Chapter 210: What Are You Doing Here?
They wandered around, the three of them stopping at a peculiar stall.
“What can I get for you, ladies?”
A man in a clown mask enthusiastically presented his wares, his painted teardrop face always turned towards Lena with a fawning smile.
“Do you know him?”
Angel asked, suspicious.
“We’ve met,” Lena shrugged, feigning indifference. “He’s quite resourceful, even managing to set up a stall at the circus.”
“Well, the arena business isn’t doing so well, I have to make a living somehow.”
The clown took off his mask, revealing the familiar face of the rabbit man.
Just then—
“Rabbit! Rabbit!!”
Jonathan emerged from behind the stall, his large frame immediately attracting attention.
His muscular body, and his two large, curled mustaches, gave him a surprisingly cute appearance.
Lena recognized him from the arena in the Fran Black Market.
“Long time no see.”
“Oh?”
Jonathan also recognized Lena, clapping his hands together. “This is… haha! Miss Lena’s presence brings honor to our humble establishment!”
He was much more flattering than before, and Lena wondered why he had left the thriving arena to set up a stall at the circus.
Jonathan gave the rabbit man a look, and the latter, with a wide smile, invited Lena and her companions inside, about to serve them tea, but Lena stopped him. “How much for the rings? I’ll take a few.”
“Miss Lena, please, take as many as you like, no need to talk about ‘buying’…”
The rabbit man, afraid of Lena’s status, and even more so of angering her and being blacklisted by Diana, was incredibly polite.
They all knew about Lena and Diana’s engagement, to be held in the spring, so being respectful now was the wisest choice.
“I’ll pay for what I take, I’m not one to take advantage of others.”
Lena took a few rings, handing them to Angel, teaching her how to play the ring toss game.
“If I get it, it’s mine?”
Angel was eager to try.
It seemed simple enough, perfect for a beginner like her.
“Try and see,” Lena said, watching with amusement.
“Heh!”
Angel took a stance, throwing the ring.
But she didn’t use enough force, and the ring fell short of the prize.
“So close…”
Angel grumbled, then composed herself.
The rabbit man chuckled, reminding her, “A little more force, young lady.”
“I know, I know.”
Angel took another stance, this time a little too forcefully, the colorful ring flying through the air, passing over a “bald head” and landing around the neck of a burly man.
“Whoa…”
Angel covered her mouth, embarrassed.
She wanted a prize, but not a bald head…
“Here you go, young lady, as long as it doesn’t hit the ground, it doesn’t count, you can try again.” Jonathan removed the ring, his large hand stroking his bald head, his expression endearingly goofy.
“Thank you!”
Angel smiled sweetly.
Her charm was irresistible.
Diana, watching, was slightly dazed.
She remembered when her mother was still alive, she had been just like her sister, always pestering her mother to play with her, she used to smile back then.
But now, she had forgotten how to smile, how to find…
Diana shook her head, composing herself.
“Do you want to play?”
Lena offered her a handful of rings.
Vanessa pursed her lips. “Not interested.”
“They’re the last ones, it would be a waste not to use them.”
Lena’s hand was in front of Vanessa’s chest, but her gaze was fixed on Angel, like a camera, capturing every moment of her beloved wife.
“…Fine.”
Vanessa took the rings, feigning indifference.
She was bored anyway, might as well kill some time.
Vanessa would never admit she wanted to play!
She was just helping Lena get rid of these cheap, defective rings!
Yes!
Lena should be thanking her!!
Another girl, similar in appearance, joined Angel.
They were about the same height, both stunningly beautiful, but their demeanors were vastly different.
“Sister?”
“How many did you get?”
“A small turtle, and some other trinkets…” Angel pouted, the seemingly simple game proving to be quite difficult, she couldn’t control her strength.
“Which one do you want?” Vanessa asked.
“The one in the middle, the tallest one, the porcelain vase, it would look beautiful with flowers in my room,” Angel said dreamily, as if already smelling the flowers. “Can you get it for me, sister?”
“Hmph, leave it to me.”
Vanessa’s expression was serious, her voice confident.
She adopted a different stance from Angel, holding the ring, her eyes narrowed, judging the distance…
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—
The rings flew through the air like divine weapons, hitting the vase with three consecutive strikes.
Vanessa looked up, a fond expression on her face. “Go get it yourself.”
“Wow! Sister, you’re amazing!”
Angel clapped excitedly. “I tried so many times and couldn’t get it, how did you do it?!”
“A small matter, just observe others’ movements, and you’ll quickly get the hang of it.”
Vanessa possessed exceptional spatial awareness, her mind a powerful calculator, allowing her to make the most accurate judgments instantly.
The ring toss was child’s play for her.
“As expected of my sister.”
Angel nodded obediently, her eyes filled with admiration.
“Hmph.” Vanessa ruffled Angel’s hair, a smile on her face. “What else do you want? I’ll get it for you.”
“That’s great! Sister is the best!”
“Hmph~”
Enjoying her sister’s sweet words, Vanessa was in high spirits, the two of them playing happily, their laughter echoing.
And Lena, having slipped away, was now alone, at the edge of the circus.
This place was strange.
The dilapidated buildings and rusty amusement park rides created a surreal atmosphere, as if possessed by some unknown entity, incredibly creepy.
The circus’s magic lights cast a dim, eerie green glow on the gray walls and carpets, making it even more terrifying.
Lena disliked such places, and she quickly moved to another area.
The sky darkened.
It seemed a storm was brewing.
Lena scanned her surroundings, her steps slowing, her nerves on edge…
“Lena.”
A sudden voice made Lena jump, and she turned to see who it was.
“What are you doing here?!”
