Chapter 19
The words, almost identical to those from their wedding night, made Chu Xihuan fall silent for a moment.
She discovered that although Lin Zhao seemed easy to bully, her courage was a mix of timidity and boldness.
She had just been rejected last night, but after a little bit of kindness today, she was already pushing her luck.
“Go ahead,” Chu Xihuan said lightly.
She had already let her scrub her back. What was the harm in just holding her while they slept?
Even if she wasn’t used to it now, she would get used to it eventually.
Lin Zhao’s eyes instantly lit up. She was both nervous and excited. She carefully turned to face Chu Xihuan and placed her hand on her waist.
After pulling Chu Xihuan into her arms, Lin Zhao couldn’t control her desires. Her grip tightened, and she buried her face in Chu Xihuan’s neck and shoulder.
So fragrant… smells so good…
So comforting…
Chu Xihuan was speechless.
Although she had agreed to let Lin Zhao hold her while they slept, she hadn’t expected her to hold her like this…
What was with this desire to shrink into her arms?
A bit of heat crept up Chu Xihuan’s cheeks. She turned her head slightly, trying to avoid Lin Zhao’s breath on her skin.
The skin on her neck was too thin…
The sensation was too distinct…
Chu Xihuan opened her eyes, a hint of embarrassment in them.
Was this Lin Zhao a monkey? How was she so good at taking a mile when given an inch?
“Can you sleep comfortably like this?” Chu Xihuan couldn’t help but ask.
She felt that if they slept like this, she probably wouldn’t be able to sleep well.
Lin Zhao opened her eyes and carefully looked up at her. However, in the darkness of the room, she could only vaguely make out Chu Xihuan’s silhouette, unable to see her expression.
“Actually, it’s quite comfortable. If you let me put my leg on you, it would probably be even more comfortable.”
Chu Xihuan was speechless.
She smiled. “Lin Zhao, I just remembered that I haven’t taught you to read today, have I?”
Lin Zhao was taken aback, not expecting the topic to change so suddenly.
She was a little apprehensive. “I-I don’t think so?”
She pouted. She actually didn’t want to learn to read at all. She didn’t think she was cut out for studying.
Otherwise, her old teacher wouldn’t have angrily called her a “ruzi” (a pun on “rotten wood,” meaning unteachable) or talked about “playing the zither to a cow.”
“It’s not convenient to write and teach you now that we’re already in bed, but I can teach you a word first, and then write it for you tomorrow,” Chu Xihuan said in a gentle tone that was inexplicably unnerving.
Lin Zhao blinked and asked cautiously, “What word?”
What word was so important that it had to be taught now?
Chu Xihuan smiled. “Dé cùn jìn chǐ (to take a mile when given an inch). It’s an idiom. Do you know what it means?”
Lin Zhao honestly shook her head, then said proudly, “But I know the characters for ‘cùn’ (inch) and ‘chǐ’ (foot).”
Chu Xihuan said, “…Very good. Then this phrase means that you’ve already gotten an inch, but you still want a foot. Do you know what kind of behavior that is?”
Being questioned like this made Lin Zhao even more nervous. She held Chu Xihuan tighter, loving the feeling of their bodies pressed together and not wanting to let go.
“Does it mean to be ambitious and promising?” Lin Zhao wracked her brains and gave an answer.
Being held even tighter, to the point where she could feel Lin Zhao’s soft body pressing against her more clearly, and then hearing her answer, Chu Xihuan felt a sense of frustration.
How did this person come up with that answer?
She had already explained it, and she still came up with that?
Should she praise Lin Zhao for being such a positive person?
Not hearing her speak, Lin Zhao pouted, knowing that she was probably not satisfied with her answer. “Then you tell me what it means,” she said sullenly.
She felt that her answer was very fitting. Why was it wrong!
Chu Xihuan patted the hand on her waist and smiled. “Naturally, it means you’re greedy. Oh, ‘greedy’ means you’re avaricious.”
At the end, Chu Xihuan, afraid she wouldn’t understand, thoughtfully explained further.
Lin Zhao’s eyes widened in disbelief. She couldn’t believe that she was being called greedy and avaricious.
Her brow furrowed, as if she were a little wronged. “Why would you say that about me? I’m not greedy.”
In her mind, “greedy” referred to the people of the Lin clan. They were all so detestable! Even more detestable than her being a loafer!
She was not that detestable.
Chu Xihuan closed her mouth, feeling a little tired. She felt like she was playing the zither to a cow.
“Why aren’t you talking anymore?” Lin Zhao’s voice was mournful. She couldn’t stand it when Chu Xihuan had nothing to say to her.
She had so much she wanted to say to Chu Xihuan.
Chu Xihuan took a deep breath and suddenly turned over, covering Lin Zhao’s mouth.
“Shut up and go to sleep.”
After the homecoming visit tomorrow, she was going to make Lin Zhao write the characters for “dé cùn jìn chǐ” and “greedy” a hundred times!
Chu Xihuan felt that she should also copy the Heart Sutra, or she would be angered to death by Lin Zhao.
Lin Zhao’s eyes widened slightly. An intoxicating fragrance washed over her, followed by her mouth being covered.
Mmm…
So soft…
Initially a little cool, as it pressed against her skin, it warmed up like the jade ring hanging around her neck.
I love it!
Chu Xihuan keenly sensed the change in the person’s breathing and only then realized that their current position was a bit too intimate.
She bit her lip slightly, a hint of shyness in her eyes. She felt that she had been driven mad by Lin Zhao’s anger.
She wanted to pull her hand back, but as soon as she moved it a little, it was pressed back into place by another hand.
Chu Xihuan was speechless.
“Xihuan, you smell so good, and your hand is so soft.”
Lin Zhao’s praise was muffled but sincere.
Chu Xihuan was speechless.
She was really going to be angered to death by Lin Zhao.
Was this person such a flirt?
“If you don’t let go, you can go and sleep on the floor,” Chu Xihuan said woodenly.
She was so angry she was almost out of temper.
Lin Zhao immediately pulled her hand back, then hugged Chu Xihuan tightly again, burying her face in her neck and shoulder. “Going to sleep. Goodnight, Xihuan,” she said in a muffled voice.
Then, she even started to snore, as if to prove it.
Not even a convincing act!
“Be quiet, it’s so noisy,” Chu Xihuan said in annoyance.
The snoring immediately stopped.
Chu Xihuan ignored her and let out a long sigh, trying to ignore their current position and the trembling sensation of the other person’s breath on her skin.
She also found it a little amusing.
Alright, with this shamelessness, this person did have a bit of a loafer in her.
That night, both of them had a hard time falling asleep. Lin Zhao was too excited to sleep, while Chu Xihuan was not used to sleeping so intimately.
The next day, both of them woke up looking haggard. However, they had the homecoming visit today, so they had to pull themselves together to get ready.
Without a maid, Chu Xihuan had to do her own makeup.
She carefully applied her makeup in front of a bronze mirror, but the mirror was not very clear. Afraid that it wasn’t perfect, Chu Xihuan turned to Lin Zhao, who was sitting to the side, waiting eagerly.
“Help me see if my eyebrows are the same color. And is the powder on my face even and smooth?”
Lin Zhao looked at Chu Xihuan’s face. The haggardness was mostly concealed, and you couldn’t tell unless you looked closely. And with makeup on her already bright and beautiful face, she looked even more stunning.
Lin Zhao was so captivated she couldn’t look away. She nodded repeatedly. “Beautiful, beautiful. The color is the same, and the powder is smooth.”
My wife is so beautiful!!!
Lin Zhao puffed out her chest with pride.
Chu Xihuan nodded in satisfaction and finally applied a little lipstick.
Lin Zhao looked at her lips after she had applied the lipstick, her eyes flickering. She bit her lip slightly, unable to look away.
It made her look much healthier, and also more kissable.
Lin Zhao pouted. But her wife wouldn’t let her kiss her.
So sad.
