Chapter 135: Delight
The date and location of their “date” were rescheduled according to Lena’s suggestions.
There was no hesitation; she would help Agnes however she could.
After all, in both her past and present lives, Agnes had been kind to her, even helping to clear the Falmouth family’s name. Lena would naturally reciprocate with sincerity.
Besides, she had already achieved her goals, not only strengthening her relationship with Agnes but also obtaining information about the little fox girl, a win-win situation.
Lena smiled to herself, walking along the academy path.
The late summer breeze carried a faint scent of dust, dry but not stifling, a harbinger of autumn.
Most people would stock up on supplies during this time, preparing for the coming winter and its high prices.
So, Lena wasn’t surprised to see students leaving the campus with bags and packages.
It was an annual tradition, a sort of festival, lasting one to three days, even the students of Saint Lorenzo Academy participated, indulging in the shopping spree…
“Oh ho.”
Lena saw Vanessa being jostled by the crowd, like a small boat adrift at sea.
The petite girl with long hair wasn’t using her Rotten Wood Carpet, and her large robes offered no protection, making her stumble and almost fall several times. Fortunately, she had protected her head with her hands.
“Hmph…” Vanessa also noticed Lena.
She didn’t say anything, her face pressed against the crowd, her eyes seemingly questioning Lena’s inaction.
“Good afternoon, Miss Vanessa Cavendish.”
Lena, having been spotted, greeted Vanessa, walking towards her.
Vanessa stepped back slightly, her long, dark blue hair tied up with a rope, resembling a large banana leaf.
She was carrying this heavy “leaf,” moving awkwardly through the crowd…
“I don’t want to see your face, please disappear from my sight.”
Vanessa’s expression was cold, her eyes filled with hostility and disgust.
Lena paused, a flicker of annoyance.
This young lady had a terrible temper. She had only offered a greeting, was that so offensive?
“But you’ve already seen me, and you’re asking me to leave, is this your living room?”
Lena smiled, her sarcasm evident.
She wasn’t one to meddle, but Vanessa’s unreasonable behavior warranted some teasing.
“I think you should have heard…”
“Heard what?”
“Well, it seems Angel hasn’t told you yet, so allow me to explain.”
The crowd dispersed.
Lena looked at the girl with long hair across the street, her robes concealing her feet, even her hands hidden in her wide sleeves, difficult to retrieve.
A strand of hair swayed in the breeze, framing her delicate, pale face, bare of makeup, yet so beautiful it was intimidating.
Such a beautiful girl, aloof and ethereal.
It was a pity her personality was so terrible, otherwise, Lena would love to hear her voice during… certain activities, whether she would curse or moan, or remain as cold and distant as she was now, the contrast would be exciting…
Delightful~
“I’m engaged,” Lena said, meeting Vanessa’s gaze.
“So what?” Vanessa’s expression remained cold, like a winter cave. “I don’t care if you marry an ogre, should I congratulate that unlucky girl?”
“Angel is my fiancée.”
Lena revealed the truth, crossing her arms, enjoying Vanessa’s changing expressions, from indifference to shock, then to anger.
“Angel would never marry someone like you, you must have tricked her!!”
“Believe it or not, you can ask her yourself,” Lena said casually.
“I don’t believe it, I refuse to believe it!”
Vanessa’s anger flared, glaring at Lena.
The fire in her eyes threatened to consume her reason, her chest heaving. “What did you do? Why would my father agree to such an absurd engagement? That bastard!!”
“I must say, your insults are quite creative. It’s precisely because of your father’s greed that I succeeded~”
Lena added fuel to the fire, not lying.
After all, Angel’s father, Wilder Cavendish, had wholeheartedly approved of the marriage. The Falmouths had filled the Cavendish family’s warehouse with gifts, promising that once Angel married Lena, the gifts would belong to Wilder.
Angel would never forget the look of ecstasy on her father’s face…
As if he had just sold off a chicken or a dog, exchanging his daughter for a fortune.
Angel had been heartbroken.
Lena had comforted her, the details best left unsaid, but Angel had eventually accepted the situation, becoming the mistress of the Falmouth mansion.
After hearing Lena’s words, Vanessa stood frozen, her fists clenched, the veins on her neck bulging, as if she was about to explode.
Vanessa knew her father was a greedy man, profiting from Angel, and she would be next. She had been traveling and training all these years, trying to escape his control, to escape the Cavendish family, but her efforts had been in vain, her sister had been married off before her.
Lena smiled faintly. “I think this is a good thing, your sister is happy, and I don’t mind, everyone wins, guess who’s the most upset?”
“I’m going to ask Wilder!”
Vanessa couldn’t stay calm, facing Lena’s taunts.
Her anger was evident, even forgetting to address her father with respect, although Wilder wasn’t a good father, more like a despicable scoundrel.
“Go ahead, if you can find him.”
Lena was good at breaking people’s facades, exposing their vulnerabilities. “Your father has already run away with the money, you won’t find him, because he has abandoned you, taking all of the Cavendish family’s assets, leaving nothing behind.”
“What?!” Vanessa was shocked again.
Lena shrugged. “I’m not lying, you’ve been cooped up in the library, oblivious to the outside world. On the day of the engagement, Wilder Cavendish packed his bags and left, he’s probably on a ferry to the Third Empire by now…”
A fallen noble, upon gaining wealth, had chosen to abandon his two daughters without hesitation.
Even Lena looked down on Wilder’s actions.
But it was their family matter, she had no right to interfere, at least Angel and Vanessa were still pure, untainted.
