, looking at the two people in the pictures, the corners of her mouth twitching uncontrollably.
By the time Song Lingshu came out of the shower, she saw Lin Wenwen with her head resting on the edge of the bed, hair dangling down, smiling silly at her phone. She asked, “What are you looking at that’s so funny?”
“None of your business.” Lin Wenwen laughed and snorted, putting her phone away.
“Why aren’t you drying your hair?” Song Lingshu asked again.
“Wasn’t I waiting for you?” Lin Wenwen acted like a proper master, crossing her legs and snapping her fingers. “Come on, dry my hair for me.”
“I must have owed you in a past life.” Song Lingshu resignedly picked up the hairdryer, sat on the edge of the bed, and began drying her hair.
Lin Wenwen was in heaven. She lifted her eyes to look up at Song Lingshu and said emotionally, “I really wish I could have you wait on me for the rest of my life.”
Song Lingshu: “I could sell myself to you, work as a long-term laborer for life, as long as you, Princess, are willing to pay.”
“Really?” Lin Wenwen immediately asked, “How much?”
“That depends on whether you want to buy by the hour, or a monthly or yearly subscription.”
“I want a lifetime subscription!”
“Well, that’s a bit expensive. I’ll have to think it over carefully, and also factor in inflation returns.”
“Then go home and think it over properly. I’ll be waiting for good news!”
Song Lingshu smiled.
Lin Wenwen was gently blown by the warm air, her scalp massaged pleasantly, and she actually started to feel sleepy. Before she knew it, her eyes drifted shut.
Song Lingshu put down the hairdryer, looked down at the sleeping girl, and bent over to see if she was just pretending.
But just as she leaned down, Lin Wenwen’s eyes snapped open.
They both froze for a moment. The atmosphere was a little awkward. Song Lingshu explained embarrassedly, “It’s just… I was trying to see if you…”
“I just had a dream. I dreamed that while I was asleep, you snuck a kiss on me. Turns out the dream was real!” Lin Wenwen said.
“…?” How did she manage to have a sexy dream in such a short time? Truly amazing.
Lin Wenwen sat up and touched her hair. It was mostly dry. She got out of bed and started her long skincare routine, asking casually, “Do you want to put anything on your face?”
“I didn’t bring anything. Never mind.”
“Come here. I’ll let you use mine. It’s super expensive.” Lin Wenwen said.
Song Lingshu wanted to go to sleep more, but seeing her pat the stool beside her enthusiastically, she had no choice but to sit.
“Turn around.” Lin Wenwen commanded.
Song Lingshu turned around in confusion, and then Lin Wenwen pressed her hands against her face, patted lightly a few times, and started applying skincare for her.
Oh wow. The princess herself was doing her skincare. Was this kind of service really something a long-term laborer could enjoy?
Song Lingshu lifted her face, letting her rub and pat, thoroughly enjoying it.
Lin Wenwen, after finishing her own routine, would do the same for her. She said, “Just now my mom told me that Qin Sheng already made those two sidekicks’ families go bankrupt.”
“Oh wow. As expected of the Overbearing CEO. He has execution skills.” Song Lingshu laughed.
Lin Wenwen’s movements paused: “You sound like you really like him?”
“What? No way.”
“Then why did you smile when you mentioned him?”
“…”
“Do you still think he’s handsome?” Lin Wenwen pressed.
“He’s okay.”
“Liar! You definitely think he’s handsome!”
“Alright, to be fair, he really is handsome.” After all, he was the Male Lead. His personality could be terrible, but his face would never fail.
“And you say you don’t like him!” Lin Wenwen said angrily.
“Huh? I just said he was handsome.”
“That means you like him!”
Song Lingshu: “…Isn’t your definition of ‘like’ a bit too shallow?”
“And you’re mocking me!”
“I’m not!”
Lin Wenwen stopped applying skincare to her face and just stared at her, eyes full of grievance, making Song Lingshu wonder if it really was her fault.
“I really don’t like him.”
“Really?”
“Mm. Even if he looked like the god of beauty himself, I have zero interest in him. I don’t even like men.” Song Lingshu said.
Lin Wenwen blinked slowly. “What did you say?”
“I said, I don’t like men.” Song Lingshu enunciated each word clearly.
It took Lin Wenwen a while to process what she meant. Her eyes widened. “So… what do you like? Women? Or are you asexual?”
Song Lingshu raised an eyebrow. “What do you think?”
Lin Wenwen pondered for a moment, then suddenly it clicked. “You like women!”
Song Lingshu nodded.
“You like me, don’t you?!”
Song Lingshu’s nodding motion froze. “Huh?”
“Otherwise, why are you so good to me? Your WeChat only has me as a friend. Your profile picture is one I took for you. You follow me around all day, you praise me nonstop, and you…” and it’s so damn flirty!
The more Lin Wenwen thought about it, the more convinced she became: “Hmph, you definitely like me!”
Song Lingshu was left speechless by her logic.
“Say something.” Lin Wenwen said.
“I don’t know what to say.” Song Lingshu said, dazed.
“What, I hit the nail on the head, and now you’re embarrassed?” Lin Wenwen leaned forward, looking proudly at her face, and grinned arrogantly. “That’s perfectly normal. I mean, a great beauty like me appears in front of you every day—who wouldn’t be smitten? You can only blame my irresistible charm. Ah, this devastating, inescapable charm of mine.”
Song Lingshu: “…” She never expected that coming out would result in a reaction like this.
“Alright, since you’re not bad, I’ll allow you to like me.” Lin Wenwen said.
“Ah…” Song Lingshu felt like she should probably say, “Thank you, Princess, for your great favor” at this point.
“What are you ‘ah-ing’ about? Why aren’t you talking again?”
“I honestly don’t know what to say anymore.” Song Lingshu said.
Lin Wenwen’s smile faltered. “What, you don’t actually like me? Not even a little?”
“That’s not it either.”
It was precisely because she did have feelings that she was at a loss for words in this situation.
“Well, there you go.” Lin Wenwen tilted her head and asked her, “So what are you planning to do next?”
“What do you mean?”
“Pursue me, of course. Now that you like me, don’t you have some kind of pursuit plan?” Lin Wenwen pressed.
“I haven’t thought about it yet.”
“Well, take your time thinking about it. I’ll wait for you to come chase me. Let me see what other surprises you have that I don’t know about. I’m looking forward to your performance~” Lin Wenwen raised an eyebrow and curled her lips in an arrogant smile—a textbook-perfect, seductive grin.
Song Lingshu: “…”
