Chapter 36: Return p1
Her phone was filled with a jumble of messages. It was truly lively, so lively that Yu Chujin often had the illusion that she was not alone.
But whether she was lonely or not, only she knew.
She pouted, turned off her phone, and didn’t reply to any of the messages. There was no need to.
“A lot of people are looking for you. The message notifications keep ringing,” the girl said with a smile, “You have a lot of friends.”
Yu Chujin was choked, “Sister, you really know how to hit where it hurts.”
The girl was stunned for a moment, “Huh? Did I hit where it hurts?”
Yu Chujin: “You saw it too. When I was in trouble, even my parents didn’t care about me, let alone these people. Do you still think I have a lot of friends?”
The girl scratched her head, not knowing how to respond at all. She wanted to comfort her, but seeing her smiling, it seemed she didn’t need much comfort.
Yu Chujin lowered her head and operated her phone. Soon, the girl’s phone made a “ding dong” sound.
It was a transfer notification.
“No, you just bought a phone. The money you borrowed from me wasn’t this much. Did you accidentally transfer too much?”
Yu Chujin’s tone was casual, “No, the extra two thousand is for your trouble. I didn’t know who to contact when I just got off the ship. Thank you for your help.”
The girl didn’t speak and silently clicked on the refund.
“Why did you refund it?”
“It’s a small matter to help. I came to help because I consider you a friend. There’s no need for a fee for your trouble.”
Yu Chujin was stunned for a moment, “Friend?”
The girl raised an eyebrow, “You’ve made a lot of insincere friends. Are you surprised to meet someone who isn’t after your money?”
It was indeed very surprising.
She and the girl were not very close, but it was this not-so-close friend who had helped her contact her parents after her accident and had come to help her when she was alone and helpless just after disembarking.
As for the group of friends she used to treat every day, not a single shadow could be seen.
Yu Chujin thought for a moment, nodded in understanding, and lowered her head to operate her phone again.
Soon, the girl received another transfer, more money than before.
Yu Chujin blinked, “Yes, friend. I’ve made you a friend. I’ll transfer more money to you. I’m most generous to my friends.”
The girl: “…”
She finally knew why Yu Chujin had a lot of friends, but when something really happened, not a single person came to help.
Purely making friends with money. What kind of people would that attract?
Weren’t they all just treating her as a sucker? After all, it would be a waste not to take advantage of such a sucker. The girl said that she was even a little tempted to get a large sum of money from Yu Chujin…
“Do you know where there’s a mall nearby? I need to change my clothes. It’s a bit inappropriate to dress like this,” Yu Chujin tugged at the floral short-sleeved shirt on her body, a favorite of grandmothers in their sixties and seventies.
“Alright, I’ll take you there,” the girl led the way.
She went to the mall to change her clothes, then went to a restaurant for a meal.
It was an old chain restaurant that she used to like to eat at, but perhaps because she had been on the island for more than two months with only bland food, her taste had changed.
The table was full of dishes, but they were all too salty, too heavy, and too spicy. After surviving on a deserted island for a period of time, a person who had a preference for heavy-flavored dishes was no longer used to heavy flavors.
The last dish was a salmon dish. The thin slices of fish were placed on ice, steaming, giving a sense of being surrounded by clouds.
Yu Chujin looked at the salmon on the table and was stunned for a moment.
She didn’t know if the large snake had caught any salmon.
She picked up a slice of fish and put it in her mouth. She frowned. The fish was fresh, but it definitely couldn’t compare to the live and kicking salmon that the large snake had brought back.
She took a piece of tissue and spat the fish out. She was still unable to get used to raw food, no matter what kind of fish it was.
The salmon that the large snake had brought back before, she had first tried to eat it as sashimi. After two pieces, she couldn’t get used to it and had roasted the rest.
Her thoughts inevitably drifted back to the large snake.
Yu Chujin shook her head and stopped thinking about these things. It was useless to think about them.
After she had settled down, she would go back to see it when she had the chance.
However, as for how to go back to see the large snake, it still needed to be considered. She couldn’t just rent a boat and have someone take her there.
That was too dangerous. Who knew what kind of person the boatman was? Maybe, just as they were approaching the island, the boatman would discover the large snake.
That silly snake, what if it got excited and even tried to climb onto the boat? Then it would be observed up close by a stranger.
No, no, no. Once the large snake was discovered by others, it would be bad.
She couldn’t rent a boat to go there. Then could she go there by herself in a boat?
She had a way to get a boat, but she had to get a license before she could drive a boat, right? Not everyone could drive a boat, and getting a license would take a lot of time.
Forget it, forget it. She wouldn’t think about these things for now. That snake had originally lived alone on the sea. It couldn’t be that it would get into trouble just because she had left.
With or without her, it, a single snake, could live a good life.
“What’s wrong? Is the food not good?” the girl saw that her expression was strange, “It can’t be that you’ve been on the island for so long and have starved so much that you’re about to cry while eating.”
“That’s not it. I’ve already been eating and drinking well on the ship for a week. I’m just a little… I miss my Da Huang a little.”
“The dog you keep?”
“Yes, I’ve had him for several years.”
“Then in these two months, your dog must have starved to death.”
“No, I always ask someone to take care of my dog before I go on a long trip.”
After a hasty meal, she said goodbye to the girl. Yu Chujin immediately bought a plane ticket home.
She didn’t know how her dog was doing. After being away for more than two months, could it still recognize its owner?
When she had set off to play with the paraglider, her plan was to go back in a week. When she set off, she had entrusted Da Huang to her neighbor to take care of.
Unexpectedly, this one week had turned into 77 days.
Yu Chujin was not worried about Da Huang’s safety. Her neighbor was very reliable. Even if she had been out of touch for two months, her neighbor must have taken good care of Da Huang.
The house Yu Chujin lived in was a detached villa, close to her neighbor, with their yards next to each other.
As for her relationship with her neighbor, it was just so-so. Her neighbor had a dog, and she also had a dog. They were dog-walking buddies.
Their relationship ended there. As for what her neighbor’s name was and what she did for a living, she had never tried to find out.
The security in the villa community was very strict. When she entered the community, she was stopped by the security guard.
The facial recognition machine at the community entrance actually didn’t recognize her…
Yu Chujin didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She knew she had lost a lot of weight and had gotten a lot darker, but she hadn’t expected it to be so exaggerated that even the machine couldn’t recognize her.
After entering the community, she didn’t go home immediately. Instead, she lay in front of her neighbor’s yard and peeked in.
“Da Huang!” Yu Chujin called out.
The yard was quiet, and there was no response. The neighbor probably had the dog locked in the house before she left.
Yu Chujin was about to go home first when she heard,
Thump.
A yellow figure jumped out of the window.
The yellow figure shot out and ran towards her.
Yu Chujin’s eyes lit up. It was her Da Huang!
Da Huang jumped out of the window, then out of the yard, and pounced on her.
The dog seemed to have gained weight in the past two months. Its heavy body pounced on her, and Yu Chujin almost couldn’t stand it.
The dog’s tail was wagging crazily, and it was whimpering, unbelievably enthusiastic.
“Da Huang, you still recognize me? The facial recognition machine at the community entrance didn’t recognize me just now. You’re more reliable than a machine.”
“Woof, woof, woof!”
“Alright, alright, calm down. Hahahaha, stop pouncing on me. You’re so heavy, you silly dog.”
Da Huang frantically nuzzled against her, sticking to her, its tail about to become a propeller.
After pouncing on her for a while, it lay on the ground and showed its belly.
It was so enthusiastic that it would be a shame to disappoint it. Yu Chujin squatted down and rubbed its belly.
“Creak.”
The yard gate was opened.
Yu Chujin looked up and saw her neighbor, a woman in her early thirties, wearing a gray knitted sweater, her long hair draped over her shoulders, looking gentle.
“How did you end up like this?” the neighbor sister said in surprise.
“I went to a mine to dig coal for a while,” Yu Chujin said with a smile, teasing.
The neighbor was silent for a moment.
Yu Chujin stood up and thanked her sincerely, “Thank you for taking care of Da Huang during this period. I really couldn’t come back on time due to some unexpected circumstances. I’ve troubled you. You’ve taken good care of Da Huang. It’s even gotten fatter.”
The neighbor looked at her, a hint of worry in her eyes, “You’ve lost so much weight. Are you sick? Do you want me to accompany you to the hospital?”
“It’s nothing. I’ll go to the hospital. I was just worried about Da Huang, so I came back to see it first.”
After a few words of small talk with her neighbor, Yu Chujin said, “Well, I’ll take Da Huang back first.”
The neighbor nodded.
Just as she was about to take Da Huang home, unexpectedly, Da Huang, which had been sticking to her tightly just now, became uncooperative.
Da Huang turned around and went back to the neighbor’s yard.
Yu Chujin was stunned for a moment, “No way. I’ve raised you for several years, and someone else has raised you for two months, and you’re going to run away with them? So you’re such a heartless white-eyed wolf dog, so fickle.”
The neighbor: “…”
A certain snake would’ve happily followed her home
