Chapter 64 p1: Spring
The black shadow that had flashed by in the bathroom made Yu Chujin instantly nervous.
Her first reaction was that a thief had broken into the house, and she was about to call the police.
She frantically took out her phone, but just as she was about to dial the police, she felt that something was wrong.
Listening to the continuous “splashing” of water in the bathroom, the person inside was clearly taking a bath.
A thief, running to someone else’s house to steal a bath. Was that reasonable?
Obviously not. To come to someone else’s house to steal things, not hiding well, but taking a bath so openly. The more she thought about it, the stranger it seemed.
She thought of a possibility. Could it be that Qingli had woken up?
Not too sure. To be on the safe side, Yu Chujin temporarily gave up the idea of calling the police. She tiptoed and went to the room to check first.
She pushed open the bedroom door, walked to the bed, and lifted the quilt.
The small snake that had been hibernating in the quilt was gone, leaving only the imprint of a coil on the bedsheet.
Yu Chujin was stunned for half a second, then her eyes lit up. She immediately turned around and jogged towards the bathroom.
She stopped at the door and calmed her excited mood.
“Knock, knock.”
She gently knocked on the bathroom door twice.
“Snake, you’re awake. I thought you wouldn’t wake up until spring. Is your hibernation time so short?”
The sound of water inside did not stop, but there was no response.
Yu Chujin frowned in confusion and knocked on the door again, “Why aren’t you talking?”
There was still no response from inside, but the sound of water was still continuing, splashing non-stop.
Yu Chujin waited at the door for a moment, pacing back and forth. In the end, she couldn’t hold it in anymore, “If you don’t talk, I’m pushing the door open.”
After waiting for a while longer, she had no choice but to press the doorknob and gently push the door open.
She poked her head in and looked inside.
When she saw the scene inside clearly, Yu Chujin’s expression froze slightly.
The bathroom was filled with mist. The shower was splashing water, and under the shower, a small snake was twisting and turning.
Its small claws were on its body, scrubbing here and there.
As the small snake was scrubbing, its eyes were closed. It was very sleepy, but it was still insisting on taking a bath.
“You…” Yu Chujin said, “What are you doing, you snake?”
The small snake’s half-closed eyes abruptly opened when it heard her voice.
“It’s Yu Chujin!” the small snake was surprised.
“Yes, it’s Yu Chujin. You were hibernating so well. Why did you run to the bathroom?” Yu Chujin was puzzled.
“I’m taking a bath. I’m a clean snake. No, a clean person. Yu Chujin doesn’t like people who are not clean. I have to take a bath,” the small snake spoke in human language, explaining seriously.
Yu Chujin was stunned, her feelings complicated for a moment, “Are my words so important? You even woke up from hibernation to take a bath.”
The small snake did not answer, but instead changed the subject, “You’re peeking!”
Yu Chujin was dazed, “Huh? What peeking?”
The small snake snorted and raised its small head, “You’re peeking. You said before that you can’t peek when someone is taking a bath. Every time I looked, you would scold me. Then why are you peeking yourself? Peeking at me taking a bath!”
Yu Chujin was choked and said with a smile, “Who’s peeking at you? I was calling you, and you didn’t answer. I was just worried, so I opened the door to check, okay?”
The small snake didn’t care and snorted again, “If you’re peeking, then you’re peeking. You won’t even admit it. I’m not as petty as you. You can peek at me.”
Yu Chujin: “…”
“Then you’re really generous,” Yu Chujin gritted her teeth.
“Of course not. Only you can peek,” the small snake blinked its eyes.
Blinking with only one eye. A snake making such an expression was very strange.
“Did you get water in your eye or something? Don’t tell me you’re winking… Alright, stop with the stupid actions. Hurry up and come out after you’re done washing.”
After saying that, she left the bathroom and closed the door.
Yu Chujin shook her head and smiled, mumbling in a low voice, “Peeking at you taking a bath? A small snake is taking a bath. What’s there to peek at?”
The sound of water in the bathroom was continuous and hadn’t stopped after half an hour.
It had been washing for quite a long time, but it seemed to have been washing for a little too long.
Yu Chujin walked over and knocked on the bathroom door, “Are you not done washing yet?”
Not getting a response, Yu Chujin could only push the door open again.
Only after pushing it open did she discover that this snake had actually fallen asleep under the shower, sleeping coiled in a ball under the water.
Yu Chujin’s eyes were full of helplessness. She walked over, turned off the shower, and picked up the small snake.
The small snake was still sleeping soundly. Even after being picked up, it showed no sign of waking up.
At first, Yu Chujin was very impolite and not gentle as she was holding her. After thinking for a moment, she changed her action and held her with both hands.
She found a dry towel, wiped the water from her body, then gently placed her back on the bed and covered her with the quilt.
“You’re quite a handful. You’re not even honest when you’re hibernating,” Yu Chujin sat by the bed and poked her small head with her finger.
The small cyan snake was coiled in a ball, nestled in the quilt, its breathing steady.
Yu Chujin looked down at her and looked at her for a long time. She didn’t know what was so good to keep looking at, but she just kept staring, not feeling bored even after half an hour.
It wasn’t until her stomach rumbled that she came back to her senses.
She looked out the window and found that the sky had already darkened.
She hadn’t eaten lunch or dinner. She touched her flat stomach and was indeed a little hungry.
She covered the small snake with the quilt and got up to go to the kitchen to get something to eat.
Just as she reached the door, a rustling sound came from the bed behind her.
She looked back and saw the small snake crawl out of the quilt, its face dazed.
“I forgot. I haven’t brushed my teeth yet. I can’t sleep without brushing my teeth. I have to be a clean person.”
The small snake’s eyes were not even open, and it was still mumbling, and even wanted to get up to brush its teeth.
Yu Chujin felt quite helpless, “Go to sleep. You don’t have to brush your teeth when you’re hibernating.”
The small snake: “Really? Wow, Yu Chujin, you’re so good. I don’t even have to brush my teeth. Wow, you love me so much. I love you too.”
After saying that, with a thump, it fell down and fell asleep on the spot.
Yu Chujin couldn’t help but laugh.
She turned back and covered her with the quilt again.
During the subsequent hibernation period, Qingli had had many such situations, suddenly getting up to take a bath and brush her teeth, or suddenly opening her eyes to see if she was still there.
Or, it was just to say things like “I like you” and “I love you.”
In short, the period of being awake would not last for more than ten minutes, and she would quickly fall into a deep sleep again.
Time passed day by day. As the Spring Festival was approaching, winter was about to end, but Qingli, who was in a deep sleep, showed no sign of waking up.
Yu Chujin was a little regretful. This was the first Spring Festival she had known Qingli. She had thought they could spend it together, but looking at the situation, it seemed a little difficult.
Did that mean that every Spring Festival in the future, they would not be able to spend it together? Because she had to hibernate at this time every year.
No, although she was not awake, she was by her side. How was that not a different kind of spending the Spring Festival together?
Thinking of this, Yu Chujin also figured it out and was not so regretful anymore.
On New Year’s Eve, the usually quiet villa community was, for a rare occasion, lively.
The sound of firecrackers, and the happy laughter of the neighbors’ family reunion. There was a lively atmosphere everywhere.
The liveliness outside and the quietness of Yu Chujin’s house formed a sharp contrast, like two extremes.
For this, Yu Chujin actually did not have too many feelings.
She was already used to it. At most, she would only be sad for a moment, but she would quickly recover.
Others had their Spring Festival, and she had her days. In fact, this day was not much different from any other day. She would continue to do what she had to do.
Yu Chujin was scrolling through her phone, looking at her Moments with a bored expression. When she came to one of them, her finger paused.
It was Yu Chujin’s mother, a post she had made a minute ago.
CEO Yu, who hadn’t posted a single thing in a year, had posted a family reunion photo on the Spring Festival.
Her husband, her child, and her, sitting together at the dinner table, in harmony.
Yu Chujin clicked on the photo, enlarged it, and then gave it a like.
And she commented, “No matter how busy you are, please block me. Otherwise, it will hurt my heart so much. To my dear mother.”
After commenting with a blank expression, she continued to scroll down her Moments. It was a coincidence. Her mother’s post was followed by her father’s.
This former couple really had a tacit understanding. They had posted at about the same time, and the photos were also similar.
His wife, his child, and his grandparents, sitting at the dinner table, a family, celebrating New Year’s Eve together.
Yu Chujin liked it again and commented with a similar sentence.
She had wanted to continue to look, but after scrolling through her phone a couple of times, she felt that it was tasteless. She threw her phone aside, leaned back on the sofa, and stared at the ceiling in a daze.
The living room was pitch black. She hadn’t even turned on the lights and was in the dark.
She could still vaguely hear the sound of fireworks outside. It was very lively, but this liveliness had nothing to do with her. She just felt… a little noisy.
The firecrackers were going off non-stop. How could she sleep tonight? She probably wouldn’t be able to.
She turned on the TV. The Spring Festival Gala was playing on the TV. The fluorescent light of the TV flickered, reflecting on her lonely face.
Da Huang was curled up at her feet, watching TV with her.
The small snake was coiled on the side. Yu Chujin had taken it out of the room and was forced to watch TV with her.
“Ding dong.”
The doorbell rang.
Da Huang was the first to run to the door, its tail wagging. Seeing its enthusiastic appearance, it could probably be guessed that the person who had rung the doorbell was probably the neighbor sister next door.
The reason Da Huang was so enthusiastic was because the neighbor sister had taken care of it for a long time. Even now, Da Huang would still jump into the next yard to play from time to time.
She opened the yard gate. The neighbor sister was wearing a gray sweater, looking gentle and quiet. She was holding a food container, “My parents and I made some dumplings. I brought some over for you to try. My cooking is quite average. Don’t mind it. It’s also for good luck.”
Yu Chujin gladly took it, “How could I mind? Thank you. I’ll be sure to enjoy it.”
The neighbor sister looked at the unlit house behind her and guessed that she was spending the New Year alone again this year. She was about to invite her.
But Yu Chujin interrupted her first, “This winter is colder than previous years. Sister, you should go back quickly. You’re not wearing much. Don’t catch a cold. I’m going back too. It’s too cold.”
The neighbor sister’s mouth opened, but seeing Yu Chujin’s stubborn look, she sighed. The words of inviting her to spend the New Year together were swallowed back and were not spoken again.
After seeing the neighbor sister off, Yu Chujin breathed a sigh of relief, took the food container, and returned to the house.
