Chapter 21:
When Mu Sixue asked with a hint of both reproach and amusement, Yan Qinghe let out a bewildered “Huh?” Her mind spun for a moment before she understood that she was asking if she was enjoying filming the bed scene with Ji Qianqian.
A dry laugh escaped her throat. “How could I?”
Mu Sixue let out a soft scoff and nonchalantly turned the silver ring on her middle finger. “Just teasing you.”
Yan Qinghe changed the subject. “I probably only have a few more scenes to go. Does Senior want to come and watch?”
Her eyes were clean and pure. Mu Sixue thought of how she was running around, acting in a role she wasn’t good at, all for her sake, and curved her lips. “Do you want me to come?”
A flash of lightning went through Yan Qinghe’s mind. She sensitively caught a very special meaning, like a cloud that, just as it was being kneaded into shape, was blown away by the wind into mist.
This time, Mu Sixue’s eyes were filled with a teasing, profound meaning as she said this. Yan Qinghe was at a loss for words. If a scene like yesterday’s were to happen again, could she act well in front of Mu Sixue?
She probably could. Fortunately, the next scene didn’t require any R-rated content. She simply told Mu Sixue the filming location.
The next scene was an on-location shoot by the Seine River, capturing a partial view of the riverbank. The plot had progressed to the point where Ling Han could no longer bear Su Qingru’s imprisonment. She seduced Su Qingru, luring her to bed and tormenting her until Su Qingru fell asleep exhausted in her arms.
Ling Han’s plan succeeded. Under the cover of a dark and windy night, when the guards were weak, she drugged all of them and escaped. She reached the shore of a boundless lake, only to be caught by Su Qingru, who had caught up with her.
Fei Qiankun had Ji Qianqian and Yan Qinghe run through their lines. Ji Qianqian was unusually quiet today.
On a huge white yacht, a woman in a sky-blue long dress and sunglasses was looking in their direction. Under a wide-brimmed hat, her face was more beautiful than a star’s. Her delicate chin was covered by a sun-protective mask, making her look mysterious, cold, and proud.
Before filming began, Fei Qiankun had been fussing over this woman, having someone hold a parasol for her and offering her drinks, all of which were politely refused.
“President Mu, it looks like it’s going to rain later. It’s better to be prepared,” Fei Qiankun said respectfully. Only then did the woman allow it.
It was Mu Sixue.
Ji Qianqian’s heart skipped a beat. She was here today too. Did Qinghe invite Mu Sixue, or did Mu Sixue come for Yan Qinghe?
The sound of the tide lapping against the shore, carrying with it bits and pieces of wave-tossed stones of various sizes, the sand glinting orange-gold in the sun. Ji Qianqian felt as if the depths of her heart were being rubbed by layers of stones and sand.
Was Mu Sixue that special to Qinghe?
She bit her red lip and, after a moment’s hesitation, took out her phone and sent a text message. Then she had her assistant put her phone away.
Yan Qinghe was delighted to find that her senior had really come. She tilted her head up and waved her arms happily at Mu Sixue. Fearing she wouldn’t be seen, she picked up Ling Han’s long sword and brandished it in a flourish in Mu Sixue’s direction.
Look at that fool! Ji Qianqian was furious. She was ignoring the great beauty beside her—her ex-girlfriend—and was so enthusiastic about an outsider senior who was hiding her face with a mask and a hat!
On Mu Sixue’s sunglasses, Yan Qinghe’s figure was condensed into a small shadow in the center. A bright curve appeared on Mu Sixue’s lips.
The sunlight today suddenly didn’t seem so glaring. The summer wind was gentle. Summer… her lips parted and closed softly, her expression unreadable.
The silver ring on her hand refracted circles of light in the sun.
She rarely came to the set. Since Summer wanted her to come, she would grant her wish.
After waving, Yan Qinghe suddenly felt the pressure around her drop. She was unusually sensitive to this. Who had offended the great Miss Ji today?
The dark cloud on Ji Qianqian’s face seemed to be a momentary illusion, because in the next moment, her arm was linked with Ji Qianqian’s.
“Qinghe, have you memorized your lines?” a sweet voice whispered in her ear.
Yan Qinghe nodded. In an instant, her cheek was marked by the warmth of lips. She was given a rose-scented kiss. “My Qinghe is so amazing!”
The script supervisor, sound recordist, cameraman, and other crew members were momentarily stunned.
Teacher Ji seemed to be unusually enthusiastic about this stand-in. Or had filming already begun?
Fei Qiankun turned a blind eye, pretending not to see. He laughed and said, “Teacher Ji is just rehearsing, getting a feel for it.”
No one paid him any mind, and no one cared much. All sorts of on-set relationships in the entertainment industry, such as “on-set husbands and wives,” were no longer a novelty.
It was just getting into character for the scene. If it continued after the scene, then it was worth gossiping about.
The script supervisor in a baseball cap ran to the front of the camera and clapped the slate. The camera crew focused on Yan and Ji. Action!
“So, all that deep affection you had for me was fake?” Su Qingru asked Ling Han with tears in her eyes. Behind her were the disciples of the Demon Palace who had caught up, holding bows and arrows, surrounding Ling Han.
“Hah! You stole my sect’s treasure map, lured me into the demonic path, and defiled my body. What true feelings do you expect me to have for you?” Ling Han’s eyes were crimson. She pointed her sword at Su Qingru, who was advancing step by step. “If you come any closer, I’ll kill you.”
“Do you hate me that much?” Su Qingru asked sorrowfully, still walking towards Ling Han. “If you never had any feelings for me, then right here, right now, take my life!”
As she spoke, she stepped forward, her chest moving towards the tip of the sword. A red stain spread on her robe.
The whistling of arrows trembled in the air. If Ling Han were to really thrust forward, she would be shot into a porcupine in the next moment.
The disciples of the Demon Palace were worried about their leader. Their wrists were tense, and beads of sweat formed on their foreheads. Then, they were forbidden to shoot. Su Qingru ordered them all to retreat.
“This is between me and Ling Han. I order you to return to the palace!”
The order was absolute. The disciples and followers retreated like a receding wave.
Now, only Ling Han and Su Qingru were left on the scene. The waves on the riverbank crashed against the rocks. The sound of thunder heralded that the sunny day was about to be torn apart by a curtain of dark clouds and heavy rain.
This scene was also within Fei Qiankun’s expectations. The weather forecast had predicted rain in fifteen minutes, but the rain was heavier than expected, accompanied by thunder. He waved his hand for the sound recordist to prepare.
Yan Qinghe’s heart trembled. Was Ji Qianqian for real? Although the sword in her hand was a fake made of silver plastic, if Ji Qianqian came at her so recklessly, she would really get hurt.
She couldn’t bear it, so she pulled her hand back half an inch. The more she did, the more Ji Qianqian leaned forward.
“Do you think I really don’t dare to kill you?” Ling Han asked coldly.
“You won’t. You love me,” Su Qingru replied softly. The whistling wind blew through their robes. As they grew closer, it felt as warm and real as the countless nights they had spent together.
“Come back with me, Ling Ling. I promise I’ll return the treasure map and won’t tie you up anymore,” Su Qingru said, her eyes full of tenderness, with no trace of the arrogant Demon Palace master.
But Ling Han only looked at her with cold eyes, her hand trembling. “I detest you. How could I go with you again?” Her tone was resolute, striking Su Qingru’s heart more directly than the loudest clap of thunder.
Facing the thunder that crashed against the rocks on the riverbank, Su Qingru held the hilt of the long sword, which was half-buried in her own body, and said with a trembling voice, “I love you. I’m willing to wait until the day you no longer hate me.”
As long as you’re willing to give me another chance to start over.
…
At that moment, Su Qingru’s face merged with Ji Qianqian’s. A silent pain tore at Yan Qinghe’s heart. Suddenly, memories of her past life came flooding back.
Ji Qianqian is crazy. Is it for the sake of realism? She had actually let the plastic sword pierce through her outer robe! A faint trace of blood could be seen seeping through.
Yan Qinghe’s heart tightened. Just as she was about to drop the long sword with a clang, the director called “cut”—
Her mind relaxed. Ji Qianqian seemed to still be immersed in the plot. Amidst the wind and rain, her face was pale and pitiful.
“Qianqian?” Yan Qinghe walked forward slowly. Qianqian, are you okay?
“Qinghe—” Ji Qianqian was on the verge of tears. Just as they were about to get close, she swayed and was about to lean into Yan Qinghe’s arms.
Suddenly, someone shouted in panic, “Oh no, someone fell into the water!”
“What happened? So careless. Who is it?” Fei Qiankun was both anxious and angry. The safety measures by the Seine River were very good. How could someone fall into the water?
“It’s President Mu!”
With a crash, Fei Qiankun nearly dropped the camera. Yan Qinghe’s heart sank. Her feet felt as if they were nailed to the ground, stopping her from moving towards Ji Qianqian. With one hand, she started to take off her shoes, and with the other, she pulled off her heavy costume.
Her movements were swift, but prone to error in her haste.
The costume was too complicated. Yan Qinghe’s veins bulged. She grabbed the long sword and, with a rip, cut open the sash and belt, revealing the lean waist wrapped in a white shirt. Ji Qianqian opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, Yan Qinghe, like a dumpling falling into water, plunged into the river with a splash.
Ji Qianqian: ????
Her eyes were dark. She remembered that although the Qinghe of her past life could swim, she was very resistant to entering the water. Even for this water scene, they were originally supposed to be standing and talking in the shallow part of the river.
Because of Qinghe’s resistance, the director had changed it to be filmed by the water, and Qinghe’s pants hadn’t even gotten wet.
The pain in her chest from being stabbed by the sword was momentarily forgotten. The assistant rushed over with disinfectant and other medical supplies, but Ji Qianqian acted as if she didn’t see them.
It was hard to say if she was angry or worried. The assistant watched as Ji Qianqian, fuming, took off her costume and threw it into her hands.
She tied her long hair into a ponytail, revealing her slender neck. In a white t-shirt and short denim pants, she dove into the water like a graceful mermaid, making only a small splash.
The assistant opened her mouth, wanting to shout “Help…” but stopped herself. In her mind, her boss’s resume had a line that, besides being a principal dancer, she had also been on the H City swimming team and had won an award for the butterfly stroke.
As expected, Ji Qianqian swam extremely fast, gradually matching the pace of the person in front of her.
Ji Qianqian held her breath. Is someone trying to be a hero and save the damsel in distress? In your dreams!
This is too chaotic
