Chapter 16: The Drive Shot
The spell I cast was “Fireball.”
Fireball is a respectable offensive spell, but it’s classified as a low-level one. It’s the first spell that aspiring mages should learn. It’s the most basic of basic spells, but that doesn’t mean it’s weak.
It’s so profound that a great mage of old left behind the words, “Magic begins with Fireball and ends with Fireball.”
In fact, my Fireball is so powerful that I can do an impression of the Demon King, saying,
“…That was not ‘Inferno.’ That was ‘Fireball.'”
Its power is tremendous, and I can even create a fireball five meters in diameter.
However, the one I’m casting now isn’t focused on size. In fact, it’s smaller than usual.
It’s not that powerful either.
Instead, I’m about to drastically increase its quality.
I toy with the newly created fireball with my feet.
Hup, hup, ha! I kick it up with my feet. In other words, I’m juggling it.
If Fina weren’t here, I could use my chest and head, but I skillfully control it with just my feet.
I heard there’s a game called “Kemari” in a distant island nation to the east, and this technique was inspired by it.
As I kick the fireball, I force air into it, increasing its combustion power, and then finally, I kick it up with all my might to increase its power even more.
Incidentally, in another world, this final kick is apparently called a “shot.”
That alone is a bit plain, so I think I’ll add some cool letters to the beginning.
The special move I unleashed while thinking about that was,
“Drive Shot!”
It consumed a considerable amount of stamina, but I didn’t end up thinking, “Tsk, not enough guts.”
By the way, a Drive Shot is a kicking technique that adds a vertical spin, causing it to follow a “V”-shaped trajectory. It’s a technique where the fireball drops sharply in mid-air, but its power is immense.
The fireball, its combustion power and force increased by the vertical spin, scores a direct hit on the Giant Earthworm.
A mass of heat reaching several thousand degrees, the fireball, now with added piercing power, bores through the Giant Earthworm’s massive body.
A large hole instantly opens up in the Giant Earthworm’s body, and a few seconds later, it’s engulfed in flames.
The fact that an earthworm, a creature made mostly of water, is burning is quite something, but that is the power of the special move “Drive Shot.”
Fina, sensing that the Giant Earthworm was dead, looked at the burning creature and said,
“My husband is a genius.”
“I’m not that great. Well, maybe I’ll start a Kemari show after our honeymoon is over.”
After that exchange, I placed my wife, who was gradually regaining her composure, back on the ground.
She seemed reluctant to let go of the princess carry, but if I kept holding her like that, we’d never reach the deepest part of the dungeon.
I was very grateful that she was sensitive enough to read the mood.
I really do think my wife is the best.
