Chapter 55: Getting into Your Bed (Part 2)
This ghost is playing with Ping An’s life!
Sang Jing didn’t speak, but typed on the screen.
【Sang Jing: Go and turn on the lights. Don’t look at her and don’t speak. Turn on the TV and turn the volume to the maximum.】
Ping An’s mother nodded, took a deep breath, and stood up. With a “click,” she turned on the living room lights. The room immediately brightened. Ping An’s eyes were stung, and she blinked, then looked at her mother with tears in her eyes.
Ping An’s mother didn’t look at her but sat down on the sofa and turned on the TV. It happened to be playing an opera. She kept turning up the volume, and the whole house was filled with the sound of the opera.
【Sang Jing: Find a chance to open the door. Don’t close it tightly. Leave a crack.】
Ping An’s mother saw this message. She pretended to look at her phone, then clutched her stomach. “I’m suddenly hungry in the middle of the night. Why hasn’t the takeout arrived yet?”
With that, she got up and went to the door, as if to open it and see if the takeout had arrived.
“It’s not here yet,” Ping An’s mother muttered and closed the door, but as Sang Jing had said, she didn’t close it tightly.
The sound of the opera came out and echoed in the corridor, one after another.
Soon, the sound of a door opening came from outside.
“Who is it! Not sleeping in the middle of the night and listening to opera? Isn’t it creepy!”
“So rude! Have you no public decency? Do you own the community?”
A moment later, the two families next to Ping An’s came over, their anger from being woken up showing.
“Ping An’s mom, what are you doing? How can we sleep with the TV so loud and the door not closed? We still have to work tomorrow,” a young girl who had just graduated said, suppressing her anger.
The other two were a young couple. They weren’t asleep yet, but they couldn’t stand the sound of the opera and came out to see.
Ping An’s mother apologized while holding up her phone to the living room.
“He’s gone,” Sang Jing’s voice came from the phone.
Ping An’s mother immediately let out a sigh of relief. Her body went limp, and she was about to fall. Ye Qiao, who had been unhappy just now, quickly reached out to support her, all her anger gone. “Hey, hey, hey, Ping An’s mom, are you alright?”
Seeing her like this, the young couple couldn’t say anything. They followed Ye Qiao and helped Ping An’s mother into the house, and also turned off the TV.
Ye Qiao was about to go back to sleep when she turned her head and saw Ping An sitting at the table, her face looking terrible. She was so scared that she screamed.
The young couple also noticed Ping An. They had seen Ping An before, a very polite and fair little girl. They hadn’t seen her for a week, and how had she become so thin? Her eyes were almost bulging out.
“Ping An’s mom, Ping An is…” Ye Qiao said with concern. “You should take her to the hospital to have a look. This is a serious illness.”
“Yes, yes,” the round-faced girl said, huddling in her sister’s arms. “Ping An is still young. You can’t delay if she’s really sick.”
Ping An’s mother caught her breath and quickly held up her phone to look at the screen. “Sang Sang, he’s, he’s gone? Then is Ping An alright?”
Sang Jing shook her head. “No. This time, we just scared him away. When he comes again tomorrow night, this trick won’t work.”
Ye Qiao craned her neck to look at the streamer on the screen. She felt a little familiar, as if she had seen her somewhere before.
She remembered the streamer’s name and searched for it on the side. She was so shocked her eyes widened.
A Celestial Master!? Metaphysics!?
Ye Qiao turned to look at Ping An. Just now, she had thought her face was sickly. Now, she didn’t know if it was a psychological effect or if she had come to her senses, but the more she looked, the more strange it became, and the more wrong it felt.
The round-faced girl and her sister on the side looked at each other, then at Ye Qiao. The three of them quietly moved together and entered Sang Jing’s livestreaming room.
Sometimes, when curiosity strikes, it can’t be stopped. Knowing that Ping An was not just simply sick, the sleepiness in the three of them’s eyes completely disappeared. Ye Qiao didn’t even think about work anymore. If it weren’t for the inappropriate occasion, she would have even wanted to get some melon seeds.
“Then, then what should I do?” Ping An’s mother’s eyes were red. She went over and pulled the dazed Ping An over to sit down. “He, why did he latch onto our Ping An?”
Sang Jing recalled what she had said before. They had gone back to their hometown for a funeral, and the incident had happened after they came back.
“How did the elder in the neighbor’s family in your hometown die?” Sang Jing asked her.
Ping An’s mother was stunned for a moment, not knowing why she was asking this, but she still answered honestly. “Old Man Zhang? He died of illness. He was bedridden for half a year. His son didn’t want to treat him and didn’t take much care of him. He was also a pitiful person.”
Two families had funerals, one a happy funeral and the other a person who had died of illness with no one to care for him.
Sang Jing asked again, “Then were there two paper effigies among Old Man Zhang’s funeral items?”
Ping An’s mother nodded. “Yes, yes, yes. His son said that burning paper effigies could bring them down below to take care of Old Man Zhang.”
He didn’t take care of him when he was alive, but he was so filial after he died.
A look of understanding flashed in Sang Jing’s eyes. “Do you know who is playing cards with Ping An every night?”
Thinking of what Sang Jing had just asked, how could Ping An’s mother not understand the deep meaning of this sentence?
She stood up abruptly and heard Sang Jing confirm her thoughts. “It’s your neighbor, Old Man Zhang, and those two paper effigies. He’s gambling with Ping An’s life.”
“He’s already dead! Why is he still harming Ping An? I even felt sorry for him and would take Ping An to bring him food and drink in the past. Now that he’s dead, why isn’t he harming his ungrateful son? Why is he harming our Ping An!?” Ping An’s mother cried, hugging Ping An and stroking her daughter’s face, her eyes filled with hatred.
【It’s not that I’m saying this, but there are more and more crazy people now. Not only are people crazy, but ghosts are too. It’s so strange. Did the little girl provoke you? To harm someone like this.】
【This dead old man must have been petty and couldn’t stand to see the neighbor have a happy funeral, while he himself had suffered and died of illness. He must have been unbalanced.】
【The person above has found the truth. So he came to torment the child.】
【Ping An is such a good name, meaning peace and safety. This damn old man deserved to be left to die of illness.】
【Gambling with life? What does he need a lifespan for? Can he come back from the dead?】
【Some people are just evil seeds. They’re useless themselves and don’t want others to have a good life.】
Ping An’s mother knelt down to Sang Jing through the screen, which startled the three people beside her, who hurried to pull her up.
Sang Jing turned the screen away. She had already received the fee. It would be inappropriate for Ping An’s mother to kneel to her again.
“It’s alright, Ping An will be fine. Take out the clothes and shoes she wore when she went back to her hometown and burn them. And also burn some incense and paper for your family’s elders, and then complain properly,” Sang Jing continued. “Give me your family’s address later. I’ll send a talisman for Ping An. That old man is petty. If he comes again in the future, you can teach him a lesson.”
Sang Jing said it was a lesson, but if that talisman were to burn on a ghost, it would make him wish he could die again.
“Alright, alright, thank you, thank you,” Ping An’s mother nodded repeatedly and immediately sent her home address.
After hanging up the link-up, Ping An’s mother realized that there were still three people in her house. Only then did she remember that she had disturbed them just now, and she quickly apologized to them again.
Ye Qiao and the others knew that Ping An’s mother had turned on the TV for Ping An’s sake, and they were very understanding. After saying a few words of comfort, they went back.
Ping An’s mother sat with Ping An for a while and was about to pack the clothes she had worn when she went back to her hometown to burn them, but the doorbell rang.
Ping An’s mother was a little puzzled. Who could it be in the middle of the night?
She opened the door and saw a beautiful and exquisite woman with big waves standing at her door.
“You are?”
Shen Lan was not at all annoyed by being arranged in the middle of the night. She smiled and said, “I was sent by Sang Jing. Your daughter’s name is Ping An, right? This is a talisman. Put it on Ping An, and this kind of thing won’t happen again in the future.”
Ping An’s mother took the talisman. It was unclear if it was an illusion, but the light talisman paper made her feel much more energetic.
“Thank you, thank you,” Ping An’s mother wanted to invite Shen Lan in for a drink of water, but Shen Lan refused and only told her to do as Sang Jing had said.
Ping An’s mother nodded, went back into the house, and put the talisman on Ping An. Then she quickly packed the clothes, took the incense and paper to a nearby temple, and began to burn them. As she burned the incense, she cried, cursed, and complained.
After wearing the talisman, Ping An became a little clearer. She lay on the bed, huddled under the blanket, her body still trembling uncontrollably.
A moment later, she suddenly heard the curtains move. Just like the past few nights, Old Man Zhang from next door had come to play cards with her again. She didn’t know how to play at all and had never won a single round. And that old man even wanted to gamble with her lifespan. In the past few days, she had already lost thirty or forty years of her lifespan.
“Ping An…”
It was Old Man Zhang!
Ping An squeezed her eyes shut, covered her ears with her hands, and cried in fear.
Her chest suddenly felt hot. Ping An reacted and quickly grabbed the talisman.
The curtains were blown by the wind, and Ping An’s teeth were chattering.
“Ah!!!”
A painful scream suddenly sounded in her ear, and then the curtains stopped moving.
Old Man Zhang was in so much pain he was rolling on the ground, as if he were back on his deathbed, tormented by his illness until he was no longer human.
Just as he was in unbearable pain, an angry voice exploded—
“Old Man Zhang! You’re dead, and you’re still harming my child!”
A ghostly figure pounced on Old Man Zhang and beat him, one slap after another, one punch after another. Old Man Zhang had just been hit by the talisman and couldn’t break free at all. He could only take the beating.
After a full half an hour of beating, a cold voice stopped the entangled ghost. “That’s enough.”
Old Man Zhang looked up and saw two ghost emissaries.
The ghost emissary flicked his soul-reaping chain, which directly wrapped around Old Man Zhang’s neck, and mercilessly pulled him up. “Zhang Lei, you used paper effigies to avoid the ghost emissaries and even dared to do evil and harm people in the mortal world. Let’s go. It’s time to go down below and prepare for your punishment.”
*
The darkened room was silent.
Xie Yu lay on the sofa with her eyes open.
“Sang Jing, are you asleep?”
“No.”
Xie Yu sat up at once and came to the head of the bed, squatting.
Sang Jing had been lying on her side, facing the side of the bed. Feeling Xie Yu run over, she turned over and lay flat. “If you have something to say, say it.”
“I’ve got the certificate. Do you have anything to do tomorrow? Can you go shopping with me to buy clothes? I’ve been wearing this for three months. I don’t know when I’ll be able to recover my memories. What if it’s another three months? Can you stand having a ghost who hasn’t changed her clothes for half a year by your side?”
Sang Jing opened her eyes, turned her head to look at her, and her gaze fell on her overcoat.
If she had opened her Yin Eye, she would have been able to see the deep and shallow bloodstains on the overcoat.
“Sang Jing, I’ve never been shopping with anyone before. Didn’t you say not to have any regrets when you leave?”
Sang Jing looked at her and suddenly said, “You haven’t recovered your memories yet. How do you know you’ve never been shopping with anyone before?”
Xie Yu: “…”
This mouth is really something.
“Are you going or not? If not, I’m getting into your bed,” Xie Yu said and stood up, about to lift her blanket.
Sang Jing was so scared she sat up at once. “Xie Yu! You dare!”
“Are you going or not? Are you going or not?”
“I’m going, I’m going, I’m going!”
