Chapter 28p1: The Young Miss in the Wheelchair 28
In the conference room, Teacher Wu had been waiting for a long time. Hearing the faint sound of conversation outside, she looked up.
It was already time for evening self-study. There was no one in the school, and the atmosphere was quiet, the treetops swaying in the wind.
The conference room door was not closed but wide open. Looking up, she could see two figures walking towards her against the night wind.
The older woman was in a wheelchair, her face turned to the side as she talked to the person beside her.
The temperature had dropped recently. She was wearing a coat over her long-sleeved shirt, and a platinum sweater chain adorned her white turtleneck, breaking the monotony with a simple and elegant touch.
The young girl beside her, not yet fully grown and with a slightly slender figure, had her head slightly bowed as she spoke to the person beside her.
The atmosphere between the two was harmonious. Although Cheng Zhishu felt a bit guilty and embarrassed, she didn’t feel ashamed.
Originally, she had thought that Miss Xi was very young and would be at a loss as to how to handle these things, either acting radically or laxly, but that was not the case.
And Teacher Wu had not expected her to be so concerned about Cheng Zhishu’s education.
She would come to the school in person every time to inquire, which was more responsible than most parents.
Soon, the two arrived at the office.
Xi Congshuang seemed calmer than expected and also saw the love letter.
Teacher Wu poured two cups of hot water, one for Xi Congshuang and one for Cheng Zhishu, and began to talk about the issue of puppy love.
Cheng Zhishu stood to the side, obediently taking the scolding. She thought to herself that she must have been possessed to be reading a love letter at a time when the homeroom teacher could appear at any moment, and a love letter that she would have never read before, but would have put directly into the shredder.
Sigh, the heavens are out to get me.
Forgive her. Some of these love letters were signed, some were not, and they were all mixed up and hard to distinguish.
In the past, she would have returned them one by one according to the clues, but the situation had only gotten worse because of it.
Love letters that couldn’t fit were appearing in all sorts of corners. Once, one fell out of her folder in class and was almost seen by the math teacher. The situation was so dangerous that it almost scared the soul out of Cheng Zhishu.
Cheng Zhishu was at a loss about this. It was Shangguan Yin who told her that because she had personally returned the love letters, it had no effect on the senders at all, and that she shouldn’t return them.
Cheng Zhishu, who still didn’t understand the complexities of the human heart, asked in confusion why.
Because someone had said that when their love letter was returned, it felt like being given a love letter in person by the top student in the school. Not only was it not sad, but it was also subtly satisfying.
“…”
Cheng Zhishu had never thought of such a way of solving the problem. While shocked that the big city was indeed full of broad-minded people, she silently put them in the shredder.
Only then did the situation ease, and she no longer had to worry about finding a love letter falling out of a book she opened.
But she hadn’t expected that even the wisest could make a mistake. She had still died at the hands of a love letter.
She was caught red-handed reading a love letter by her homeroom teacher, and her guardian was even called.
What could she have done wrong?
She just wanted a chance at a second marriage.
Teacher Wu really treated Cheng Zhishu as her prized student and discussed this issue with her earnestly. “Actually, I know that this issue can’t be blamed on Zhishu. She’s still young, and her understanding of life may not be that clear yet.”
“Indeed.” Xi Congshuang was serious, as if she were following the teacher’s train of thought and thinking seriously.
Teacher Wu: “And now that she’s in her final year of high school, if she continues to maintain her current grades, it won’t be difficult for her to get into A University. This is for Zhishu’s future…”
Xi Congshuang: “You’re right.”
Her gaze fell on the paper on the desk. In front of the teacher, she took the love letter and read it carefully.
Teacher Wu always had a good impression of cooperative parents and couldn’t help but say more, completely unaware that Cheng Zhishu on the side wished she could find a crack in the conference room, bury herself in it, and never appear again.
Xi Congshuang said absentmindedly, “I agree with the teacher’s view.”
As she spoke, she looked down at the paper.
The handwriting on the paper was neat and clear, and the words were not explicit, but as beautiful as a poem, conveying feelings through ink.
The light-colored letter paper had a faint floral scent, easily reminding one of a fresh and beautiful young girl.
Innocent, ignorant, yet direct.
After reading it, she casually placed the love letter back on the desk. Her expression was unreadable, but Cheng Zhishu couldn’t help but feel nervous.
After seeing it, does she have no other thoughts?
Or is it the result that Cheng Zhishu least wanted to see? Xi Congshuang really doesn’t have a single bit of a sense of crisis and completely sees her as a junior.
Cheng Zhishu’s heart kept sinking.
Teacher Wu didn’t notice the undercurrents in the conference room. She was still speaking earnestly, and finally hoped that Xi Congshuang would have a good talk with Cheng Zhishu after she went back, and not to be too nervous.
Xi Congshuang stared as Teacher Wu took away the love letter and smiled. “I will.”
After leaving the conference room, Xi Congshuang didn’t let Cheng Zhishu push her and maneuvered the wheelchair out herself.
After leaving the conference room, there was no one around. Xi Congshuang said, “You don’t have to see me off. You can go back to class first.”
It wasn’t time for school to be over yet. Cheng Zhishu still had one class left.
Cheng Zhishu’s hands, hanging by her sides, clenched into fists. She lowered her head and apologized, “I’m sorry, Sister. I’ve disappointed you.”
She still remembered that the reason Xi Congshuang had decided to take her from Wencan and take her in was to sponsor her.
Now, she was using Xi Congshuang’s sponsorship to mess around at school, having her guardian called several times.
It seemed that she had failed in everything she did.
Xi Congshuang’s palm rested on the armrest of her wheelchair. A few seconds later, she said amidst the sound of students reading aloud upstairs, “Go to class. I’ll wait for you outside after school.”
With that, she started her wheelchair and left. Not far away, Li Mi took Xi Congshuang and helped her into the car.
Cheng Zhishu returned to the classroom, sat down, and buried her head in her work. Shangguan Yin had wanted to talk to her, but seeing that she was in a bad mood, she kept quiet and also buried her head in her studies.
After school, Cheng Zhishu packed her schoolbag and walked out silently with the crowd.
The car was still parked in the familiar place, responsible for picking her up after evening self-study, but this time… Xi Congshuang was also there.
Cheng Zhishu took a deep breath, adjusted her expression, and walked forward, pulling open the car door.
The dome light in the car was on. The familiar slender figure was sitting on one side and looked up at the sound.
Cheng Zhishu’s back stiffened, and she hesitated a little.
Xi Congshuang said, “It’s cold outside. Get in the car first.”
Without much hesitation, Cheng Zhishu got into the car, shutting the autumn wind out. The dome light in the car also dimmed.
Li Mi started the car and drove in the designated direction.
On the way, Cheng Zhishu had been hesitating. She desperately wanted to restore her image in Xi Congshuang’s heart, even if it was just as the “sister” Shangguan Yin had mentioned.
Cheng Zhishu really couldn’t stand returning to a distant and unfamiliar relationship.
Xi Congshuang broke the silence before her. “You’ve been avoiding me recently. Is it because of that love letter?”
Cheng Zhishu was at a loss for words and denied it without thinking. “No.”
Why is everyone talking about that love letter? It’s nothing. I don’t even know who wrote it.
Xi Congshuang asked, “If not, then what is it?”
“Although someone told me that I should give you appropriate private space, this is the first time for me, and I’m not sure how to grasp this degree. I’m also partly responsible for what happened today. I shouldn’t blame you.”
“…”
Not to mention Cheng Zhishu, even Li Mi, who was driving, felt complicated and didn’t know what to think.
Xi Congshuang looked ahead. “On this matter, I actually agree with Teacher Wu’s view. I also think it’s too early for you. If you want to start a relationship, it shouldn’t be now.”
The description from the system only said that the heroine was alone until she was imprisoned, but she didn’t think that the current Cheng Zhishu should be as loveless as described. There was no longer a domineering young miss tormenting her and squeezing her living space.
In a stable life, it was only human to have a need for affection.
That’s what she thought.
Xi Congshuang said, “You don’t have to feel sorry for this. I won’t stop sponsoring you. I can sign a contract with you. This is not a threat.”
Why are you being so serious at a time like this? Cheng Zhishu interrupted her, “What about you?”
Xi Congshuang asked, “What?”
Feeling that something was wrong and that they were about to argue, Li Mi quickly raised the partition.
A driver with excellent professional qualities should be able to distinguish which gossip to listen to and which not to.
However, she was still a step too slow. The stubborn question drifted through the gap.
“Isn’t Sister considering getting married?” Cheng Zhishu asked, trying to sound strong. “Why are you asking me why I’m avoiding you? Because this is a very complicated question. Do you really want to hear the answer?”
In fact, Cheng Zhishu regretted it as soon as she said it. She was too impulsive. Once some words were spoken, there was no going back.
A thousand thoughts flashed through her mind. Xi Congshuang caught the main point and frowned. “Who told you I was getting married?”
Cheng Zhishu was short of breath and turned her head to look out the window, but met Xi Congshuang’s gaze. “No one told me. I heard it myself.”
For the first time, Xi Congshuang had the feeling of being so angry that she laughed. “Just because of this, you’ve been avoiding me?”
“…”
Cheng Zhishu was silent. Cheng Zhishu did not deny it.
She knew what she should do and what she shouldn’t do, but her tears and feelings were just so disappointing.
Xi Congshuang reached out and grabbed her shoulder, turning her around. A soft, cool handkerchief wiped away the tear that had overflowed from the corner of her eye. She gently but firmly lifted her face and looked into her tea-colored eyes.
The heroine the system said was so powerful, who knew she was a stubborn crybaby who couldn’t hold back a single tear.
But it made sense. Being neglected by her family since she was young, she would only care more.
Although it didn’t show on the surface, once a close person established an intimate relationship that excluded her, she would be as sad as an abandoned little animal.
Xi Congshuang held her face with both hands, her thumbs wiping away the tear stains from the corners of her eyes, and promised, “I won’t get married. I won’t marry anyone. You don’t have to avoid me.”
“…”
Cheng Zhishu almost wanted to cry out loud. Why did it sound like she didn’t even have a chance at a second marriage?
