Chapter 157: I’ll Support You By Handing Out Flyers 2 (1)
After a brief pause, the gray shadow’s eyes lit up with excitement: “You finally admit it!”
Tao Ning calmly took a few steps back: “Who would admit to seeing a ghost lurking in their house and constantly asking if they can be seen?”
According to modern law, this was like a burglar asking the homeowner if they could be seen, grounds for arrest.
Whether the original host saw it or not, a normal person wouldn’t admit it.
Actually, she hadn’t. The constant aches, the oppressive gloom, she had attributed it to lack of sleep and stress.
Who would have thought a ghost was squatting in her house?
The gray shadow’s hoarse voice was tinged with grievance: “I was just lonely, after all these years, wandering around, with no one to talk to.”
Tao Ning offered a suggestion: “You could talk to your own kind.”
The gray shadow sounded even more aggrieved: “They can’t even remember how they died, just moaning and wandering around like idiots, I don’t want to talk to them.”
“…” Tao Ning’s expression turned subtle, and she pointed at the ghost’s body, half inside the closet, half outside: “Are you sure you want to continue this conversation in this position?”
The gray shadow lunged forward, almost bumping into Tao Ning, then quickly retreated: “It was an accident.”
Tao Ning discreetly moved away, walking towards the bedroom: “I know it wasn’t intentional, I’m going to change now, please wait outside.”
She was calm and composed, like surveying her own territory, which it was, and her lack of screaming and frantic phone calls to have the ghost exorcised was already beyond the gray shadow’s expectations.
The ghost actually looked a bit embarrassed, retreating through the doorway.
“Okay.”
The figure disappeared behind the door, and Tao Ning quickly changed, grabbing her phone and bag, and headed out, sipping her coffee.
“Wait, wait.” The gray shadow followed, keeping to the shadows, avoiding the sunlight. “You’re leaving already?”
Not even going to comment on the ghost living in your house?
When did she become so bold? Wasn’t she just drowning her sorrows in alcohol and crying in front of the mirror?
Tao Ning stopped, turning around, puzzled: “Say what?”
She glanced at her phone, her brows furrowing: “I’m late, I have to go to work. How am I supposed to pay rent, eat, and maintain my extravagant lifestyle if I don’t work?”
The gray shadow stared at her, dumbfounded: “…You need to work? Aren’t you a rich heiress?”
Tao Ning sighed: “That was just a persona, I was hoping to find a rich lady in this city and become her mistress, but I’m not skilled enough, no one likes me. Actually, my credit cards are maxed out, and if I don’t pay the rent soon, I’ll be evicted.”
Gray shadow: “…”
Looking so glamorous, but actually just another poor ghost, like me. I’m a real ghost, she’s a broke ghost.
Looking at the speechless gray shadow, Tao Ning thought, As expected.
The ghost hadn’t been here long, and the original host, unaware of its presence, often left early and returned late, so it assumed she was a carefree heiress.
Tao Ning: “I’m leaving, we’ll talk when I get back tonight.”
Don’t stop a worker from going to work, deducting her pay would make her angrier than a ghost.
Tao Ning’s matter-of-fact tone confused the gray shadow, who just stood there: “Then… then go ahead.”
The door clicked shut.
The gray shadow, left alone in the apartment, its resentment growing, almost consuming the entire space, muttered hoarsely, “She makes a good point… she probably wouldn’t lie to me…”
Tao Ning hurried to the elevator, heading down to the parking garage on the second basement level.
The occupancy rate of this building wasn’t high, no one lived above or below her, so it was better to leave quickly.
If the ghost decided to cause trouble, she could only pray for an exorcist to deal with it.
Finding her car, she walked around it, checking inside as well, then, finding nothing unusual, started the engine and drove out.
Leaving the garage, it was 1:00 PM, the sunlight bright and dazzling.
A stark contrast to the gloomy sky she had seen from upstairs, the sun outside hot enough to fry an egg, while the apartment felt like a damp, suffocating blanket.
Tao Ning retrieved her sunglasses from the glove compartment, put them on, and drove towards the address Song Yanshu had sent her.
The address led to a large amusement park, owned by Song Yanshu’s family. Taking advantage of her shamelessness, after much pestering, Song Yanshu had been given a vacant storefront and opened an escape room.
This project had been conceived years ago, when Song Yanshu and the original host were trying to learn how to smoke in secret, the first project launched by her older sister after returning from studying abroad.
Over the years, it had become a popular tourist attraction.
“Beep, verification successful, please proceed.”
Tao Ning showed her ID card and drove into the park. It was a weekend, and the park was even more crowded than usual.
Young people were the majority, posing for photos in colorful clothes, a few elderly people strolling leisurely, and groups of young women sitting by the flowerbeds, editing photos.
She avoided looking at the couples feeding each other cotton candy, it was bad for a widow’s mood.
Tao Ning took a deep breath, the lively and cheerful atmosphere comforting.
She was observing others, unaware that many were also observing her.
Standing there in the shadows, tall and slender, she wore a sleeveless top and light-colored pants, a cool and refreshing contrast to the summer heat.
This was the most ordinary outfit Tao Ning could find in her closet.
It was filled with leather jackets, shorts, and boots, stylish but not exactly suitable for summer temperatures.
“Where was the address again?”
Tao Ning was looking down at her phone, trying to find her way, when hurried footsteps approached. She turned around just as a hand reached out to tap her shoulder.
“I thought it was you from afar, what are you doing standing here?” The girl, whose wrist Tao Ning had grabbed, wasn’t angry, retracting her hand casually.
Tao Ning removed her sunglasses, recognizing the person: “I was trying to find your store, I don’t come here often, I’m a bit lost.”
Song Yanshu, as her name suggested, was beautiful, her makeup impeccable.
Her long, black hair reached her waist, her bangs covering her eyebrows, and to avoid looking too dull, she had parted them slightly, revealing one eyebrow, a small mole drawn on the tip of her nose.
“I see, that’s why I’m here to pick you up.” Song Yanshu, hearing this, understood completely. The amusement park was indeed large, divided into several sections, and first-time visitors often got lost.
Seeing Tao Ning’s appraising gaze, she smiled brightly: “I got a haircut yesterday and dyed my hair black, do you like it?”
“It looks good.” Tao Ning then asked, “Your junior likes this style?”
Song Yanshu snapped her fingers: “Bingo! Correct.”
They had both graduated from university long ago. The “junior” she mentioned was someone she had met recently at a party, love at first sight, and after some inquiries, she learned they were from the same university.
Song Yanshu often fell in love at first sight, her feelings intense, and she quickly approached the other girl, using her senior status.
After exchanging contact information and chatting for a while, she learned about her junior’s interests, even opening this new escape room for her.
She was completely smitten.
And Tao Ning was here because they were short-staffed.
Song Yanshu’s employee had bailed on her, so she had no choice but to recruit Tao Ning, a free agent.
Song Yanshu said, “Since you’re here, and the staff are busy, can you help me hand out flyers? You can even sit down while doing it, people will definitely take them from you.”
She pulled a stack of flyers from her backpack and handed them to Tao Ning.
Tao Ning’s hands felt heavy: “…Handing out flyers? At your family’s amusement park?”
Song Yanshu held a stack of black and red flyers, the smell of fresh ink in the air: “You know it’s my family’s.”
So she could do whatever she wanted.
Tao Ning thought, That’s true.
Tao Ning and Song Yanshu were like two peas in a pod, troublemakers who covered for each other, helping each other climb walls during school and copying each other’s apologies when caught.
Even after graduation, they remained close, among the few people Tao Ning could get along with, and in their parents’ eyes, they were a bad influence on each other, but harmless, so they let them be.
“This stack is all yours.” Song Yanshu pushed Tao Ning’s shoulder, sending her off like a Pokemon: “Go, Tao-chu!”
She waved at Tao Ning, pointing in another direction: “I’ll be over there, see you later, dinner’s on me!”
Tao Ning: “…”
I shouldn’t have come.
Putting her sunglasses back on, Tao Ning sat down in a shaded area and started handing out flyers.
With her striking appearance, she looked like a celebrity even in a burlap sack, like a refreshing bottle of water in the summer heat.
People readily took the flyers, asking about the escape room.
Some even came back with friends, asking for more flyers.
Tao Ning gave them to anyone who wanted one, Song Yanshu had printed plenty.
After taking the flyers, a few girls lingered: “Are you working here, Miss? Are there any discounts for VIP memberships?”
“Will you be playing an NPC? If I choose the hardest difficulty, can you please not scare me?”
“Can I hug the NPC if I get scared?”
Tao Ning: “…”
So this was Song Yanshu’s plan.
